The Voyage
[size0]Logbook of Rademo Duwar[/size]
Several weeks earlier...
Day 1
- I have finally found funding, guide and workers to start my voyage to the Astral Plane. A far border is said to have a stone remnants of old deity that is yet unexplored. I have high hopes that this will be the turning point of my career. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- We started the voyage, it was easy to get to the Astral Plane, but slight set pack has made the traveling arrangements mixed up. We are delayed by day or two. We are stationed in Tu'narath in meanwhile. I'd rather leave as soon as possible from here, the Githyanki do not like outsiders much. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- No updates from the traveling plan. Some of our workers are starting to feel that this is waste of everyones time and money of our funder. I've put up notice to get new traveling arrangement. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- Good news! We've got on our way finally. A small vessel takes us towards our destination, it will take few days to reach the goal, but we have not been delayed too long. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- Few days have passed since the real journey began. We are still seeking the exact location. Astral Plane is huge and quite absent of locations. Morale is high. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- We finally found it, a small piece of land drifting. This must be it. We have landed, but the vessel has left us with the notice that it will return after one week. First day we spent to establish a camp. We found several holes and caves, but have not yet entered anywhere. Fame here I come. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- We've started our examinations. It would seem that someone has been here recently, or someone is still here. However we've found no other camps or signs of life. We're assuming it might be undead or automaton set to protect the place, or perhaps one of the prior discoverers that left. We found several ancient scriptures, but the language doesn't seem to match any of the languages in our books. I knew this was going to be big. We took few samples to the base camp and continue tomorrow. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- A disaster, three of our workers have gone sick. I believe we might've triggered a trap without noticing it. I've tried a few of our antidotes and herbs, it seems to slow down the effects, but not negate it. I must be more careful. I decided most will now remain in base camp and only one will accompany me on the travels. On discovery notes we found shattered pieces of pictures. It will take some time to gather the puzzle together. It might reveal more of the finding. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- My assistant went missing. I assume he couldn't wait any longer and went to the caves. We tried to look for him, but no avail. I don't think we are alone. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- Two more went missing... panic is spreading around my crew. We still have couple of days before the vessel returns. We took a vote to decide our course of action, we chose to pick a easily defended location and wait it out. Couple more days. - Rademo Duwar [/li]
- Sod it! We made the wr---------------- [/li]
Rademo Duwar is quickly writing in his usual manner the daily log into his journal, his writing hasty as he had become the only one. However audible and rather faint footsteps behind him stopped him quickly, to him it was like a booming drum as the steps came closer. Calmly he put his quill to the ink pot and turned around to face the stranger... for first time he spotted the dark figure glancing at him through a mask with hateful red glowing glass separating from the eyes. "W-who are you?! What do you want?" Rademo dared to utter at the stranger, reaching through his table for anything that could be used as weapons.. a knife, that will have to do.. he thought.
The apparition answered in extremely deep tone, altered by the mask it wore no doubt "I am you of course. Rademo Duwar, a failed archeologist." The answer only got more questions squirming into Rademos mind, what did he mean!? Wha- *SLASH* His thoughts ceased by a new more alarming thought, warm liquids of his life spreaded through his chest into his helpless hands... he tried to helplessly counter attack the stranger, but no avail, he simply avoided and kept distance and let the time do its job. He understood there'd be no way out of this... slowly the darkness swallowed him.
The man watched Rademo struggle in vain and slowly fall to floor with a hateful glare aimed at him. He simply watched it and finally made sure Rademo was dead by cutting his head off. No need to take chances. Now he took all of Rademos and his dead crews possessions, ran through for things that were worth anything and re-clothed himself with Rademos spare clothing. The remnants he burned, no need to leave anything behind. All that was left was the vessel... and whomever had revealed this location. "Just like old times..." Stated the new "Rademo Duwar" grimly. The crew of the vessel shared the fate of the digging site crew. The logbook pointed towards Sigil...
