Well SCoD has certainly persisted through time and far beyond expectations. Considering this was the first staff meeting before any serious building had started, the general opinion was this:

[00:03] <Shyntree> I mean, being a pessimist I think there's a roughly 50% chance building work will start on the server, 15% chance that it won;t be abandoned and a workable server is launched, and a 5% chance that once launched it'll gain a regular enough playerbase to last as a server.

Also just so you aren't puzzled, Shyntree was one of the three original admins along me and cryptc. And that was somewhere around november to december 2008. The opinion isn't even completely off, just looking at the nwnlist.com gives you a good idea about the amount of servers and how many of them have had difficulty of breaking through despite potentially having superior mechanics even. So you know, enjoy being part of beating the odds in the snot. :P

Come to think of it, I was 21 when we started this server. Huh. I've spent pretty much exactly 25% of my life in here. I'm not sure I'll even want to know how many hours I've sunk into server related matters through all of that time... it's definitely in high quadruple digits though, maybe more.

My (nonexistant) God, its been a little over 6 years that ive been on the server. Ive seen friends come, seen friends go. Seen alpha builds, remakes and remixes. An old buddy mine and darkrobs ran a storyline that released a deadly disease that totally laced devils and demons, its why there are piles of bodies in the abyss, we still miss you Rust.

saw a obyrinth loose in the city and helped capture it with my female elven mage. had a pally become a blackguard, then redeem herself to climb the ranks in faction, a faction she joined because the harmonium had an even worse rep then! i still remember those notary days.

i still remember freaky fridays too. before agony aunt applied some serious love, we were giving away free levels to folks to make new chars, it was that bad! on a good day, we where lucky to have 5 people and that number has increased dramatically, to over 30 (though i still wonder how sometimes why no one in the bazaar, even with 25+ people, hehe). those where trying times to, server participation was virtually dead, our lovelies going to greener pastures.

and the crazy events.. the lions, tigers, bears, oh my! it's been one hell of a *** ride, let me tell (i meant to curse). heck, there are still some folks around from when i was new, can ya believe it, how old are thier characters.

and the pcs i've made holy hamburgers batman. if i didnt recycle them, i easily would have over 60!
Sigil has no rules or boundaries, well, until recently, hehe. and the characters i've run into! Hildmor (yea i went there, still a softy in my book, ain't no such thing as halfway crooks, ha!) and his schemes (and i mean schemes people). Phoenix trying to blown shit up, just cuz it was time to blow shit up. Vorgazaar and Da' Horde! mealfina's obsession to join the ranks of god hood, hunttress and her creepy eyes (those things were creepy too), damn good memories.

Good times good times. Outside of an alien invasion or nwn3, here's to 6 more years of Sigil, our Sigil. There's no place like home. Time to make some more but with a new batch of casting characters.

Ah, thanks everyone for the memories.

Makes me feel old (okay, older than usual) to remember most of things you're talking about, and then realize some of them were over half a decade ago...

However, this is the closest I could find on the web for Huntress' eyes, although it is missing the "whirling galaxy" effect inside. What can I say, Ultraloth blood is pikin' rare!

NWN2 is going to be 10 years old in just a few months, it's officially a retro game.

Fun fact, there are only 3 years between NWN's last expansion and the release of NWN2. It's safe to say no NWN3 is coming unless somebody makes their own based only on OGL content.

No, but hopefully Beamdog makes a Baldur's Gate 3 (or whatever it is). Their next game is supposed to based on 5E rules.

Yeah, but unfortunately the chances of them making it with a working toolset, scripting system, and the potential for persistent worlds is next to nil. So we'll get a couple weeks of fun from that.

I still remember the first ever day Maelfina (and thus I) set foot in Sigil...almost 6 years ago now too!

Followed an urchin through a portal, got blackmailed by a night hag into delivering a mysterious object to a Dustmen Factotum...mysterious object ends up destroying said Dustman in the middle of the streets and I have to leg it to the nearest portal while the heat died down.

First day, one accidental assassination later, and I was quite keen on the place.
