It had been a couple of years since he had been back in the Cage. Years spent back home building his empire and solidifying networks with the Merkhants. His business interests in Sigil had waned and that prompted his return. The Cartel was dead and gone and that suited him fine. Less baggage.
Charles awoke with light coming through the large window in his Apartment Bedroom. What time of the day it was, was anyone's guess at this point. He rubbed his eyes and began to take stock of the situation.
He propped himself up on his elbows and looked about the room, squinting as he did. The first thing he noticed was the headache that currently ravaged his head. 'Gods', he thought to himself as he rubbed his forehead. Hangovers seemed to get worse the older you got. Second thing he noticed were the two ladies passed out in his large bed. A young Tiefling on his right, wearing little more than a spiked collar and a few piercings here and there, and a human to his left, tattoos covered her arms and torso in various designs and depictions.
"Oh yeah..." he idly said and sat up the rest of the way, groaning slightly as he did. The two ladies we much younger than he, maybe twenty years old. He figured that was why his body hurt so damn much. After a moment of thinking back to the night before, he finally crawled out of bed and stretched loudly. The two girls groaned slightly at the noise but neither really awoke. They simply curled deeper into the large bed, hiding from the invading light and unwanted noise.
He walked over to the table in his room and scratched his bare ass while looking out the window. Another day in the cage... a far cry from the comforts of home but a lot more fun. he opened a cedar box on the table and took out a small vial. pouring a slight amount out on the silver tray in front of him and then turning the small pile into two thin lines. A small bamboo tube in hand, he quickly snorted the two lines in quick succession.
BAM! His hand slapped down on the table as he shook his head and arched it towards the ceiling. "Damn!" he called out "Woo!... what a rush" quickly followed. The sudden noise awoke his two guests who sat up slightly and smiled at him through half closed eyes. He cut up a couple more lines and brought over the tray to the girls who each took one for themselves. That Nokomis woman could sure crank up a fine batch, he thought to himself as he settled down in between the two now fully energized girls.
He knew he had some important meetings that day, one with a factor and another with his law team. He'd make it but he'd ensure he also made as much of the day as possible. It can't all be business can it?
Life in the cage was never boring...

Several days had passed for Charles but they had been very productive days. He sat in the office he was renting from one of his Lawyers, a glass of Brandy on the desk and several papers and ledgers also scattered on the top of the desk. His store and office had been closed up for renovations. They were going to take some time so he had to relocate until they were completed. It was a bit of an inconvenience having his store closed and his office and apartment in two different locations, but he would carry on as required.
Over the last week he had accomplished much. He had made deals or solid relationships with at least three Factors, had greatly improved the security and attention of his business files within the Fated, had started the renovations of his home and business, had successfully gotten a cut of more of the drug trade in the Hive and had set the stage for a possible major expansion of Consortium business within the city. These were just the events of note amongst many others that occurred.
Add to that the upcoming debate about removing the Harmonium from the Market and he was feeling great. It was time to reach out to his brothers and sisters within the League. If their allies in the council were successful, theyÂ’d need a plan.

It had cost him 20% of the Consortium but the deal went through. The agreement to supply the Foundry would double his raw material imports into the city and put him on par with many of the other notable merchant companies that did business here. It would raise his reputation in both the Merkhants and in TradeGate and increase his pull in both places. It was a win for him and his company. He had his assistant working overtime to purchase more gear and hire more porters. The Consortium had just become a Merchant power in the cage.
