This almost always make sure the OOC problems are dissolved since they realize it wasn't personal, just IC and narratively they aren't being ridiculed, just that their effort and loss are acknowledged.
I'll admit to "taunting" my opponents IC, but only because I feel it makes sense (Ever been in a fight IRL???). That being said, I've only had a handful of PvP in the game at all and that was at the event earlier this week and some arena matches afterwards.

I think it's important to note, and not just for PvP, that IC actions do not and should not represent OOC intentions. I was pretty sure there was a round of "good duels/good fights" as a token of sportsmanship OOC after everything had taken place but having operated on very little sleep that night I may have missed someone.

So, apologies if my character(s) 'laughing' as he continues mid fight, or 'taunting' my opponents as he is glitched into walking backwards offended someone. It's a game, It's not my intent to slander your skill and I think this goes for just about anyone.

Oh no, I don't necessarily mean IC, if you want to do it IC, go for it. I tend to do it via emotes, give them narrative credits while my character may be laughing at their face, and then express in emotes something like *despite their posturing they grimaced from the nasty wound he received in combat* subtle things of that nature, gives a nice message to the opponent.

They do, more often than not. If an in-game word or action risks to be taken on the personal level, it's better to find a way to dampen it to an acceptable level (gamer playing with another gamer, that level) or to not do it at all, if there isn't a way. It's better to not have a pvp than having a displeased fellow player. It's not a PnP situation where everyone should be knowing you in advance and they would be your friends, it's a game you're doing with perfect strangers, and every precaution should be taken.

I completely disagree. It's important to separate IC from OOC and on that note, offense is never given, only taken. But this sounds like a topic for another thread.

Even though I could personally live without PvP being a thing, there are a couple of things you can do to make it a more fulfilling experience to everyone involved.

1. Always stick a little RP into it. The "consent for PvP?" tell shouldn't be your first thought in every encounter where you're not being bowed to, nor should it become the "things aren't going my way, time to use my superior character build and awesome gear to change that" solution. It should fit in with your character and the situation.

2. Have a spare Coin of Life on hand. What causes more rage than anything is that loss of XP when the loser has to respawn. Even IF you RP killing them, that realization of "oh crap, I'm going to have to grind for two hours to make this back" is harsh.

3. Talk it out afterwards. And by this, I mean OOC... and especially if you initiated the combat and lost. Just a minimal human touch can get across the "no hard feelings" vibe and prevent perceived issues from festering.

In-game and out-of-game are "part of the same world" you're living in, they're not watertight compartments. You can try to separate them with the best efforts, but if you write, for example, heavy insults to a stranger, even if they are directed while you both are playing your respective roles, he might not like what you have written, he might take that as a personal offense, especially because you don't know him, and he doesn't know you in the everyday life.

It's not a matter where disagreement can be allowed, it is the rule of good and peaceful coexistence.

Eh. People get offended when Nymphs hate Fiends (which is 100% lore accurate), or when a merchant tells an undead to pike off because they've been recently harassed by undead IC. Bottom line is, there's no way to please everyone. If you're playing a jerk, be a jerk. If you're a jerk in real life, that's your prerogative, but don't bring it here; there's no place for it.
Dulling down your character to avoid making someone butt hurt in real life is still metagaming, even if it's from the other side of the coin. It's important to have a little tact, sure, but there's no reason to not do something your character would do because it might offend someone oocly. If it's too offensive OOCly in the first place, take it to a staff member. (Some things should just be kept out of games. Period. If I find a rapist character in game, I will find a reason to destroy them forever.)
I've been guilty of being an ass OOC, and I was quick to apologize for it when I realized what had happened. That apology can go a long way.

Strawberry Jam,Jun 2 2016 wrote:This, so much this ... why can't people understand that characters with race that hates evil and ugly and favors pretty and good, probably not going to be your friend if you're obviously a monster. It's perfectly fine to play a monster, but relish in it, don't expect everyone sees you as puff the happy dragon, or barnie the purple dinosaur.

This is very true, but at the same time I think characters should fear and respect monstrous races for what they are, powerful beings capable of great destruction. You have humanoids of lesser ecl and power (lore wise) going around bragging that they kill Balors and dragons everyday. I think this is a big reason why only 3 or so people actually consistently play monstrous races, I mean why make a giant when you can just make a pretty little fae and be just as badass with also all the perks a monstrous race character doesn't get, the whole package. It doesn't make sense lore-wise and breaks immersion.

Fey are monsters but they are the seductive kind, the same goes for brachina and succubus. Some characters actually do play an outright distaste for fey. The exception is that their diet doesn't tend to consist of human flesh and souls.

I have been playing here since the day the extra races came out (June 14th, don't ask me why I remember, 2014) and I have never PvP'd once. Which, if anyone knows me from other servers, is super rare. PvP is too much of a hassle on this server, and because of the way people react to it, can be very detrimental to IC/OOC interactions, as well as RP.

PvP doesn't aid anything, especially not on this server. Its a way to get jollies. And anyone who says otherwise is talking out of their ass.

EDIT: As for fey, they're displayed poorly here, simply because of the race choices they have available. There are tons of fey that are ugly and repulsive, people just only care about scantily clad nymphs.
