Why Is Telepathy So Bad?

A pure level 30 Psion can solo Carceri with Energy Wave, Ectoplasmic Shambler and Telekenetic Maneuver alone, and their buffs make them the tankiest pure caster around with 62-66 AC, 50% concealment and crit immunity. An Illithid Mentalist gives up some CL and has a not-great discipline, but in return enjoys truly ludicrous SR. Psions, currently, are extremely tanky sorcerers that are worse in PvP but better in PvE.

It's not a Psion issue that if you try to target saves on Sigil, you're gonna have a bad time, it's a pretty universal caster issue. : x

That's not so much the point as I don't even get a chance, as a Telepath.

Yeah.... but you will also have some people that say any psion can solo everything with nothing but a rusty spoon.
wrote:No, he basically copy-pasted the actual Psion spells from PnP into the game, which, just does not work well at all. In PnP Psions are plenty powerful (17 HD is HUGE in PnP, and more than enough) and insta death spells are taken pretty seriously when having a psion with level 7 powers would be a big deal. And the damage spells just aren't tuned well for NWN2, where you get full HP.
Not quite, some things are copy pasted, I think like that 9th level death spell power that required creatures are under 30 hp or something is humorously copy pasted when everything has tons more hp than pnp.

Other things are either custom or poor implementations. There's one Psion concentration power which requires the concentration mechanic same as black blade of disaster to keep doing damage. Instead it says it just does plain damage, so it's 9d6 for a level 5 power.

So it went from one of kineticists best exclusive powers to a very weak one skipped by almost everyone.

That's also another point, disciplines don't have their exclusive powers locked in. But they also can't buy another discipline's exclusive power for a feat.

You can see other changes where "true sight psionic" I think was changed and is now exclusive to seer where it wasn't originally.

So safe to say lots of changes.

The issue is saves don't really work well for casters, psion has less DC so it works even worse. The custom made power impale is popular because it does 10d6 regardless of save. Telepathy has further problems that almost all powers rely on mind affecting and NWN2 treats that descriptor like trash.

You can check the other builder/tester forum there was a thread for psion bugs and I tried to catalogue and test most of them. If you poke around you will find most disciplines don't have it perfect either.

I've played a Shaper caster, it had it's issues, but it was nowhere near as bad as this. I don't mean "Telepathy powers suck, I don't like them" I mean "Telepathy powers suck, they're useless" I've just been using Impale and Recall Death, because they're the only spells that actually do anything, even though I have no focuses in them.
