I don't care who's the bad guy or good guy, rules are what counts. Everyone follows the same rules so that we have even ground even in conflict. Take PvP ^{(Some prefer "CvC", in RP server I believe they're one and the same)} less as means to an end and more as enhancement to back down IC actions, but do so with acknowledgement that you're still in a roleplay environment where story and emotes are in greater role than number crunching.

There's two parts in this...

Mechanical Aspect

If you wish to have game mechanical PvP conflict then also [u]always[/u] remember to use the player list to [u]set the participants hostile mechanically[/u] [sup](Obviously just the enemies, not your allies)[/sup]. This is so that your characters act in common ground, I know how tempting it is to just sling that bigbys forceful to a character that annoys you, but that's just being [i]"that guy"[/i]. Don't be [i]that guy[/i]. [/li]

Reaction Time Aspect

Other part is to make the pursuing of this course to have choice for the person to flight or fight in an adamantly clear fashion. Not only this, but also as in all roleplay give them time to react and emote their piece. Roleplaying is not a fast paced game, but an game of emotes and flavor. Receiving side... don't think you're an exception either to this. To continue with the previous example... In this case a mage does not simply whip out a spell, they cast it. Casting takes time, if you're using a scroll? Using it takes time. If you want to initiate the combat IC remain IC all the way and make it obvious. [/li]

As last line of thoughts, power and capability to defeat someone is one thing. Capability to respect another player, their efforts and inclusion to roleplay is another. I recently made a post about my opinions upon motivation that I didn't reveal in public, where I mentioned that if my capability to participate RP is directly in line of requiring certain statistics I know it's what I will pursue... but I also comment why should I be required to reach level X or gain feat Y to be able to roleplay? And that I feel is weakness in DnD, but even more so DnD turned into a multiplayer. It's the mentality of competitiveness and capability to stand in equal or superior grounds as to have the autonomy of choosing ones actions, I feel a game shouldn't require that.

I know for a fact that there's always a few that will argue "But I'm higher level^{\more powerful} so that has to mean something!" to counter that... I want to RP with you, why do you want to limit my capability to do so?

SCoD is not a very PvP hospitable environment, and I think it's a good time to remind that we do not condone PvP much, at one point it even said in our rules that 'there are servers orientated to PvP, SCoD is not one of them'. That philosophy never changed, we merely reserved space for more technical approach. Our rules have their strengths in some parts, but also their own weaknesses. I've been challenged many times over "should change this and should change that" about the PvP rules, mind you there's some good and bad ideas floating around about it. However one thing all rules tend to forget is the simplest thing: Only way conflict between players work is if both sides are reasonable... and most of the times both sides think they are, and it's quite likely neither of them are.

Those of you whom enjoy creating strong builds and look for trouble among others, you know who you are, and I also know who you are. Let me tell you this; it's never a good idea to try to pressure others into conflict with the disguise of "playing evil character".

Also anyone who tries to use the current PvP rules to shove people away from their house, I'm just going to tell them to get out themselves and stop trying to abuse the rules to make others lives more annoying. So please, don't try to be smart about that. :P



That said, and I say this because I was harsh on some of the players there, by intent. We do encourage people to occasionally explore things out of their comfort zones, but do so in a way that satisfies both sides, and try not to only pick methods where you are superior. Roleplaying is a mutual narrative, not a contest, try not to make it a contest either.

And if things don't improve we could always temporarily deactivate pvp on the server, like we temporarily did with sleight of hand (currently still deactivated).
