Additional Information
Ashalle Academy: Like Kamine Aerlin, she a student of Ashalle Academy only about 2 years junior. Ashalle Academy was founded by Headmaster Gavin Ashalle shortly after witnessing the Blood War firsthand. Fearful of what would happen should the denizens of that war turn their power toward the upper planes or Toril itself, he pleaded with the deities for support. It was mostly the lawful good deities who gave him audience. He proposed a military academy true to any good god that would support it to train soldiers to help fight against the horde should it ever breach the Blood War. In addition, such soldiers would be agents of service to good and justice as the member deities defined it. In return, the soldiers would have access to the divine powers granted to paladins, clerics, and other holy professions without swearing loyalty to one specific god but instead to all deities involved.
Although Headmaster Ashalle received the blessings of several gods for such an undertaking, he faced much skepticism that such an undertaking would be successful. In order to demonstrate the concept, the first students (and to this day only students) recruited were Aasimars. It was believed that their divine lineage would both appease the gods and develop a loyal and true body that would validate the schoolÂ’s purpose and importance. In addition, Headmaster Ashalle instituted a series of strict measures to be followed by all students to ensure that they followed the code of the gods and not be led astray by temptations. These measures only became stricter after an incident within the academy grounds caused the death of several students and nearly led to the dissolution of the entire institution.

A yellow beam of sunlight pushed through the botanical garden to embrace a single, white lily. The flower happily let the light warm it. While it was the only flower in what was supposed to be a flower bed, it was not alone. Everyday, it received fresh water and careful pruning and adjusting. ItÂ’s soil was also well tended and it would received gentle caresses from a soft hand. All this accompanied by lyrical humming. A flower could not ask for more.

The gentle hand returned and lightly patted the flower. The petals spread slightly and the hand moved down to the stem. With a thumb and forefinger pressed firmly against it, the flower was held firmly straight up. Then the hand pushed a fingernail into the stem severing it from the ground. The flower was then raised up into the light before being set into a field of red, waving hair.

“Reggie? What brings you to my lovely garden?” the auburn-haired girl said as she knelt up and then turned to face Commander Reginald Grant.

“Your garden?” he responded incredulously. She gave the commander a big grin.

“Sure does look like mine.” She spread out her arms to indicate all the work she had put into it. The trees she had planted and encouraged to grow so that their branches began to press against the skylight kilometers above. The ferns and other green plants were arranged to perfectly share sunlight. She even carved the hills and streams that rolled throughout the garden. “So, what can I do you for?”

Commander Grant smiled at her informality. “Business, as usual.” He lifted up a sealed envelope and she plucked it from his hands.

“Oh? What’s this? Special orders?” She inspected the document from all angles without opening it.

“It’s your internship assignment.” She frowned. Then looked more closely at it.

“Really now? Internship assignments require the seal of old Gavs now, do they?” She pushed the sealed side of the parchment into his face. The Commander brushed it aside.

“Why don’t you open it?”

“Must I? I’d rather have you describe it to me.” She said with a flirty smile. The Commander only replied with a sigh. He actually had a great deal of respect for her. A mere glance at the garden demonstrated that she clearly lived up to her reputation as a gifted druid. However, her lax attitude toward military protocol dismayed him. While she has never disobeyed orders or broken rules outright, she tended to be more familiar with her superiors than is appropriate. It probably comes from her unique status, he thought. While the garden was under the authority of the Academy, she had quickly assumed the role of its head caretaker. This was one of the many perks of this status at the Academy. When she was discovered, she was offered admittance to the school at a much older age than most of her peers. Her talents did not disappoint. But that was not the only reason that she was fast-tracked through the early classes. Aasimar druids are extremely rare. But, more importantly, the Academy was always looking for more deities to sponsor them. Her presence solidified Chauntea’s support. She is the best choice for this mission, he reminded himself.

“I’m not here to dictate to you. Read it. If you have any questions, I’ll then answer them.” She turned around and cast a spell onto the ground that caused vines to protrude out and form the shape of a chair. Then she reclined, facing the commander, and began to read snippets of the orders aloud.

“Under the authority...blah, blah, blah, Moira Summers is to begin her internship in Sigil...Sigil? What’s this about?”

“Keep reading,” he sighed. She studied him for a moment then went back to the document.

“Special mission...Kamine Aerlin?” She paused and her eyes lit up. “This is about the Morgan Incident, isn’t it?” Commander Grant indicated for her to continue. “It is! You guys haven’t finished with it yet?”

“It is an important investigation.” The Commander tried to keep his tone formal.

“Yeah, a what....three year old one? One we’re all supposed to believe is concluded.”

“Let’s just say we reached the limit of what we could do here.”

“And the rest points to Sigil.” She leaned back going over what she knew of the incident. It occurred not long after her arrival, but her focus on the garden and the accelerated courses kept her relatively isolated from it.

“Correct.” He was impressed, but that is why he recommended her for this mission.

“So, if Sarol wasn’t acting alone, as you’ve led us to believe,” she gave him a wry smile, ”what do we know about his accomplice?”

“Nothing more than the linkage to Sigil. That alone took us over a year to discover.” Moira let out a laugh.

“So you sent Kamine there to try and draw him out.” Grant gave her a cold look, but didn’t respond.. “And now, you want me to be a bit more active in the search.” Grant gave a short nod. “But you know nothing about this guy, other than he may be in Sigil, and the incident took place years ago without another peep from him...or her, for the matter.”

“Yes.” Moira again studied Grant for a moment and then nodded knowingly.

“I see. This is something that you can’t just let go. Someday, you’re going to have to tell me what is really going on.” With those words, the vines forming her chair retreated into the ground and Moira stood upon before the Commander. She gave him a quick salute before turning around and moved further into the garden. “I guess I should start packing,” she shouted as she walked toward the trees in the back. Commander Grant watched carefully as she left. She’s the best we’ve got for this kind of work, he reminded himself. But she’s right, we’re going to have to tell her eventually. Both of them.
