We would prefer to keep factions as RP choices rather than mechanical ones.

Yup, we want people to join factions due to the philosophy... not because one is better for rogues, another makes for kick-ass bards or something. Before any argument of "no reason to" is put out, I'll ask you this... why do you join roleplaying server if not for taking roleplaying opportunities to improve your gaming experience? Or perhaps it is my thinking that is flawed.
