Thoughts for Crafting

Okay, so I'm making a new topic for this rather than simply dropping it at the end of the "things you'd like to see in game" thread.

So... I'm at the point where my character is getting others to enchant items for her, and also seriously considering making a new enchanter character. And I truly do appreciate the usage of the SoZ crafting method rather than the old clunky "everybody has every recipe because we got 'em off the internet" method.

However... what we are running into are the limitations of only having certain capabilities. Yes, I know that we're still actually in Beta, but having looked into item special properties in the toolset I'd like to suggest some things that could be added to items via crafting that, when combined with the "three enchantment" limitation, could make for some very pressing decisions, without "breaking" the game.... Also, these could be tied to specific spells to make sure that no one character would be able to single-handedly craft every item in the game....

Weapons
Extra Damage:
Bludgeoning
Piercing
Slashing
Sonic
Holy
Unholy
Anarchic
Axiomatic
Special Feats:
2-weapon fighting
Combat Expertise
Rage
Cast Spell On Hit:
Inflict Light Wounds
Bane
Cause Disease
etc.

But as an example of what could be done, let's take the bludgeoning enchantment. This would be something more popular among clerics, as they are more likely to focus upon blunt weapons. So... the spell component could be "weapon of impact", a spell only clerics can cast. In addition, rather than requiring gems and essences, the recipe could call for the consumption of two bars of cold iron and a +1 warmace (which I find an interesting option, giving the possibility of crafting an item which will in turn craft another item).

The same thing could be done with spells from the druid, ranger, and paladin spell lists, and perhaps even blackguard, warpriest, harper agent, and assassin spell-like abilities. Personally, I find the thought of having to visit a paladin (and likely prove your worthiness to them) in order to have your weapon made holy not only interesting, but also fitting in preventing half-demon blackguards from running about with holy swords...

personally, I rather see negative and positive damage left out.

I rather see those on epic weapon drops (the purples) only...so that those actually remain "epic"


Maybe limit even more properties available on those epic drops only. (otherwise, what would be the use of said drops if we can slap all properties on them ourselves?)

Other than that, I -know- there are about...160 new recipes on the way :)

fairly sure the bulk of the things you list here will be in it?

More recipies, yes.

But I'd still prefer the system as it is now. It is a lot more convenient without the need to cast specific spells because any enchanter with the level and feats can create the item. No need to use that OOC knowledge of which login has the class X or Y crafter.

Alot of recipes are on their way indeed...

Sonic damage has been deliberately left out since by lore so few creatures have resistance to it, so it would be the 'must have' elemental enchantment for all weapons.

Holy, Unholy, Axiomatic and Anarchic was actually in our first batch of enchantments, but for some reason doesn't work, and haven't had time to look into it more yet.

Give us time :)

There's plenty more recipies coming and here's few things that are included:


Weapon: On Hit status effect (poison/silence/deafeness... etc)
Cast Spell # times per day properties (to multiple different spells)
Extra spell slots (for few classes)

Axiomatic/Anarchic/holy/unholy were included in the first set of recipies, but they have not worked (although it's copy pasted from Obsidians enchanting fully ;P so go and figure), we are intending on getting them added eventually when they work however.



Sonic damage was left out intentionally, because it goes by just about every monsters DRs. There are some weapons out there with sonic damage by standard in them, but as enchanting recipe it will unlikely come.

I'll likely be making more for skills as well, and add bludgeon/slashing/piercing damages, but going to get the other lot of recipies in first.

Excited about the new recipes and I also like the SoZ crafting system.....is very user friendly. With the new recipes will their be more characters dropping items to convert to essences? Earth essences as worth more than high end gems to Kaille right now lol.

Have also had fun with the brew potions feat - would be fun to brew a little molotov cocktail to through at those beasties in carceri!! Or a potion that would help my shapeshifters get through damage resistance for short periods....just a thought :)

Cryptc and Mr O are aware of the earth essence rarity :)

I am fairly certain this will be altered in time, but for now, I am hogging that stack of radiant earth essences I got :P
