You're assuming that the only way to grapple someone is to grab them and crush them under your weight. It's not. The rules allow it, so if you can beat that large penalty (-8 for the hin)... you can grapple a large creature.
As for the "boneshattering" thing, I wasn't there, so hard to say, but it -sounds- like the person might just have been using flowery words to describe how strong the punch is, not describing the results of the punch. Like when a bard sings a "Haunting" melody, or a thief moves "like a shadow".
Metagaming

Along this lines, is it considered metagaming if someone doesn't want to RP a certain way? Like, say your character is being told to do something by person, and they don't want to. If person 2 essentially tries to make you, that's metagaming. I've seen 1 or 2 instances of that, usually where person 2 does some kind of ridiculous thing to your character.Neethanial,Jul 6 2016 wrote: "Hey, I'm judging your rp". Situations like this are best left for DMs to handle so they can explain the situation as a neutral party.
Like...a halfling trying to punch the living daylights out of a fiend; no, actually -- physics says you didn't hit the fiend with a "boneshattering" punch. (This actually happened to me, but it was resolved via PMs between players.) There's some RP that just doesn't make sense. Having 26 strength is just a number (especially on a server like this, where it's NOT hard to get 26 strength with the right build). You can't, as a player, choose to have your small character do the same kind of damage that a huge creature with the same strength does. You would lack the weight/size as a halfling. I would consider doing unrealistic things metagaming, I guess...is my point. Same with doing something unrealistic or unwanted TO another player.
Note: Neither of the actions were PvP, in the sense of initiating actual PvP fight, but I did ask if I could initiate the situation before it happened.

It's a number telling how strong a character is and how hard they can punch.
In a setting with wizards, psions and dragons a "mundane" small humanoid can grapple giants.
D&D and low fantasy realism simply don't mesh together.

Autoing is against the rules, you can't impose results on people. Now you can request for dice roll contest, but technically it's up to the two sides to describe results in co-narrative.

I mean, that was kind of the problem. When the other person punched my character, they disliked it that I was like, "Um, no...no 'boneshattering'. You didn't break his nose. No, did not agree to that. If you want to punch him, fine. He deserved it. But his nose is fine." We did a Str vs Dex roll; I lost my dex roll. I took the punch, but I didn't want it to break my PC's nose. My prior potshot (which was agreed on BEFORE I took it) was a minor tap, like you would use to remind someone they're being very rude. As I said, we resolved it via PMs.Mr_Otyugh,Jul 11 2016 wrote:Autoing is against the rules, you can't impose results on people. It just seems odd that people think 26 means you have the strength of a god.
It's still subject to physics. In terms of physics, a small humanoid canNOT grapple giants. Why? Because their arms & body are simply not big enough for that.Embersworn,Jul 11 2016 wrote:In a setting with wizards, psions and dragons a "mundane" small humanoid can grapple giants.
