((OOC: away from a pc for a month or two so I suppose my resurfacing rp needs will have to be met here :p my dreams have been oddly nwn2 filled and haven't been helping my cravings))

Udag's story began a long time ago, in a cemetary whose inhabitant's names and legends have failed to stand the test of time. One mausoleum held the remains of a number of martyrs of Ilmater. Above this mausoleum Udag was tasked with gaurding their bodies as they slept eternally. He was commissioned by the church of Ilmater and sculpted in odd resemblance to the crying god himself.

His body bent awkwardly over the mausoleum entrance, twisting unnaturally in stone to watch any who would enter the tomb. His arms were of unequal length, one short and holding the weight of his body while the other reached out to deter any would be tomb-raiders from raiding tombs. A leg dangled goofily off the side of the mausoleum, talons scraped against the stone tomb. The other leg hunched against the gargoyle's chest, ready to pounce at a moment's notice.

It was here Udag would await his fate, the protective statue serving little purpose other than decoration for decades....

((OOC: Will continue the story of Udag below, I'm writing this on mobile so I suppose each post will be like a quicksave just to avoid any unwanted erasures of Udag's story))

...Unfortunately for Udag, his malformed body had brought him slight fame. Servants of Ilmater, normal folk who believed in the God's powers and messages, as well as those lost or suffering found themselves paying respects to the statue and Udag subsequently grew in popularity and notoriety as a vessel through which prayers could be answered. Yet, as his fame grew, individuals with more nefarious and independent agendas would set their sights on the hallowed entity.

Before the wind and rain had even a chance to erode the statue, a nameless wizard decided he would test his power by animating Udag as a loyal gargoyle protector. And so, one quiet night the wizard set out on his quest to capture the statue for his own purposes. The wizard arrived at the mausoleum on a stormy night, the cemetary abandoned by all but the resting inhabitants. Spells were cast to crudely sever Udag's body from his perch, the statue falling violently to the mausoleum steps. Thunder rattled even the bodies resting six feet deep in the ground. Lightning cast flashes of light on the nefarious wizard's path. The rain fell harder than it had in generations and the wizard was sure he would be swept away in a flood.

By the time dawn broke through the clouds, and the thunder and lightning gave way, the wizard had returned to his abode. He set about preparing for the ritual to animate the stone totem as he shivered in his wet state. His teeth clattered as he began chanting, and he sneezed and sniffled throughout the whole ritual.

Little did he know, attempting to animate a statue and suffering from near hypothermia are two magics that don't mesh well...

...Day would turn to dusk as the ritual reached its precipice. Chanting -- as well as the occasional sneeze and sniffle -- filled the ancient, dainty, rundown tower the wizard called home. The last light of day filled the tower and the last words echoed out of the wizard's mouth, followed promptly by a sneeze and sniffle. The ritual was complete and the wizard slumped back against the stone wall with exhaustion. He approached the creation, only to find his gargoyle half-baked and in intense pain. Udag cried out as newborn children do, the ritual only animated his longer arm and head while the rest of his body was still stone.

In his intense pain, the gargoyle weeps for days while the wizard attempts to numb his creation. Eventually, Udag runs out of tears and blood trickles down his face from his malformed tear ducts. The wizard, being no healer or even a decent animator, has no luck numbing Udag's pain or fixing his half-baked creation. But, it was not Udag's fate to be the servant of this wizard, and everyday he would cry out to Ilmater in the hopes that his suffering would not be eternal.

For three long years Udag served the wizard, and never once did he attempt to harm him for what he did. Loyal to a fault, the gargoyle could not fathom harming his master. Yet, everyday he would beg the wizard to fix him while bloody tears trickled from his face. For three long years, while the wizard reassured Udag he was searching for a way to end the gargoyle's suffering, Udag would continue to pray behind the wizard's back to Ilmater.

The wizard, who had been lying to Udag about trying to fix him, was actually involved in a very torrid affair with a local princess and spent no time at all worrying about Udag and all his time worrying about the princess. One day, when the wizard was preparing to ask the princess to take him as her husband, Udag's prayers would finally be answered...

...It was a sunny Toril morning as the wizard awoke to the pleasant chirping of birds outside his tower. He was adorned in the finest silk robes he could find, and jewelry hanged from every part of his body that could be accessorized. Today was the day he would propose his love to the princess and whether or not the princess wanted to agree, there was little she could do to say no. For the wizard held great power over the princess's father's mind. Through years of trickery and spells and careful orchestration the wizard was ready to wield his power and insert himself as royalty. But, destiny had no intention of allowing his nefarious plan to succeed, and as he was preparing himself for the journey, Udag heard a voice call out over the sky for him to hear alone.

"Plans planned are halted by pieces prayed,
Days no longer will you be chained,
Against your will, wizards played,
Parallel plots, one must be breaked.

What once was half shall be made whole,
And the baker of halves must pay his toll.

Rise, o' ye servant of none but he,
Whole in mind, body, and feelings be,
Suffer you will, but no longer for he,
Ilmater has answered your prayers, and come unto thee"

...As the last words echoed across the sky, Udag was reprieved and rejoiced in his newfound freedom. He was no longer held back unnaturally from harming the wizard. The wizard, so focused on his appearance and princess, would not notice Udag's heavy steps towards him. The wizard's chanting drowned out the sound of Udag's stone feet as he fabricated a portal through which he could step directly and creepily unannounced into the princess's bedchamber.

As the portal materialized, Udag grabbed both the wizard's arms. The wizard let out a shriek, the portal fizzing and crackling with uncertainty as it sits -- rather ironically -- half-baked in front of the wizard and his former slave. Udag would scuffle with the wizard, unacustomed to his new and whole body. Finally, he would have the wizard where he wanted him. Udag's back faced the portal as he placed his previously hunched leg against the wizard's back, and held his arms back and began to pull.

The wizard would scream in pain as joints snapped and ligaments were torn apart by the vengeful gargoyle. With a disgusting squelch, the wizard's arms would break from his torso while Udag fully extended his leg and kicked the armless wizard to the ground. Like a newborn fawn or elephant however, Udag stumbles in his freed body and with an elegant spin he tumbles face-first through the portal.

He'd awaken in an unfamiliar city, and catch glimpses of hooligans running off with the wizard's arms which Udag carried through the portal. It was here Udag's journey would truly begin, and a monster would be given a chance to prove himself not monstrous but benevolent in Ilmater's name...
