Entry 1
So, I picked up this book thing at the Bazaar. Got it cheap off one of them Indep sods. Had this idea, that I'd write down this stuff. You know, so I don't forget. And maybe if I get some skirt to plop out a wee-sod or two the git might read it one day. Learn a thing or two.
Oh yea, my first day of duty. Learned my rounds in the prison. Some good lessons to.
Prisoner acts up, beat 'em. Prisoner starts smilin' beat 'em. Prisoner cries, beat 'em. Talks, beat 'em. Etc. Pretty simple stuff.
But what made me want to write in this raggy-bit was a particular prisoner I saw. Some thief, tiefling skirt. Probably a greenskirt on the side, she reeks of eggs and bad fish. Anyway, berk was beggin' and sobbin' about her child or some shite. Kept askin' to see him, or get letters or whatever. So, Gavin, fellow newblood like myself got it in his head to listen to her. Sympathize and shite. Well, I wasn't gonna let that happen. Y'see, that kinda slaad shite is for people, not criminals. Criminals, lawbreakers, berks, whatever ya call 'em, they ain't people. Not like you and me.
Moment they chose to piss on someone else's life was the moment they gave up their own. they're just meat waiting for the rope, with a whipping or two in between. So, this bein' what it is, me 'n Gavin got into a bit of a tussle. Think the scrawny half-elf lost a tooth in the process. But, this damned woman starts hootin' and hollerin' and making all sorts of ruckus afterward.
So what do I do? The Lady-Damned proper thing to do. I get my whip, flogged her bloody. Filthy sod was out cold when I left, silent as a Dabus. And Lady flay me if I don't admit to feeling some satisfaction.
Hells, first day on the job, and I already done the Cage a favor. Whippin' some sense into a bloody animal. S'pity she didn't resist, coulda got her for assaultin' a ?mercykiller. Keep the bitch off the cobbles for a good few years longer. Ah well, she'll act up eventually, they all do. It's in their blood. S'why criminals ain't people like you and me.
They're all rusted in the brainbox.
