[<3 wrote:,Sep 19 2009, 02:54 PM] So, essentialy, it comes down to faking the more 'mundane' subraces with the ones NWN 2 provides, with DM consent to go ? Sounds fair and square to me.
Actually I play a "Half-Azer" (fire dwarf) myself, which is simply a shield dwarf with RDD levels. So yes, that sort of thing is fine, and I think we of the admin team are generally thankful when people play something interesting using the standard classes and races while avoiding special handling.

One caveat maybe: Please do not try to RP abilities you don't actually have by game mechanics.

Well, I do have to say I am little bit quilty when it comes down to that one there.

Because I usually type: "////*The vanishes by blending into the shadows* " - or something similar when turning on the stealth mode if there is someone to witness me do that.

The OOC slashes will dissappear eventually.

well you are fine to emote that you disappear into the shadows... however, the ingame mechanics decide if they still see you or not... so doing it without hips is about the same as someone going into a dark corner and hoping that they won't remember you're still in the room ;)

generally you can rp you are anything you want... within reason... I'd stay away from full blooded succubi for the reasons stated above though... we are still rather early in beta, and our release of more custom races isn't really finished... we hope to make some selectable too in future...

While I completly understand that sentiment, I yet have to ask ... Isn't that a bit inconsequent ? So, people are allowed to 'cheese' subraces but are not allowed to 'cheese' abilities ?
Personaly I don't like cheesing anything to be honest, rather having the same rules apply to everyone.
Because, by this example, someone could roll a gnome warlock and simply choose to run around in devil shape 24/7 pretending to be a Cornugon (IE, full-blooded Baatezu). Clearly that would be cheesing, no ? But in theory the player could argue he's just faking a subrace because the engine let's him assume that shape via an invocation in this case.

There will always be some inconsistency when you are only "approximating" abilities. In pen&paper games there's the DM to rule over what works and what doesn't, but on a PW that sort of total oversight is impossible. We are asking that you show some restraint and common sense (as much as that's possible when playing a magical creature in a surreal world). We also have rules against "godmoding" where you force others to react in a certain way and those take precedence over any RPed-only abilities you have decided your character possesses. That applies for example to the "pretend HIPS" mentioned earlier, my own char will not pretend he does not see the hiding guy if he does, in fact, still sense him (and be that only from passing the Listen/Spot check).

As for the halfling in cornugon shape, he can obviously claim IC that he is, in fact a real cornugon and not a shapechanged halfling. People (characters) don't have to believe it though, especially if they manage to kill him and he reverts to halfling shape in death.

I'd say you can feel free to roleplay lore backed up abilities as long as other players are fine with it in those very specific encounters you'd be using them, but also handled in manner that it makes sense in character.

Like in example using an spell that doesn't exist in game engine, but which might be used for RP... explosive rune/fire trap/speak with dead.. what not.

Or another example: using shackles/rope to tie people up...

Small things like that.

[<3 wrote:,Sep 19 2009, 05:29 PM] Deities: Are there more deities (Oerth, Dragonlance, monstrous ones ... ) scripted in, or are we restricted to the default NWN2 Forgotten Realms deities ? If yes, do these deities work properly with the Favored Soul class (fav. weapon etc.) ?
They should work properly with favored souls and yeah, we have plenty deities in different pantheons and mostly all more Planescape related deities should be added.

Oh and one thing to note of Obsidians Favored Soul bug... they get the martial/exotic/simple weapon feat normally incase they need it, but in levelling screen if you ever go "back" to earlier screen, they don't get it, so with favored soul first level it's better to just cancel and start all over incase you made mistake.

Yeah the game engine can handle those... but for say a dramatic *goes into the shadows and vanishes* followed with a log off, I think thats ok for a non-hipser too...

As long as you don't hide, are seen, and still claim they can't see you :P
