One more addition. Cleric, SD, monk... these aren't the only classes being used in dip builds.
Fighter - armor/weapon profs, feats.
Swash - insightful strike.
Rogue - skills and skill access.
Any caster - why need umd for scrolls or wands?
Warlock - skill access, hideous blow (Even if it's only 1d6, it's essentially a free weapon enchantment), cha to saves.
Paladin - cha to saves.

One thing to point out is that Players won't regulate themselves. If they did, powerbuilds wouldn't be so prevalent.

Also, I think the intent is that DMs won't have to regulate it. If you make a script that, in Character Creation, recognizes you already picked Good as your 1st Domain, then you won't be picking something silly like Evil or Diabolic or Demonic or Entropy due to the same script.

Well, I selfishly re-opened this because I still wanted to elaborate on the points presented as well Mr. O :P

It should be said that the focus of these balancing points is not actually... power-building... maybe the gish-busting idea. But to make pure classes feel more useful in some ways? to bring melee up towards caster at an end-game level for the server? Other ideas? suggestions? I'll be getting back to each point individually and dissecting them. Dissection is so fun...

Edit: I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt they had something more to say on these specific points of balance. There is this - Say your peace on one of the points presented, then move on. This is for feedback, not flaming other's opinions.

Nah we don't. These changes seem.. just unnecessary..

Trying ta police character bulding ta promote RP seems like it would only be worthwhile if there was ah lack ah RP happenin on tha server. Ah see RP all ova tha place any time ah login. If ever folks look around an notice ah server wide lack ah RP.... then maybe make ah few rules like this?

Other than tha UMD change.. most ah tha rest seem RP focused any how.

Ah understand whatcher sayin Van.. but these suggestions don't seem ta really do that..

Much rather see some of the weak feats get improved than just add free new ones.

A toned down devastating critical wouldn't bother me either. Maybe the fortitude save or it applies more damage. None the less you don't need much to crit kill my fey psion even if I do have lots of buggy dodge ac.
Ok, but they tend to be general feats. The feats I'm looking at would require things like "Fighter level 5" or whatever. And the idea is to give fighters more things to do, besides just "Click attack" and fall asleep while the enemy takes a bit to die. Active abilities are key to making fighter interesting, imho.

That's true, but they also have to take usually more than 1 feat for something to become effective, which usually means I usually end up with very little feats to spare.
Maybe but I think I'm able to take most everything I think is useful as a fighter.

Currently as Psion without their bonus feats what you need exceeds your character level feats. 5 metapsionics, without you wont do much, 3 pool enhancements without you wont last long. Now you're biting into your epic feats already. Little room for epic penetration and less for focus the way it's done here. Oh, epic powers? hah, maybe some great int if you can manage.

Few tough choices with fighter because you have such an excess.

Not suggesting that we go to the "Your god is Tits McGee so your domains must be Jiggle and Bounce" extreme, but preventing certain blatant powergrab combos would not be a terrible thing and might actually lead to some diversity of builds.
In general I think this idea is good on paper but unless I've misunderstood and we actually are able to add more deities to the list of ones that we are able to be select from... This one might end up being a toss unless we're going to have DM's monitor character sheets and poke every cleric to ask them what their real deity is.
Actually this concept would not be deity-dependent. Instead, it would be creating certain "no-no" combinations, so for instance if you wanted the traditional Time for permahaste and premonition, your second domain would have to come from a smaller range of things that might synergize with Time. No taking contrasting domains like Good and Evil, or Healing and Destruction, or Undeath and Sun.
I generally file that under "optimal powerbuild combination", so changing that just means that the second-best becomes used by 90% instead, so the best of the limited number that fits with Time, and it would lead to people complaining when they find a combination that a deity would have in lore that we disallow... in general a can of worms
