I am not sure if it is even possible, but one of the things that always turns me off from using summons is their lack of scaling. Summon monster V might be great at level 9, passable at level 13, but it is a mere speedbump at 17.

That they don't scale with caster level makes their usefulness very limited due to poor AB at the very least, and certainly poor AC and HP compound that if they start taking hits. Summons are like the opposite of damage spells, having their best value the same level you get them, whereas damaging spells just get more powerful till they hit the cap.

I obviously don't know what these new summons will be like, but if they don't scale I think their value will dwindle significantly as one gains levels.

Sadly why wiz/sorc tend to be the weakest classes here, aside from some probably great gish builds and as buff support. Well, one of many reasons.

Wizards only tend to be weak here if you don't know what you are doing. Admittedly Carceri gives them some issues, but there's nothing stronger in the Abyss than a wizard, and wall of fire eats everything in Niflheim alive so easily that you can start grinding there almost as soon as you get that spell.

Well... and any place that prevents resting will kill em :P. No other class is as tied to the rest button as a mage. Caster mage that is.
And you're assuming a player knows alot about server mechanics and such to. A clueless newb is gonna quit in frustration. Equip a warrior, cleric or anything with enough stuff to put their AC in the low 40s and a decent weapon and you can snooze to lvl 20 easy. Dont even have to rest, unless a cleric need to rebuff.
Caster wizard literally runs out of weapons after a handful of mob groups.

\\ Oh well... mainly my personal frustrations... coupled with a high dose of depression.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for your hard work on this; the update looks awesome and I can't wait for it to go live. This + the demonologist class are the reason I decided to start playing on S:CoD. Can't wait to see what you do with the planar binding spells!

So... oddly enough, I've gotten almost no feedback on the new summons. Anybody have some experience using them in combat, in conjunction with the Demonologist class? I'm especially interested in feedback about the "role" summons in the mid-levels, like the stealther, ranger, and caster ones.

hmmm. Monodavic deva (lv 8 summon, good) tends to hang in combat and I have constantly to tell it to move or attack a new target. Im wondering if its getting stuck with using feats.

The celestials appear to be lacking sleep immunity ? summon 9 is at least.

Other then that they appear to work great if you have time to buff them.

Also. Im a bit disconcerted about gate summons and neutral characters as giving them evil creature I say effects rp in how another pc might view you.

Lucadia:
You could pretty much say the same thing about a TN character getting a good, or lawful, or chaotic gate as well. The issue here being, the only neutral creatures of comparable power are the rilmani, and they're unsummonable by canon. You do have to admit it's better than the "You get a balor! And you get a balor!" oprah-mechanic previous.

Yes, but rp wise theres going be instances of Neutral never using the Gate spell as they dont want be associated as being a evil person.

Neutral people can get along with evil or good, but they still prefer good allies and neighbors then they would evil.

They should get a drop down menu on the summon when they click on it, asking if they rather have the good or evil version .

You could also imagine my confusion with hellfire boss in Abyss walking around with a Marut (who spent most of its time attack her as a side note)
