The story so far

History

Nothing lives in memory the day before the Master came. A young Umberling awakes to the sounds of battle. An Illithid slaving party had arrived at his tribal cavern home, deep in the Underdark. Hissing cries of pain, cracking Umber shells, the squishing sound flesh makes when crushed under Umber fists. The small Umber tribe was no match for the Illithids with all their dark servants, Driders, Beholders, Drow and even other Umberhulks.

Through the chaos of the fighting the young Umberhulk found himself close to a young Illithid, not many years older than the Umberling himself, between them, only one Drider warrior. The Umberling lauched himself from hiding into the fray, towards the Illithid lord-ling. The Drider's head, for being in between the Umberling and his target, found itself quickly pulverized into pulp. Now mere seconds from the Illithid they made eye contact for the first time.

Seeing the spray of blood from what used to be his drider bodyguard, had caused the young mindflayer to turn his head towards the commotion.
,
"Halt!" a voice inside the Umberling's head bellowed. With no reason for knowing why he stood frozen mere inches from the face of his would be victim. They both stood there for a while gazing into each others very beings. The Umberling felt something like tendrils writhing through his very brain, searching, probing.

Then pain, as he awoke from his trance to find a Drow dagger sticking out of a chink in his chiton armor wedged between his shoulder and arm. The umberling turned and punched clean through, the would be Drow assailants head.

With that he heard a low evil chuckle from within his own mind, then a voice telling him to sleep. A voice he would later hear his entire life... In the midst of his tribes slaughter the young Umberling fell asleep.

He awoke deep within a Illithid lair, to the dim sight of his new Master sitting in front of him. As he tried to get up he realized he was chained to the wall. Thick shackles clamped over his wrists , feet, neck and mandibles, attached to equally thick chains mounted deep into the cavern wall.

"Do you hear my voice?" The words seemed to erupt from the Umberlings very skull, as the Illithid's mouth never moved. "Yes" the Umberling answered in a chittering Umndercommon. "You needn't answer me you mouth, I can hear you as you hear me." The young Master stated. "You will be my first, The great brain has commanded me to take a thrall". "You will live in the fighting pits and slaughter my ememies for me, through your battles I will learn of fighting, do you understand?" Before The Umberling could answer, "Never mind it doesn't matter, you will do it anyway". With those words The umberling felt such a presence in his mind he knew then he would never be able to refuse his new young Master anything.

Years passed as they must, though time itself is difficult to tell in the Underdark. The Umberhulk now grown had become his Master's favorite "pet". He distroyed many creatures and prisoners in the fighting pits, as well as many of the favoured pets of other Masters. This pleased his Master most as he could show is prowess over his thrall in such battles. This the Umber knew because when a thrall fights even as it lives and breaths, it always feels the presence of its Master with him guiding his actions. Since these two were placed together at such a young age the bond became quite symbiotic instead of completely dominating. The Umberhulk may as well have been born as the Master's own hands himself. During his many fights the Umberhulk earned the monikers of 'Mindbreaker, mage-eater, the fists of bone, and the big beetle'. Though never earning a true name from his master

As the body pile and the scars grew to numerous to count, the Master's voice rang out in the Umber's head "Come to me pet". With those words the chains disintegrated off The umber like grains of sand. The umber walked unbothered out of the fighting pits towards his Master's home.

"I have a name, did you know?" The Master's voice echoed. "Yes", replied the Umber, "you are Xaul Vohs". "Yes" the Master replied, "I have a name because I have great work to do, now you must do great works for me". "As such I name you 'Xitchak' from now until the end of your days, you shall be my bodyguard and the first among all my pets". With that the Master reached forth his hand and touched Xitchak's face. Then Xitchak watched as a beetle tattoo crawled down his master's wrist and slowly onto his own carapace. "A gift, a little beetle, for the big one".

His master then strode out of his house and out to the cavern's entrance... to the Underdark. Xitchak without hesitation followed. For where the Master goes Xitchak must always follow. Through danger, the unknown, and one such adventure eventually to Sigil, the city of doors.

~For the Master, always for the Master, we are always together~
