So I've been thinking about having my main character join the Mercykillers (been torn between them, the Harmonium, or staying factionless) but I dont want to join something that's dead. Maybe I'm just not seeing them but it appears there arent a lot of Mercykillers around, is that true? Also since this would be the first faction I'd be joining, do you just join via the OOC room or do you get recruited IC or something?

Thanks in advance.

There are a number of mercykiller players around, though things have been rather inactive recently. I do not think anyone would object to oocly joining, But if you want the full ic recruitment I would recommend seeking out Dace Andor or Rozalina Zarovan as they are both ranking members. They could probably give you some insight on the faction.

For a full official joining Dace Andor is definitely the best one to seek out. You can join the OOC room but I highly recommend joining IC first it is so much more fun RP and something you will remember.

I can certainly say the oathtaking scene is worth joining ICly for <3

It also familiarizes you with the Mercykiller tenets, which to my knowledge, aren't posted anywhere else in-game. Actually, Dace, maybe that should be in the new prison.

^The setting was retired some 15 years ago. I don't believe the setting was ever updated nor errata'd in 3rd edition. Pretty much everything you see on wikis and on the forums here uses that as a reference.
Yup. Sadly, 3rd edition never contained much Planescape stuff. WotC is kind of a bunch of silly buttmunches and never have as much variety as TSR did. Of course, there is the Planar Handbook, but there's nowhere near as many splatbooks as AD&D2 had for the setting.

It's very available around the web. And it's out of print, so it's not like you have the choice to pay for it.

I recommend paying for things that are in print, but .... /shrug

The tenants are the FactolsManifesto. The main characters in the Planescape lore are Darkwood, Nilesea, and Swan Son . They drive the setting. The interesting thing in cannon lore is that the Paladin Swan Son who runs the prison and whom Nilesea trusts implicitly as her right hand man is plotting against the tiefling Nilesea. The underling conflict of remnants of the Sons of Mercy and the Sodkillers as well as Nilesea actively purging preceived threats to herself which many are Paladins.

I was told those elements above aren't roleplayed often if at all which if true is a shame since it is what makes the mercykillers such an interesting faction at least IMO. Others are free to disagree. :)
