//Elsibeth is a well established character of mine, with a backstory. For those interested, i will post it here. She has been an online character of mine, for 3 RL years. Many names and details were left out, deliberately, in respect to another Server. The Sorcebooks that were used were The Forgotten Realms campain setting, The Drow of the Underdark, and the Liber Mortis: Book of Undead.

~The Beginning~

Elsibeth Drake, orginally comes from the World of Faerun. Born in the Underdark, among the Drow, raised in the city of Menzoberanzan. Elsibeth was born a Szerkai, or an "Albino Drow". Even though she was a halfbreed, she was taken from her house and trained directly by the Temple of Lloth, in matters of spying, infiltration and assasination. For only a handful of Szerkai are born each generation, and being near indistinguishable from Surface elves, they are natural spys and assasins for the Priestesses of Lloth.

For Many years, Elsibeth done as she was ordered, posing as a Half-Elf Bard. Acting as the eyes, ears, and sometimes the hands of the Spider Queen. Eventually, she recieved an order to keep watch over a Human Noble of interest to the Drow. So she infiltrated the court and never strayed far from her mark, until the day she meet his Retainer, a Human Paladin of Tyr.

The Paladin had a deep influence over her, and soon they fell in Love. For many years they traveled and adventurered, and eventually she forskae and severed all of her ties to the underdark and the drow. Living happily as a Bard upon the surface world. It was not to last however, and soon sorrow and loss became the center of her being forever.

One day while adventureing, they came across an ancient burial mound, to heros of a forgotten war long past. They entered, not to rob from the dead, but to pay their respects to champions long dead. Little did they know however, that something evil had taken root and before long they were fighting for their lives.

The Tomb Guardian was a fell foe, seemingly made of shadow and indestructable. Her love, told her to run, as he dearly sold his life to the shadowy fiend. So Elsibeth escaped, but only to shortly return with aid for her Love, but it was too late. He had perished, so that she may live. Elsibeth took his body before many priests, asking them to restore him to life. But they all said it was to no avial, that his soul was in an unreachable place, and that they were unable to restore it to his body.

And so, Elsibeth came to know sorrow and sadness, unlike anything before that had ever touched her heart. The emotions were so intense, that things like anger or hatred paled by comparison. And so, after the burial, she began to wander aimlessly, from land to land, a barely noticeable shadow to the people. Always with loss on her heels, the years became a blurr to her, and soon she faded from history and records.

But her story does not end there...

~The Gathering of Darkness~

Many years had passed. Anyone who knew of Elsibeth Drake, had long sense forgotten with the sands of time, or wasted away. But she had returned, Now reborn as a Diresinger, a Dark Bard whose songs were of sorrow, mourning and loss. During those long years of wandering, she wept. Many cold and bitter nights she wept, and cried out in augst to the gods for a reason. She asked any who would hear for a way, to anyone who would listen. And someone had heard her bitterness within the depths of the Void.

The Goddess Shar, the Maiden of Loss, heard her sorrowful plea and found it a pleasing song to her ears. So, Shar sent Elisbeth an awnser in the form of a Dream, a way to "restore" her long lost love. Shar revealed to Elsibeth, that Her lovers soul was sealed away within the Plane of Shadow, locked and enchained for all time. But there was a way to release him. But it was all a cunning lie.

It was Shar, who had taken Elsibeth's Lovers soul, and entraped it. And the dark goddess sought to dangle it, just out of reach, to make Elsibeth Dance to her dark tune. And her cunning trap ensnared Elsibeth unknowingly, and so Shar used Elsibeth as a tool to futher her own ends.

In the dream, Shar revealed to Drake, a forbidden ritual. A way, to Bind herself, with an object. Togeather they would be linked, and the link would open a gateway to the plane of shadow. Over time, the rift would seep out negative energy, but eventually the tide would carry out her Lovers soul to her, and thus they might be reunited. And so, Drake began her search to complete the Binding.

Eventually, Drake came to a distant kingdom. There she found an island, and claimed it as her own. Togeather, with the assistance of a Necromancer by the name of Morgan, they used undieing labor to construct a fortress stronghold. A dark forboding place, and they called it Gloom Keep. It was the Keep itself, within its very stones that Drake choose to bind herself to. Thus, the Castle itself was a dark beacon, corrupting everything around it with tides and ebbs of enormous amounts of negative energy. Just as Shar wanted.

Over time, Drake was declared an enemy of the kingdom she had resided within. In truth, she cared not for the destruction of the kingdom, and she did wish to harm any of its peoples, but she would not stop the binding. And as time passed, more and more of its lands became corrupted. Undead, Accursed, Shadows and Shades, and other unnamed things were drawn to it like moths to a flame, and Drake had an instinctual control over them. But even more so, was the dire effect of the Keep itself upon the creatures, empowering them to be far stronger than as could be expected. Their bones and souls saturated with energy, making them fell guardians indeed.

Two years passed, and still her lover did not return. The kingdom made many assults upon her keep, but still they could not end the binding. Eventually however, The creatures began to attack the kingdom in return, against Drakes wishes. They had become to saturated by the dark energies, many of them becomming free willed themselves, and Drake could no longer control them, or hold them to her own borders.

So Elsibeth Drake requested an audiance with the Kingdoms viceroy, to warn him of the danger now present, and to request sanctuary. It was granted, with the agreement that she would assist them in destorying the Gloom Keeps Guardians, and that she would end the Binding. Drake became aware that she had become Shar's unwitting dupe to her schemes, and so she agreed to the terms.

After months of preperation, they assulted the Keep. Elsibeth leading the Kingdoms warriors and mages deep into the hard of the castle, where even the walls of stone seemd to bend and twist in reality. There, they found the Heart of the Binding, the very core of the Keep itself. It had become an open rift, leading to the Plane of Shadow. Only from the other side, could it be sealed.

Leading them through the Rift, Drake and the Kingdoms Warriors slew many of Shar's servants, eventually freeing the soul of her lover. But deep was Shar's wrath, and she sought to close the portal, trapping all of them within her domain. And so, the warriors fled, going back to Gloom Keep, but Drake was trapped within the Plane of Shadows, too late to retreat through the quickly closeing rift. The warriors of the kingdom grieved at Drakes passing, and counted her dead or lost, and saw to her lovers soul to finally join with Tyr, as it should have done all those years ago.

But deep within Darkness and Shadow, Elsibeth Drake still lived....

~From Darkness, into Oblivion~

Deep within the shadows and shade, Elsibeth yet lived. Battered and assailed on all sides by creatures of that foul plane, Drake fought them. With sword and song, her dirges howling like a banshee made manifest. But as Shar withdrew her dark blessings, Elsibeth found herself quickly growing weaker, all her long years of exposure to negative energy taking its toll. And so she fled, though that dark mirror of all places. Eventually finding a portal and fleeing through it, finding herself in all places, in Sigil, the center of all existance.

And so, beaten and battered, greatly weakened from her experiences, Elsibeth Drake, the Dirgesinger, finds herself within the City of Sigil...
