New PC, No DVD drive. New CD Key

Hello there.
Im in the position that my new computer does not have a DVD drive thus i cannot install NWN2 again without getting it from GOG or Steam. Will that affect my access to my old characters? And if so is there anything i can do to get access to my characters if i buy a new version?
