Did you get the cd key from GoG?

Since Atari pretty much discontinued support for this game and GameSpy died, companies selling NWN2 (including GOG) are generating keys on their own using same algorythms Atari was using.

Which means there's an issue of running into having a cd key the same as cd key from another reseller, because they generate their keys independently...

I feel like the chances of someone else having your exact CD key given to them are fantastically low, and the chances of you both playing a ten year old game at the same time are also really, really low.

I would suspect it's a bug causing the server to recognise you as already being online, like a failure to log you out properly, so it gets confused.

No, it's not a bug.

I know what is causing it and how it's fixed from a different server.

It's two people having the same cd key.

And after GOG sales chances for two people playing the same ten years old game went up a bit.

Since GOG or anyone else uses same generator there's a chance they might generate exactly the same key that was long time ago generated by Atari.

This problem started appearing recently on PWs more often precisely because GameSpy and old account system are no longer and now resellers have to generate keys on their own. Except they all use the same algorythm.

Before this if anyone had this kind of problem it was simple - they were using illegal copy of the game. Now? It's just Atari being their usual s****y selves and giving no damn to supporting what they sold years ago.

According to the op, he has a physical version of the game, and as such, isn't using a key generated by GoG.
Still, pretty terrible luck.

But if someone else is using the same key because they got the copy sold from Steam or GOG...

The way of fixing this issue is to make up another set of keys, server side, then giving new keys to the player.

Unfortunately, this has to be done individually to every affected player.

My question would be: have you ever been able to log in SCoD, or is it constantly displaying that your CDkey is in use? If the former, here's something you can try. Make a new account and a dummy character in it, see if you can log in then. I know it has helped for some with the CDkey already in use error, weirdly enough.

Also if you can write in your ingame login name, I can also confirm or deny if you are only one using the said CDkey or if there are others.
