The Hounds
They're barking, the Hunting Hounds, at the edge of one's mind their eerie wail rings. Those hounds, used by Mir's ancestors for billions of years to hunt mortal and immortal prey, she can hear their calls as they round up their prey, and see them lurking between the planes in the very moment where time does not exist, in the dimensionless state of existence which would make a mundane mind crack and wither, even a god to cry “foul! This cannot be!”
What do they do here, is a mystery to her. And how they got here, is a mystery rivaling the previous one...

Moving Mountains, Melting Layers
Mir greeted Khazeet and ordered her usual Gehennan Fiery, settling then to lean against the bar counter to gossip with the barkeep. For a reason or other Khazeet had a smug grin on his face this time, the reason becoming clear soon enough after Revome and Van'ar'ien joined to form a gossip ring with Mir and Khazeet – something had laid waste to the forces at Pazunia in a scale large enough to make the baatezu and tanar'ri halt their bloodwar for a while, a while that wouldn't last forever however. Both sides of the war were looking for someone from outside to sort the mess out. Which side to choose tho, was the question.
“Heads, tanar'ri, tails for baatezu”, Mir stated and took a coin to toss while glancing between Van'ar'ien and Revome, who both seemed to agree with it. She flipped the coin in the air and it landed heads down. “Seems it's time to deal with the devils...”, the coin dictated.
The trio headed to Minauros to meet with a representative of the baatezu not far away from the portal to Sigil, struck a deal with the cornugon and took heading next into Pazunia of Abyss.
The familiar cave with entrance to the battlefields was not quite so familiar as before; it had experienced a near cave-in recently. Boulders were strewn everywhere and droplets of magma oozed from the far corners of the ceiling. And outside the scenery was even more dismal, having seemingly been torn apart by something truly massive and powerful, rivers of magma diverted by its passing. It was more than clear that whatever had traversed the land had general trajectory toward the mountains in the horizon. Bloodwar had resumed partially since the whatever-it-was passing, but it was nowhere near the normal scale, being just a small skirmish here and there.
The trio didn't get far, however, as the bridge rumbled, the ground before them cracked and an enormous set of pincers broke through the ground with an ear-splitting screech. Something huge with mandibles big enough to bite two hezrous in half at once surfaced. Revome charged at it while the other two peppered it with both spells and musket pellets. Tough as nails the creature might've been, but eventually it got overpowered and slain.
Aside the obvious, being a gigantic beetle, the three didn't know what exactly they had just slain. After studying the carcass a while, Van'ar'ien soon explained that the creature had been a mere infant.
The quad had two choices, one of them a shortcut up the mountains along the gargantuan trail, but which likely was teeming with the giant beetles; the other route was longer but definitely easier, just a matter of wading through the battling fiends. Revome suggested a coin flip to which Mir and Van'ar'ien agreed whereas Chari decided to go wherever the others were heading to. Mir took a coin and flipped it into air, “heads for the scenic route”, and nabbed the coin mid-air with heads up, “and scenic it is.” The other three nodded chuckling when Revome said, “can always rely on chance to give ya the best route.”
Going through the fiendish forces went with the usual ease until the quad came at the base of their destination mountain, the area eeriely quiet – the usual sounds of warfare and fiendish violence absent. Mir and Chari noted something odd about the mountain itself, it seemed larger than usual, with ridges and peaks where before there were none.
Chari studied the mountainous scenery, “It looks like... breathing.” Mir winced, “I'm having regrets about the contract...”
As they got closer, they all begun to see what was breathing. It was truly massive – mindnumbingly large – the rubble of entire towns and buildings wedged into the crevasses of its hide.
And then the plan was put into action. Van'ar'ien rummaged frantic through his spellbooks, thanking the gods that he had copied every spell he had ever seen. Meanwhile Mir eyeballed the killzone, relaxing in preparation to unleash her powers in their full fury. And soon Van'ar'ien got his spells in order and begun the show, the air crackling with channeled energies as the duo flung a spell after spell into and at the ground beneath their colossal victim.
The process was slow but sure. The Devastation Beetle, as Van'ar'ien had it called earlier, became thoroughly wedged into a massive crack in the mountainside, the earth heaving and cracking around it as it struggled to free itself. Its cries called in more of its children, and a fight was going on as Revome and Chari protected the magi duo who had their hands full otherwise.
Mir shut her eyes and ears from the outside world, seeing nor hearing anything else but the task at hand and weaving her magic in perfect harmony with Van'ar'ien. For better or worse, the gargantuan creature would either swim or sink now, spells almost exhausted. Mir flung a finalizing hit with Meteor Swarm... and then noticed the raging roar of the Balor which was racing toward her and Van'ar'ien.
Fighting Balors was one thing when prepared, but now, almost exhausted it was a task with next to impossible odds. Chari had fallen, Van'ar'ien fell, so did Revome, and finally Mir herself – not a single bit of energy left. But so did fall the fiends, and the landscape fell silent... silent until much of the landscape shattered around the quad and the gargantuan creature got drawn into the void between Pazunia and the next layer... Somewhere, deep in Abyss, one Layer or other was about to receive a big, very big, surprise. Contract was fulfilled to the letter and Mir let the sweet darkness overwhelm her exhausted mind and body.
The quad was found later by the forces of the original trio's "employer", out of commission though alive.

- “We're looking for its mommy I'm afraid”, Van'ar'ien gulped.
- “Ye shittin' me, right?”, Mir inquired blinking, almost in unison with Revome's statement of “You fookin' kidding me?”
- “I wish I was”, Van'ar'ien muttered.

- “That's... a little too big”, Chari noted.
- “The others at the tower will think I'm shitting them...”, Van'ar'ien uttered with his jaw dropping.
- “Well, clearly we not gonna kill it from out here”, Revome stated.
- “. . .”, Mir sighed and sat down on a rock, gazing at the more-than-immense creature, her mind racing to find a solution to the gigantic dilemma ahead.
- “Mir, can you mind control the creature?”, Chari asked.
- “...It's a bug... No”, Mir replied and shook her head.
- “We could remove the ground below it, and let it fall off the layer”, Van'ar'ien suggested.
- “Enslave it and make it burrow its own chasm?”, Mir asked, but dropped the idea right away as Enslaving would have required a quad of casters and there was right at the moment just her and Van'ar'ien.
And then the plan was put into action. Van'ar'ien rummaged frantic through his spellbooks, thanking the gods that he had copied every spell he had ever seen. Moon, Battle, Oblivion
...just after leaving Khaz's, Mir's eyes were clouded by darkness, as if her lids had shut with oncoming sleep. It was no sleep however. When her eyes cleared she was standing somewhere else. A moment of looking around reveals the Tangerine Queen, Alice, in full speed flight, her crew, something a hundred or so strong running around the deck, shouting and brandishing weapons. The crew, they seemed faded, as if shadows or echoes of their former selves. All of the huge deck ballistas, all of the cannons and all of the rapid-reload rift ripper arbalests were all firing at something far away.
Alice had apparently taken a lot of damage but it was still faring much better than the other 'jammers, one of which just then creaked and groaned under incredible stress and snapped in half, scattering the crew all around and then to fall toward the living sphere.
Mir drew a sharp breath at the sight of it all and rushed headlong to the helm, the helm which was designed just for her and her alone, and seated herself on the ruby throne of it. Her eyes shut, fingernails gripping the armrests as she hurriedly called forth the true controls of the ship within her mind.
The ship seemed to audibly sigh at her presence, as if it was being embraced by a lover, a soft gasp issuing in Mir's mind – Alice heard her, loud and clear, as always. Mir relaxed somewhat and united with Alice's mind. Not wasting time to locate where exactly they were at the moment she urged the arcane engines to open a rift simply straight ahead, as long a route as the energy reserves just allowed.
The ship shuddered and tried to peel away from the irresistible gravity of the chasing sphere. It groaned and rocked, the engines flaring brighter than a sun for a while. The massive mouthlike chasm at the southern hemisphere of the moon sized entity gaped... and then the crew screamed in panic – the engines shut down, just when Alice was about to get away!
Mir fell silent, Alice fell silent, and the crew screamed. The ship listed majestically slow, turned toward the gaping maw of destruction, and begun to fall toward the waiting chasm. And then Mir screamed, out of frustration, rage, and distress – feelings which Alice shared all alike...
...and just then Mir awoke suddenly, screaming on the floor of the marketplace and about scaring Sif senseless by doing so. The scream died in the moment when Mir's mind registered the surroundings. Jall arrived a heartbeat later, rubbing herself from ash and spores, sending a glance between Mir and Sif, who stared almost scared at Mir. Mir groaned and shut her eyes, sitting up from the cobblestones, then gritted her teeth and stood up, eyeing first Sif, then Jall, and then Vyrgoth, all the while dead silent.
. . . it was up there somewhere, The Great Hunger, approaching, growing... unstoppable?

- “Captain! It's coming closer! What are your orders?!”, one of the crewmen shout asked shouting from Mir.
- “Incoming!”, yelled someone somewhere else.
- “What's going on?”, Mir inquired frowning, perplexed, and leaped into air to take a look at what exactly the crew was firing at.
- “What's going on? Did you get hit in the head? The enemy is almost upon us! If we don't figure out a way to stop it, it will swallow us whole!”, the crewman in front and now below Mir shout back to her.
Alice had apparently taken a lot of damage but it was still faring much better than the other 'jammers, one of which just then creaked and groaned under incredible stress and snapped in half, scattering the crew all around and then to fall toward the living sphere.

- “Eh... did something happen?”, Sif asked eventually and got an odd glance from Jall.
- “Need to sit?”, Jall asked in turn from Mir.
- “No... I need to go see that Alice's fine”, Mir said and shook her head, taking heading to Alice's dock right away.
- “Sorry...”, Sif muttered after Mir, who more or less ignored everything at the moment.
- “Alright, am coming with you”, Jall hollered and dashed after rapidly pacing Mir, soon to be followed by Vyrgoth.
- “C-captain? How did you know we were freed? We haven't had time yet to send a word even!”, one of the crewmen wondered.
- “...freed”, Mir mumbled and eyeballed Alice's hull from stern to bow, “but is everything fine otherwise too”, and then relaxed, “...freed, now, that's the best news I've heard in a while.”
- “I watched the Gith ship go, it looks like they met up with a bigger armada”, the crewman continued.
- “Did you catch why the worry?”, Mir asked.
- “No, I couldn't understand the language itself”, the crewman replied.
- “Oi there, you lazy layabouts! Stop standing like a statue and pick up a mop and bucket and start swabbing!”, one of the crewmen shout to Jall and Vyrgoth, and promptly shoved a bucket toward both.
- “Well, you might as well give a hand – the gith made a mess”, Mir said to Jall while pacing across the deck onto the ship's bridge.
- “Hi Alice”, Mir greeted the girl which was the ship, “I got worried...”, she continued and joined her mind with Alice's, letting her sense what she had went through a bit earlier, “...but I'd like to hear what happened here, what made the gith depart so abrupt.”
- “The words moon, battle, the words oblivion... lots of fear in their words”, Alice finally stated.
- “...so, that is to be their fate...”, Mir sighed frowning and stared up at the ceiling, pondering, uttering then a few words which rang throughout the ship, “Jall, Vyr, mind come to the bridge...”
. . . it was up there somewhere, The Great Hunger, approaching, growing... unstoppable?

Musical Studies
With a bit of example and help from Amir, Mir continued her music practices – this time with Amir's own perfectly tuned lute instead of the rather strange sounding instrument Mir had fooled around with before. And indeed, for practice purposes the bard's tool was much better, good enough even for Mir's highly critic pet birds who refrained from causing a noisome ruckus like which they did when Mir was trying to play something with the antiqued Spectral Lyrist's Lute she had acquired...

Thieves, Bloody Thieves! (as per Sepultura; "Roots, Bloody Roots")
Somewhere, along the streets of Sigil, a woman with crimson wings paces - a voice, beautiful but intense, singing thoughts aloud with sharpness of an obsidian crystal knife.
Would you mind if I hurt you?
Understand that I need to
Wish that I had other choices
Than to harm
But then, what have you done now?
Yes, I know I'd better stop trying crying
There's no denying
I won't show mercy on you now
You know, what have you done now?
Would you mind if I killed you?
'Cause you have
Turned into my worst enemy
I will not fall, won't let it go
You realize, what have you done now?
Thieves, Bloody Thieves!

Lady Cecilia Hawcroft's Spellbook
Mir wandered home, which resided somewhere on a plane called Karasuthra, while a number of things swirled in her mind. A duo of birds, her pets, circled somewhere among the trees and as usual probably planned some mischief. She sent a glance at Hjyng's dark form which hovered above a gleaming white marble building below it, and then waded into the building, a layer of wards brushing her wings as she passed through the front door.
Mir laid down a bag from her sleeve onto a thick mahogany table in her study, and with a flick of a wrist flipped the bag over – a book, and a chunk of rock and dirt landing on the table with a loud 'thunk'. She eyed the book a while and then headed into kitchen, to make herself some tea.
After getting the tea done, which took a while as she had to rekindle the slumbering fire elemental which orchestrated the cooking process, she returned to her study, plopped on a couch and started examining the book's warding enchantments. The book, spellbook of Lady Cecilia Hawcroft, who once was an accomplished evoker and one of the recently murdered vampires, was heavily warded. Mir sighed softly humming, in one hand a tea cup, the other's fingers running across the woven layers of magic. It was going to take time, but she was in no hurry, and thread by thread she begun untying the knots and strings of Weave around the book...

Joining
Later in her study she gazed upon one of the scrolls, the latest she acquired and not yet joined – one of the many dozen before it to come to her, history unfolding. She tapped it against her forehead, musing, listening the choir – which for her, sang in unison, but any other than her such would've driven mad right there. The reality rippled around her like it was a two-dimensional surface, the scroll's touch on her forehead sending an ever expanding ring across the layers, forming a tidal wave somewhere else...
She had spoken a partial truth at bazaar. The full truth, however, wasn't for anyone else – not for the rekindlers of a flayed god, not for the Tharizduns, not for anyone else at all but herself alone.
- “What do you do with them?” someone asked from Mir later after they had overheard her offer for a Mnemur scroll.
- “Nay a thing. Listen, learn”, was Mir's short and for most part true answer.

Observations, Ground Zero
See it, feel it, hear it, be it. Multiverse unfolding like a waking rose – a peculiar feeling, and even more peculiar sight in itself. A whisper in the dark, a pearl of water falling... slowing until barely moving – Time fades, ends and begins at the same moment – the whisper of the water pearl's fall onto the flat dark surface turns into a screaming explosion. A rush, and stillness, in the same beat between seconds where time does not exist. Re-establishing one's existence, such an exhilarating sensation.
Mir gasped, lungs reforming, and then fell on her knees, groaning, her form gradually regaining structure and shape. Explosion of Alice's core had torn a rift between near infinite number of planes, shattering the ship, scattering the crew, tearing Mir herself into equivalently myriad pieces.
Hours passed while she remained still and before she took a look at her whereabouts. She sighed relieved in the perpetual twilight that was Hjyng's interior and clambered on her feet. Something was off... her balance was off – she stretched and then realized that her wings hadn't reformed – they were still gone.

- "Always something", she thought, but didn't really put much thought past that to it.

Strange Days?
Mir never intended it nor thought such possible to even happen, but it struck swift and sneaky – she fell in love with a mortal boy. And not just that, for she soon found herself a mother-to-be for his child. Aside those things – not that she wasn't already rich to begin with, she anyway became, again, busy in growing her monetary fortune.
