I definitely like the idea of dedication bonuses, though I can say there's a slight catch-22 involved. Part of the problem with those builds can be that it's tricky to hit the level cap in the first place, and once you hit ECL 30 there's very little reason to continue beyond trying to get a custom apartment made. At the same time, if you put the bonus earlier on it makes it easy for people to reach the benefit before then taking the 1 level cleric dip.
Either way, that wouldn't stop me from standing behind it. A very minor quibble that in no way prevents me from seeing it as a good idea. Far better than just nerfing one level dips, since it actually creates more build variety rather than less. You could nerf the dips, but all that would do would cause there to be fewer viable builds while either grandfathering the old ones in to not make them mad while making any new players annoyed, or you could nerf it for everyone and piss off all the people who had one.

Actually what I meant to say was: "The player will suggest and the master can contest". It should always be like this.rapsam2003,Jun 5 2016 wrote:One thing to point out is that Players won't regulate themselves. There was a mono-class white knight, shining with glory, and a black knight that prospered on goofy multiclassing.
One day the white knight went into a quest to make the black knight pay. A battle enraged, and the black knight rased the white knight.
The white knight had three sons. Those three sons went to avenge their father, and the black knight killed all three of them.
Those white knight's sons had three sons each. Those grandsons went to avenge their grandfather and their fathers, and the black knight killed all nine of them.
Then the white knight grandsons had three sons each. Those great grandchildren went to avenge their great grandfather, their grandfathers and their fathers. And the black knight killed all twenty-seven of them.
Moral of the story: don't mess with the black night.
Corollary: if you want to mess with the black knight, prepare for insane multiclassing.

The thread that began with someone calling me a jerk for picking up a canary diamond in the abyss got >2000 views, god knows who many pages, and died with someone making the claim that the nebulous upper pantheon of Forgotten Realms is an allegory for the DM, God, and the virgin Mary.Mr_Otyugh,Jun 4 2016 wrote: Did we really need to restart a topic that'll go nowhere? I'd have to say I'm really less interested in nerfing powerbuilds than I am in giving additional options to people who do things that aren't powerbuilding or twinking. One good example of this comes with my suggestion of Dedication Bonuses. For example, a melee character who only takes levels in classes with the "true melee" discriptor (for argument's sake, let's say Fighter, Barbarian, Weapon Master, Frezerker, Blackguard, Mage Slayer, Warden, Divine Champion, and certain melee-oriented racial PrCs) would, at maximum level, get a special bonus feat chosen from a selected list (preferably either new feats unique to this selection, feats a fighter would not normally be capable of qualifying for, or spell-like abilities. This in no way hurts characters who are grabbing a level of cleric here or one of bard there; instead it levels the playing field by rewarding those who stay true to a character concept.

I'd like to pop in here briefly to point out that the player item shop is a great example of the effects of severe UMD locking in that nobody uses any of the damn content. Even the dropped/gambled tomato-named items are kept mainly for the novelty.

I use the Celestial Glory set on Aleis. But there are certain things like the Arboreal Archer set that I think are rarely used. Still, I'd prefer the UMD locking if only because a fiend SHOULD NOT be able to use a Holy Avenger.
