For those of us that use Discord, or want an alternative to IRC, I've set up a server for folks to use.
You can access the server via <old, refer to the link on top of the page>
For those of you not familiar, Discord is a fairly recent chat/voice client designed particularly for gamers. It's not perfect, but it does have a lot of handy features.
You don't need to install anything to run it - it works straight from the browser. However, since this is a public channel, I have set a level of verification - you need to have a properly registered account to join.
The idea of using Discord is to give players somewhere to chat freely without interrupting ingame happenings too much. It is not intended to replace the IRC channel - this is still the place to go for tech support and other such stuff.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or on Discord! Also, if someone could sticky this if it becomes popular enough, that would be great.
Scod Discord Server

For those of us wondering what happened with the admins and DMs leaving the Discord server, basically what happened is I found an admin abusing their privileges and changing things that should not be changed, such as removing EM access from the #dm_discussion channel, which is for events, along with a number of other changes which could cause problems in the Discord server. "EMs have no power", to quote a few staff members. Which is totally false: EMs have access to the DM client and thereby have the ability to do anything the DM client allows them to do - they might be under scrutiny if they make a wrong move, but the capability is still there. There were also complaints about EMs having their own group, but it's there for a reason - so players know who is online in case they need help ingame.
I quote "Then it cannot be endorsed by the current staff, If it is not subject to the same rules and such as our other forums of communication.". Discord is not a forum. It is active, real time chat. It needs much more moderation than a forum, and thus I have enabled EMs some moderation abilities (because I trust them). I told her as much. I never asked for this Discord to be 'endorsed'. It is a player-based affair, and by removing their presence from the Discord, all the staff have succeeded in doing is distancing themselves from the playerbase that actually keeps the server alive.
Any DMs/Admins wishing to return to the Discord will be welcome to, and I will give them equivalent rankings on the Discord as they have on SCoD (as I have been doing from the beginning) as a sign of respect; but until an admin that I trust decides to take over this Discord server, it is under my jurisdiction and my word is final when it comes to judgements.
In the meantime, if you want to invite players to the Discord chat, please feel free to do so using the link at the beginning of this thread.

Abusing? It sounds like that was to be a DM discussion channel, and so EMs shouldn't have had access to it. EMs are not DMs. : x

EMs need to discuss events too. I even put that in the channel description.

To be fair, we had more of a presence than most DM's, answering Questions and Collaborating with people, the DM channel was used more as a Communication between us and Them, which in my experienced was very positive.Love_on_a_Wire,Mar 1 2017 wrote:???Neutral Zone,Mar 1 2017 wrote:For those of us wondering what happened with the admins and DMs leaving the Discord server, basically what happened is I found Ariella abusing her admin privileges and changing things that should not be changed, such as removing EM access from the #dm_discussion channel....

I have literally ZERO info on what happened on discord, period!
But dosent this sorta qualify for "naming and shaming", mate?
Correct me if Im wrong(really, please do as I'm basically just reading what is written in a public channel), but shouldn't something like this have been brought up in an admin-only channel? To sort things out in private before naming names and such in public?! Might just be me not realising anything though...

Maybe. But I don't like hiding information unless it's absolutely necessary.
I'm open to changing the settings on my server, but it needs to be discussed, not arbitrarily changed at will, otherwise it's going to keep changing all the time as people keep deciding X and not Y.
Edit: At the suggestion of others, I have changed the post.

Actually these changes had been made to address some concerns by the DM team. Believe it or not i don't actually make the choices i just enforce the majority. Quite frankly before the issue i was pushing for a very different outcome. These changes has been made under the assumption the admins had been given their permissions to maintain the chat based on the rules and expectations established with the SCOD server. Now its true we did not ask you to hand over the server, because i thought it was your idea you deserved the credit, And that you would maintain the staff decision.
Permissions had been changed to allow us to recruit new moderators to watch the chat, EMs had their permissions altered to match what they are here. Because to be very clear they are not staff and have never been. The alterations to the DM channel was so we could actually have DM chats in there.
However when the permissions got reverted it displayed that it was not a staff handled chat, But a player handled one. Which is fine i greatly encourage anything that builds on a community. That said we already get reports of abuse, spamming and harassment within discord. People expecting us to punish it, Because by being there with our fancy colored names and it being in the banner we had displayed it as part of Sigil, But we can't take responsibility for something we have no control over.
Now i fully encourage people to make use of discord so long as they understand it is not part of the server, It is not run by us and you will not find us there on any DM account. If you need to reach the staff there is IRC or the forum. If you have any questions or concerns about this i encourage you to pm me.
