As for why the Paladins attack on sight, the thing is that almost all portals leading to Mount Celestia usually connect to the first and lowest layer, Lunia, also called the Silver Sea. In Lunia there are already lots of dedicated celestials in place that make sure that no evil enters Celestia, and if it does it is escorted every step of the way. In fact, the portals in Lunia start under the waters of the ocean full of holy water that is there, which already filters out a lot of undesirables.
In Mercuria now you have this very extraordinary portal that should by all rights not exist, but does anyway. The celestials are worried that this might be a very bad sign indeed, but so far they have for reasons of their own not tried (or maybe they can't) to block the portal entirely. Instead, they assume that anyone that passes through and does not have the very secret means of showing themselves as friends is most likely an enemy, and there is too much too lose to allow even any talking (which might be trickery and subterfuge anyway). Therefore, anyone entering the plane of Mercuria gets smited first, and not asked any questions at all. ^_^
(I know, it's not a very good explanation. Point is, you don't know why the defenders of Mercuria are totally unwilling to talk to anyone, even genuine Paladins, all you know of tales heard IC is that anyone entering gets attacked. Feel free to make up your own reasons/speculation why they are so allergic to have their berries stolen. :P )
In any case, it would seem to me to make more sense if the paladins were set into a different faction entirely, and would be hostile or not depending on whether someone in your party is carrying the cursed instruments.

Anyways, its just something we tossed around on dm forum, although pelhikano made first draft for a script doing it :)
Make the conversation "once-a-day", like the other NPC quests in Sigil. This will give people less motivation to farm the high-value drop areas, just looking for that one random, "Holy sh*t" drop.
Just my opinion.

The original intention when I made this place was to give actual evil chars a place to battle Good enemies, and Good chars were supposed to stay the hell away entirely unless they wanted to get alignment-adjusted to Evil (by a DM, not necessarily automatically). It may have been a mistake to make that golden berries quest which makes things a bit more ambiguous.

Not all of the random loot will have negative stats. I have heard very few complaints about the loot on the server I play on that uses this system - mostly, "this item would have been perfect, if only it..."Haventh,Sep 29 2009 wrote:I play on a server with such a loot system. ... only had the regen property. (The world has a full MotB crafting so too many properties inhibits specific crafting.)
Anyway, I just thought that this script might save the builders some time with loot generation.

Sounds like the random generator is kinda Diablo-style. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm really interested in it.
I'd like to see a faction option to remove your current faction and change to another. I gave a character a faction and am currently rethinking my choice.

I'm hesitant to give powers to faction members, since it inevitably leads to people selecting faction based on power instead of rp reasons...
That said I aim to try and make faction count ingame for special quests and such, perhaps have a place where undeads ignore dustmen, etc... There are already a couple of quests that have different solutions possible if you are a specific faction.
