After a 0-0 match, Japan vs Paraguay found themselves in the Gold Goal, where they made their last stand towards victory, nevertheless they ran out of time and it was decided by Penalties, where Japan's road ended and Paraguay's continued after a score of 5-3.
RIP Japan, you did well.
Paraguay passes to the next quarter.
______
Later today it's Spain vs Portugal.

Yeah, you missed a few, but those're the big ones. The refereeing has been really, really awesome. No sarcasm. As in, it leaves me in a state of awe and wonder. At how bad it is. They really need to utilize video - maybe just tap into some of the television cameras, I don't know. I mean, when the television commentators can see within ten seconds why a ref's call was mad, that's something you might wanna get in on.Xynisto,Jun 29 2010 wrote: I dont think it is a golden goal after 90 mins but 2 times 15 mins regardless the goals scored in extra time (followed by penalties or not). We saw this in the match Ghana vs US where they continued to play after the goal of Ghana.

It hasn't already been?Â
- USA goal against Slovenia 3-2 that has not been booked by the amateur ref from Mali;
- the England goal vs Germany that was not a goal after all;
- the offside goal of Argentina vs Mexico;
- the schwalbe penalty of Slovakia vs Netherlands;
- the unnecessary double yellow for Kaka (Brasil) vs Ivory Coast;
- the unnecessary double yellow for Australia vs Germany;
- the unnecessary double yellow for Klose (Germany) vs Serbia;
- the elbow of Villa (Spain) that did not got awarded with a red card;
- the red cards Portugal should have in the match vs Brasil, but were lucky enough to escape
- and I probably missed several as well.
Oh, on second thought, another of the big ones isn't a specific event, so much as a common phenomenon. The face-holding, trying to get an opponent carded for stepping on your toe.
Though, in fairness to the refs, they can't catch everything. So I can understand that, without being able to replay and stuff, they're gonna miss things. But what really irks me is when they see things that aren't even there. Like in USA vs. Ghana. Or the maligned Kaka.

In an addition to my own assertion that the referees need to use video... they might be, at least for goals, which is a good step and would have really helped England.
FIFA may implement video technology

After a superb match between Brazil and the Netherlands, Brazil's road to world's cup ends after a defeat by 2-1
Netherlands passes, and awaits the next adversary that will be decided later today between Uruguay and Ghana.
Nicely done Netherlands, you deserved to win.

Unfairness, but then again it's like at war, everything counts.
After a 1-1 match with extra time, it came to Penalties.
Uruguay, you didn't deserve passing but luck was on your side.
Ghana, you had your chances, apparently luck wasn't on your side. You go home but at least know you deserved winning. See you next time.
Uruguay passes after an exciting match, will be facing the Netherlands.

You know, the thing I like best about FIFA is that they make the NHL look like a real professional league.

And this is why you don't bet on the World Cup.
