Upon Golden Wings

Praefatio
A thick green canopy stretched endlessly to an impossibly distant horizon, the eternal forests of Arvandor hiding all else of the plane from view, but for the odd clearing marking a villiage of elves or eladrin. To the east, the rocky spire of Olympus could barely be seen even with supernaturally enhanced vision, while an equal distance westward displayed the massive trunk of Grandfather Oak, bursting above the treetops to unthinkable heights. But here, high above it all, the sound of steel on steel and the flash of magicks dominated, as a mace-wielding golden-winged figure contested with a smaller being that seemed to vaccilate between the appearances of a svelte humanoid armed with a greatsword and a pulsating orb of swirling colors.
Daily sparring, thought Gryphienne, is far more enjoyable while soaring. With a fierce grin, she executed an aerial somersault, her boot slamming into the chest of her Ghaele adversary and sending it hurtling nearly fifty feet down before he could right himself, and even then only raising his blade in time to parry a strike of the heavy mace, then veering into incorporeality even as his voice called out. "Enough, Eventus! Any more of this and I'll be limping for weeks. Do we need to find a planetar for you to take your aggression out on?"
With a laugh, the deva slipped the mace into a beltloop, floating down to clasp forearms with the eladrin knight. "It's only the chance to practice with you and Lariele, Galinn, that have made me this. Come... let us return home and break fast." Turning, the two began to leisurely make their way towards the mightiest oak in existence, only to stop short as a massive brass form burst from the canopy below, eliciting a gasp from Galinn at recognizing the dragon. "Ronothere?"
"It is not for you I come, Galinn of the Ghaele. The interests of the Court of Stars and Bahamut align..." The broad head, scales still bright and shining even with millenia of age, turned to regard the Deva. "And you, Gryphienne, have been chosen. Eyes are needed in a place you are familiar with, where others cannot easily go. You must return... to Sigil."
