Is it true that currently if you don't have Monk or UMD, then the best dodge AC you can get on gear is +2? So you will be 3 ac behind those with these classes?

No it's not true, you can get +3 dodge AC without monk classes or UMD, boots of hardiness +3.

thanks...do the boots of sun soul have a dex boost on them so you would be limited to one more crafting bonus? same for hardiness I guess.

Boots of Sun Soul +1: Dodge AC +1
Boots of Sun Soul +2: Dodge AC +2
Boots of Sun Soul +3: Dodge AC +3, +1 dex
Boots of Sun Soul +4: Dodge AC +4, +2 dex
Boots of Sun Soul +5: Dodge AC +5, +3 dex

Boots of Hardiness +1: Dodge AC +1, +1 con
Boots of Hardiness +2: Dodge AC +2, +2 con
Boots of Hardiness +3: Dodge AC +3, +3 con

With some custom enchanting done to these base items:

( Boots of Hardiness +3: )
+ 3 Dodge AC
+ 5 Constitution
+ 4 Reflex Saves

( Boots of Sun Soul +5: )
+ 5 Dodge AC
+ 3 Dexterity
+ 4 Reflex Saves, or + 5 Constitution.


Yes, you will loose two points of dodge AC, which doesn't help if your character is cought flat footed. Yet, I cannot say a character without monk levels, or appropriate amount of UMD, would be at the sorry end of this stick.

why can the boots of hardiness get +5 con on them but the sun soul can only get +3 dex?

With some custom enchanting. ;)

Enchanting system allows improving existing properties, and constitution is boots recipe, where as dexterity is not.

Can sun soul boots be used with UMD?
My main char has got 12 UMD , like is that what you need or more?
Or is it not possible to use them anyway

11 UMD allows them to be used.
