Not Trying To Be Downer, Just Trying To Understand

I play an elitist snob, an invisible husk devoid of personality, and an annyoing pet character. With the three of them i have different approaches to meaningful interaction with other players. The approaches vary, of course, depending on what's the likelihood that it will lead to either a fun time, some good ol' adventure, or being shooed off the stage.

The annoying pet may appear random and sometimes obstrusive, but i put special care not to become too thin or too attention homing. I consider them to be a "secondary character" to a situation, playing off another characters moment or seasoning it, so to speak. I do have my moments of indulgence, but i try not to fall on the "lolsorandum penguin of doom" chasm. If i see too many people staring at me, i stare at someone else and try to divert the attention, or escalate things down when it's tensing up. Probably like comic relief with only a hint of depth that won't come to light unless someone explicitly comes with a shovel, or an imagination circuit.

The elitist snob i park at a table on Khaz's or other social corners and, inbetween heavy emoting, interrupt or mingle into conversations happening around because that's what an opinionated snob would do, correct others, or speak their mind expecting others to listen. While not enjoying high popularity amidst the crowds, i do have a handful of people i do the "big stuff" with. (Conspiracies, long philosophical discussions, trips around the universe, that sort of thing) and that same enmity with the larger groups i take as simply an opportunity to play the villain, twirl my moustache, do heel turns and generally do that sort of thing because there aren't that many sporting villainous people, for what i reckon, at least not with the figurative cape and monocle. Now that i think about it, the server's preference for dogs may be the cause for her infamy, what with having a cat face and all.

Diametrically opposing approaches, both work with roughly the same success when it comes to meeting people, talking, having fun, roleplaying. Although as always it depends on the situations and the people present. It boils down to balancing a bit of bluntness and theatrics with some manner of subtlety and situational awareness.

As for the husk, he's more of a concept or an experiment than a real character, since playing the "silent man with the hood in the corner of the room" leaves little room for interactions and fleshing out something really concrete. Having a super detailed background and lifestory doesn't add much if not even the character himself knows it. hanging the sign "Feel free to drag character to the barracks for some good old police brutality" may be taken out of context. Making too specific a character means it won't get to exist outside of those specific situations, or the "wanna come help me test my abilities in this vaguely in-character grind where we exchange life stories while we commit genocide and purges?". Haven't used him much lately, partially because the elitist snob has some irons in the fire, and also because im still figuring out what's his overall deal.

Hello,
As newcomer in the server I can understand how difficult can be to start some RP. First you log you don't know anybody everything is new and oh god my character is literally a no one my concept is terrible nobody will want even start to talk with her...
Then you find out where's the main rp hangout, first time you just sort of hover nearby listening, then one day you take courage, advance near two other characters that are chatting... make your first rp post... and you discover that they respond! One have asked your name... and.. is done you are rping, your nobody is engaged in conversation and is even telling a bit of her story.
From that point on, the other characters don't seem so distant and far away, and is easier to approach others, make a comment, engage others to talk and so on.
Personally my first big problem is to break the ice but after that you usually discover a treasure made of great people that is willing to have fun with you.
So sometime all that take is to make the first steps and engage another.
My advice is do no get discouraged. Of course depend on your character and the other but even if you are playang a celestial and the other is an infernal is possible the other player is open for some banter.

Yesterday I rped with a character that I thought impossible to reach with mine. I literally assumed he was not even going to aknowledge me, instead lot of fun rp followed.

Sometime the biggest obstacle is in our heads. One make a preconception about another chatacter and follow it to the bitter end.
So.. be open, dare to make the first step. Sometime might go wrong, but by personal experience most of the time will be worth it.

Thanks for the advice

yeah I understand where your coming from, as I was told (which wasn't easy to do initially for ssome odd reason) you react to others actions to how you would react IRL as a start. Then I got gutsy when I got that down and pushed myself to a uncomfortable zone at the time (also being fully aware I was doing so) I went from playing a Male to a Female in attempt to speed up the process of how RP X in Y situation.

Now after weeks of RP I now get this different and almost surreal feeling of me becoming responsive to my character as i type what im saying/doing to reading the chat on what others are saying/doing.. yeah its definitely something, Or perhaps I'm just naturally insane lol

those are just my doings experiences so far.

I am not sure if is the same thing that happens to you, but there are times playing a long term chracter in which I find myself surprised of something my character said or have done.
It is like the character did take life of her own and acted by her own accord.
My take is that you grow accustomed to that character psychology and react faster playing it and sometime before you really think about it.
When it happens I take it as a good sign the character is well developed and rounded.
Or.. maybe I need to be interned.
