Piri....scamp, imp....sweetheart. Since coming to Sigil, spends less and less time at my side now. The diversions of this place are....too tempting to her I think.
When she did finally appear, she chattered on about her new axe and the giant Innkeeper Gundul, made mention of learning how to make a wand for enlarge and shrink spells for 'it' to work and would not stop talking about his lushous white locks and I think she thinks herself in love. Then...she told me she was going to go live with the golden-haired Titus and 'titania lady redhair-Deirdre', chuntered on about portals within barrel's and enthused about 'true love'. I cannot keep up with her anymore.
As for myself, I had an odd meeting with Marek and, wisely I feel now, hearing more of his history, did not feel persuaded to trust him and 'show' him more of myself, even if Kelth thinks of him as friend. On one side, the young man makes me want to help him. but I saw something else that...if thoughts pass between, would make me vunerable if I were to reveal more, something older, darker, dangerous, sly. He trailed a finger down my cheek, I felt cornered and his tone of voice changed, eerily at that moment and a darker glint came to his eye. That was warning enough. I spoke to Kelth after and found out a little more of those other sides of the man. I knew then that I had made the right decision and asked Kelth to keep my secrets when it comes to Marek.
I saw him take the tiefling by the throat and placed hand upon his muscled arm to stop him going too far. The rage in his eyes was tremendous. But, brawling in the marketplace was not going to help. The last thing I wanted was to see this great giant that is my good friend in trouble with the authorities. 'Arvolexia'..I found out her name from Kelth later on, had apparently seen something and taunted Kelth with that information, a troublemaker no doubt...another I would be wary of...is it typical of their kind?
A visit to explore the gymnasium to find the arena had me meeting up with a girl I had seen a few times in the bazaar, usually spitting, a little rough and a bit dirty and crumpled of clothing. She was hoping for a bit of company for the sauna. I could not oblidge, let her think it was for 'shame' of showing my body, but I was curious to see it anyway so went with her. Kaite, her name and a local to the city. The heat of the sauna was intense, the blast of it on opening the door brought immediate sweat to my brow and my robes dampened and wings became heavy. I did not dally long inside. Kelth came upon us out in the hallway and I reminded him about those training lessons so the three of us headed into the arena.
He made an approach from behind, my back with bound wings is my most vunerable side and had me instinctively turning and raising my weapon. Clash of steel as scythe met claymore. Twice I managed to block, once I slipped to the side and dodged a blow. The last, despite calling upon Chauntea and her divine presence for power, had me falling to the ground against his great strength and the tip of that great blade was pointed to my chest plate. Kaite took her turn then, her technique quite different, dextrously rolling to the side afew times before succombing herself to the might of that warrior as I watched. I ..enjoyed the session and look forward to learning more.

Sins...it felt like a confession. The second person to come to me to talk about deeds they regret as if seeking absolution from me. I..told him...he had to forgive himself first, be strong of mind and heart, determination and...of faith. It was peaceful, that time spent talking. I learned a little more of his family, his past. I 'felt' his hurt when he talked of his brother. Strange. Held his hand for longer than I would have thought I could and..'touched' that feeling. Or so it felt. Perhaps I imparted a small bit of comfort too. If I did, all well and good.
He asked me then about my own family and after slight hesitation I told him a little. Of the man who brought me up whom I call father and the puzzle of Piri's mention of my 'three fathers'. I had bared my wing and lowered my hood for our conversation when I noticed we were no longer alone.
A small person was sitting on the beach some way off. Immediately Kelth pulled off his cloak to hide me while I restrapped and covered up again. He offered to check and see if the girl had noticed anything. On one side, I thought, better not to make issue, on the other, I wanted to know if there might be repercussion. He came back and it seems she saw nothing. There are so few places where I can truly stretch, be free and exercise. The Inn room is so limiting. I let down my guard feeling so relaxed there as we spoke and it could have come to trouble. I should be more careful...even if Kelth told me he would help, I still need to keep eye out for myself.

Piri had business for 'love potions' even before she had learned how to brew them. Although that time was nigh close. Mister Firtraad the dwarven potion maker was going to take her to apprentice. Her love potions were going to be 'much' more potent then those made by that rogue witchdoctor down in the sewers. And this 'couple' of hins Guido and the sweet looking Meren...though Guido, muting and blushing had denied the two were 'together' ....looked like they were suited, her potion would help things along nicely there. The first out the pot would be cheap...40gp a bottle she told to Guido, but her second brew would be the 'real' stuff and much more costly. "Guaranteed to work" she exclaimed, hand on her heart, that cheeky grin spread across her face and she fluttered off with his order.

I could still taste the cherry flavour of that cheroot of Vale's on my tongue and until I washed my robe and hair, the smell of it would linger there for a while. But...it had made me feel relaxed as he had promised and the taste was not unpleasant at all once I had overcome the coughing fit on the first few inhalations.
We talked a little of what it is to be Harmonium guard (Vale was off duty so he had a little time to spare) and I asked him if it were possible to experience something of that without necessarily joining the faction, having mentor to follow around, perhaps act as a guard for the day to learn of that duty and responsibillity. As he was the only guard I knew by name I prompted him to offer to take up my request, which he did quite willingly and we made arrangements in a day or so to meet.

"A clean soul" he spoke quietly "... just don't want to see you gettin' scratches on it, is all...an' a lot of experiences leave 'em, and they leave 'em fer good"
"There are already a few scratches, ones I've had to deal with...but..I think I can tell what is right from wrong...I am quite happy to hear your words of advice as a.....friend " she nodded firmly "...but in the end we take the path our nature's and soul's require us to take no?"
She could almost see her reflection in his icey blue eyes and he'd responded to her words with a smile, warmer than usual. "I'm honoured ta know that ye consider me one"
She was tempted then...there to reveal herself. Having looked into his eyes, heard only good things of him from her good friend Kelth, she felt she could trust but then he spoke of secrets unwilling to be shared and returned and the next moment she heard a clap of hands and a soft laugh..
"How touching" and Naya was wincing inside at her carelessness.
"Nastasia...how...nice" she said dryly, for she recognised that voice though Nastasia still remained hidden. They had bandied words, once more she had to bat her hand against Nastasia's that lay to her chest and get her out of her personal space...although no death threats this time. Then something had happened to make the man walk off shaking his head after taking Nastasia's shoulder in one hand and locking eyes.
Curious. Naya looked at his receding back as he walked away and soon after she left Nastasia to return to the Inn to lie down herself. That cheroot of Vale's was responsible for relaxing her and letting her guard down more than she had realised.

Hot and stuffy with small opening for the mouth and slits for for the eyes.. "Hard-heads" they were called and now I know why. I donned the red enclosed helm and put on the old style Harmonium guard armour, kept my cloak on and picked up my scythe then followed Vale to the bazaar on his patrol...I was to experience being 'guard for a day'.
The first task he set me was to help search the stalls for religious objects and artifacts, and with polite apology I checked over Minerva's stall. All was clear, I found nothing unusual. I followed him while he spoke with a trader named Vorr, discussing the trading licences. There was some dispute over this but nothing that came to any serious grief, I just stood back and watched, noticing a young girl displaying a humorous carved figurine of Harmonium guard, I wondered what Vale would make of this but when he did see it, he only laughed. I do not think he is a hot head like some other guards I have seen.
As we continue our patrol through the market a runner came up passing him a message, I could see his concern. "Now you will see what else the Harmonium have to deal with in the city" he said and commanded me to follow, we picked up a faster pace. On reaching the Hive Ward, there were bodies around, some dead and dying, they were diseased..the people had been attacked, I kneeled to try and tend but it was not something I recognised. Vale did...they had been infected with lycanthropy. We followed the trail down into the sewers and saw the wererats, the cause of the problem and sliced through them in search of the source. For only with the blood source could we hope to help the afflicted citizens recover. In a far tunnel room we came upon it. It didn't take Vale long to deal with the lead wererat and he took a few vials of its blood. On reaching the surface again, we both shared the work of tending to the diseased people. I offered to Vale then my services as healer to the guards should they have need in future...although I was quite sure I would not be joining that faction.
A quick tour of the Harmonium barracks, a practice hit or two on one of the training dummies and I was hot and bothered again, finding it difficult to breath. Turning my back to Vale, I had to take off and switch to my own helm, tucking my long hair underneath quickly, but on nearing the hallway exit of the barracks he asked me to replace the Harmonium helm until we reached the outside. This was so that the factotum would not take issue with my being there. I guess Vale had not gotten full permission for this venture. Still, I found it interesting and informative and we parted after I gave my thanks for his time. I ..think... I prefer company with the man 'off-duty' than 'on-duty' however. The Harmonium guard duty is not for me.

The red hair of a tiefling, the robe of that red-eyed man to lift and a hat feather belonging to one elf did tempt her. But not the candy offered in the palm of the one who had threatened to 'cut out her tongue' once before. "I am just trying to make friends" he'd said. But she was not that daft, scatty, but not daft. One darker elf gave her reason to emit tiny snort. There was real threat in that ones eyes, hard voice. Spider lover. No no..Piri would not go near that one...unless she was really bored.
"BAM!" she cried out as her little axe sliced into the bark of a treant. "TIMBER!" shouted the large knight Elijah as the wood creature fell on being hit by his huge sword. Together they saw off unseelie dryads and shambling mounds. After 'playing' in the Beastlands they parted and she buzzed through the portal back towards the bazaar again.
The yellowskin was there selling things. 'Karath'rok', Naya had told her the name of the gith and she approached him and they showed each other their wares. In conversation, it came out that he was a craftsman....a 'teacher'...she was already apprenticed to the dwarf for potion making but....perhaps there was opportunity for mutual profit with the gith for the crafting she wanted to do to become the "best of the best of the best, with added sparkle". As apprentice, the gith Karath told her, he might spend a little to keep her out of trouble as an "investment". What she 'really' wanted was a pretty robe, but she had seen nothing of interest yet. She was not going to sell her little axe to him and was not open to sell the wicked short sword either just yet in exchange for the leather armour that 'would have to do'. And so offered him instead one bottle of her second batch of love potion and five bottles of any other potion he fancied that she could make once she had bought her cauldron and spoon...
She buzzed off then after giving him a swift peck on his 'yella cheek' which sealed the deal....on her part at least.

I think on the four I've met in Sigil that are closest and of my feelings towards them.
One has more than he realises though the shutters frequently come down between us. I sense something similar, familiar and yet as soon as I tentatively feel it and reach out hesitantly...it is gone, hidden once more and I withdraw again myself. I listen, heed warnings, agree on what is practical for safety. But...there is something in me also that wants to break free from these bonds, find the courage, the strength to uncover and deal with what ever doing that might bring.
Another brings promise of new friendship, of a kind I have not experienced before...I cannot really count the imp. A rough exterior hides what I think could be a precious gem but time will tell. In exchange for a little company and basic meal, a favour was sought and agreed upon. Nothing dangerous, nothing untoward and only if that person were willing. A sharing of an experience....a recording of an experience once I am joined to the Society, one that I am unlikely to feel for myself for a long time...if ever. It was a mutual arrangement that left me satisfied and hopeful.
I showed both these persons to a place of beauty and relaxation that is the beach close to the portal on Thalasia. I encouraged them to take off boot and enjoy the simple pleasure of feeling sand between their toes and a paddle in the warm waters. Both are 'locals' of the Cage, neither had seen this plane or the sea before I think nor enjoyed its gifts. I took quiet delight in watching them. I found and gifted the one with a sea shell. A mistake on raising face to the sun, allowing my hood to slide back caused the one to exclaim and wonder - the reaction exactly what I've been taught to avoid all these years - although this did not feel threatening. The other, the more reserved, noted but said nothing, thankfully and I quickly slipped the hood back over my head.
The other two in my thoughts are complete opposites in some respects and yet both I feel safe with. One full of passion and strength, prone to strong emotion in all the aspects I have seen so far. When accompanying this one, I feel my own humanity come to the fore and I lose hold on some of those emotions myself; joy of battle, lust to deal harshly with the evils of the hells or the abyss, sorrow on seeing a wounded companion, and...something else that I cannot put my finger on...and they are forced out...I cannot say I mind. I find it...refreshing, releasing.
And the fourth? I cannot call that one 'friend' exactly as of yet. But that person's apparent neutrality and acceptance of all around makes this one the most...unthreatening to me. A stoic calmness, keen skill and easy companionship...I grow to like. That..and the move to apprentice the imp will keep her out of my hair and out of trouble...I hope.

I found myself drawing my own 'rune' in that place...some abandonned cave deep in the recesses of the plane known as the Abyss. It was marker. A promise to return.
I started the shape slowly, the tip of my scythe catching the hard rock and scraping a deep groove, bringing it round and ending up being a circle of a foot in diameter. No one really noticed or made comment which was fine by me. I had not intended to make circle, not sure what I intended, but there it was...that personal vow...
"Naya'il was here"
...and will return...again..and again..and again...until your numbers dwindle and I no longer need to retreat to safety of this cave. Nor will you find respite here yourselves now that I have marked this place...with this symbol...of the sun.

New party at wererats....Piri want to go play.....not attend to 'duty'...she'll be fine...she getting 'friends' to look out for her.....myeah...will tell Unca Theo and and the winged lordie its all going fine....myeah...
Mighty Mage and Kukri Kaite...finding books and scrolls and slicing and dicing ratties....weeeeeee! Left or Right? which way...BOTH! fun fun fun! One powerful spell cast on the offchance....worked! Fab! Huge rattie stuck in place, no moving, crushed by invisible hands, a Mighty Mage's spell, Kaite's Kukris and the little axe...weeeeeeee down you go...bam!....lots of goodies to pick up....oh oh...pack too heavy again...
