PM Notification system

Is there any way to fix the PM notification system on this new forum? I've played around with it a bit but it doesn't seem to do anything. There are no notifications (via either pop-up or email) when you receive one. All I get is the tiny number at the top of the page which is very easily missed. sometimes I won't notice a PM for days.

There is a "Display an alert whenever you receive a new PM? Y/N" setting though. But no email alert, which is a headache with multiple accounts.
