Subject: Rysk

Magic works in mysterious ways at times. It was a chance meeting, me spending a night in some rural household, a little tabby cat wanting for attention. The cute runt decided to follow me along. Even mimicked my steps in a way, scuttling after me all regal like.

She was a cheerful and comforting companion, not like the two legged kind.
My friend Gorfnar was a druid, and he promised me to show me a new trick, when the accident happened. Rysk got in the crossfire of his Awaken spell, as she came crashing over the table.

For some time, there was no real change, she understood us and answered, but I dimissed this merely to the fact that she had attuned herself to my powers, and became my familiar. But I was dead wrong.

She mimicked my movements, her little paws swiping the air, and even repeated the arcane words that call upon the powers of the Weave. Of course I laughed, knowing that it would be impossible for her to even cast a cantrip. But as the days went by, she rigorously continued to try, and one night, to my greatest surprise, a small sphere of light appeared over her head. She actually succeeded in casting a Light cantrip. She of course, was all happy and proud of herself, sitting on her back paws, straightened up, head up high, with glimmering eyes as the littel ball of light flickered just abover her head. And the next moment, she began to paw at it, forgetting completely what she had just accomplished. That, for some reason, made me chuckle.

She continues to grow, both in intelligence and power, and here, int this strange place on the crossroads to everywhere, I can predict, that she will be the most successful apprentice I've ever had.

Subject: Tilee

As my litter grew 3 cat strong, it drew the attention of a strange girl of elven heritage. She adored my little friends as much as I did, and all three rushed to get her attention when she appeared. She seemed genuinely caring for them, despite her nature, and prowess in battle. Rysk made the final point in our trust for her, when she spoke to her. She was not alarmed, as I had hoped, but simply giggled delighted, loving the fact that she was able to converse with the kitten.

We helped each other in exploring the vast number of portals that this city sprawls, and slowly, as our strengths grew, we got accustomed in completing each others weaknesses. She was our "blocker" as she put it, holding the horde while Rysk and I laid waste to the armies, or weakening them for her to finish off.

She is a faithful and cheerful companion, fits right in with us cats.

Of Elves and Cats

Tradition, unity, confinement. These are the first things I remember, when I think of my own people. Freedom and a carefree life, is what I see as I watch Rysk paddle around next to me.

Never I had an apprentice, that wasn't trying to steal the knowledge instead of earning it the correct way. I had a few, most ended tragically, as they tried to ursurp me. But this little one. She has no concept of us bipedals, no feeling of jealousy, or the hunger for power. Even as she continues to grow, she only casts the spells for fun. She has the instincts of a predator, but lacks the concepts, that makes humans and elves alike ones to be mistrusted.

To be friends with an animal, that is something alien to most. But I think, Rysk and I are friends. Her loyalty doesn't stem from me feeding her, she stays and always stood by me on her own accord. And even if she wanders off, the moment we meet, she runs up to me, bumping her head against my robe, purring happily. It makes me smile, and I can't help but give her the caring attention she craves.

And may we be of different worlds, our fascination with the arcane proves as common ground. And the more time I spend with her, the more I understand what the humans like of their own ways. But I also know, I'd rather be a cat then a human.
