Dusted off the halberd, polished the shield and ventured once more down to the dank depths of the tunnels beneath the city. For a share of the spoils I offered my shield to block and protect one skinny weakling of a cowled laddie, Malus.

Afew things were of note. First, we made it to an agreement on swaps - he took the scrolls I didnae be wanting - exchanging with only a small grumble for whatever else we found and rummage to find. Gold were shared even, other items split as fairs fair. Except for a cloak he found, made me harumpf when he took it over his shoulders without asking. Still, he let me swipe the red jewel we found without piping up and he'd saved one find of a jug of ale for me. So, I let it be. I took umbrage when he seemed too easy when an ogre came up talking of cookies and seeming to want to travel with us. Had to put me foot down on that one threatening it with a halberd in the face if it didnae leave. No bloddy ogres, trolls nor orcs, nae...not on my watch and ventures.

At end of our journey, when fresher air was there to be smelling and a statue's eyes were returned - a question gnawed at me of why a statue was cheerfully whistling when its eyes were lost...afraid of the dark I reckon...and with an answer of bloddy 'magic' from the weakling had me grumbling....we parted, me to go find me some grog, he to...I didnae care what...but said I'd travel with him again some time....was alright for a human, better than a bloddy ogre at any rate.

Saw a notice in the market for a full plate of good level enchantment to the fourth tier - it were on sale by one Rita Oneira who could be contacted at the Inn. Made me mark of interest below hers on that notice. Wasnae gonnae turn my nose up at magic that empowers good plate and weapon now was I? Found her later in the outside bar, the flaming barkeep thumbed behind him and I caught her handwave. The wee lassie was sitting at a back table. Her price were reasonable, most fair, only she brought it out in pieces from a magical bag and laid them to the table. Pieces! I'd been expecting it fully made but she was a slight lassie, guess that was the only way she could be carrying it. It has been many a season since I took hammer to anvil and did any smithying. But that plate...would be worth dusting off me old hammer.

Could have done with that full plate some hours earlier when another venture down to the dank depths of sewers had me facing a couple of snake-like-beasts....already looting where I'd intended to raid. Couldnae understand them one bit, til one hissed out a word of common. Seems we had common reason and goal. They were no orc, troll or ogre, one even introduced himself as warrior Tekalsh, his mate....least I think it were his mate....hard ta tell gender in....what were it? Half yuanti...that one were named Salesh. The two, despite their slithering and hissing, seemed to show some intelligence. We agreed ta share spoils and team up, had ta be forceful to ensure the sharing was fair and upfront.

The one named Tekalsh, good warrior that one, carried a mean looking halberd that I eye-balled with interest. The other one was nifty with her?...his? bow work. Had us a hard battle a couple of times against orc, tiefling and mindflayer, each taking blow, dazzled and stunned time and time again...but we prevailed. Not gonnae say I trust them....these...snake beast yuanti, but I got to be admiring their courage and persistency...decent warrior them both, if their large trailing tails were a might tricky to avoid stomping on...must remember to remain ahead and block, take the front. I would offer me shield again to them for a fair share of the spoils. Salesh had a rosy stone for sale telling that it had some magic ability to help with defense. This place be too weird not to be accepting some magic help in battles. It were nae quite red in colour, but were near enough and took me fancy, so I did the deal.

One flaming halberd with a sharp slicing edge, that will give a good wallop and stun the foe did I acquire after a wee bit of haggling with the Fnar lassie. Put down payment on it, a few hours looting under the city and I soon had the rest.

Lassie named Kithra was spoiling for a bruising with her remarks in me tongue. Not many speak it around Sigil, so it took me orf guard a bit. She too had halberd for sale. Ended up, we 'wrassled' for it, winner to keep ownership of the weapon and to buy the other a jug of grog. Was close call, lassie had strong arms, found out too she spent a while with a clan, but a twist on a thumb had me taking her by surprise and slamming her arm back to the table. I bought her the grog anyway, both chugging it down smartly. Looks like I found me a sturdy drinking companion. I liked her manner.

Didn't like that of the gnoll I ventured with 'Rrazzak' and that Yasmine had no sense of her ability to make a joke. Tested both of us good and proper down below though, nearly ran through that gnoll thinking it overgrown bugbear. Told it ta gut a goblin before I let it join us.

Still out of pocket, but now two fine halberds to me name, a good arm wrestle and a drinking buddy. Not a bad day.

Tested the new halberd out on a lizard creature that I found out later from the librarian that they was called Khaastas. Odd thing were, the new companion joining me and that skinny laddie Malus, was also a lizard beast of some basis but held no affection or loyalty to them Khaastas. Told it..him... in no uncertain terms ta make the first kill before I'd let him travel with, even though Malus had vouched for him...too many bloddy weird creature about this City and its nearby planes to be taking risk. But so he did, gutting it cleanly and pulling out its spine. Bit gruesome but I cannae be faulting his battle skills.

We wandered through that maze then onwards to some outlands. Had to retreat and run through a canyon and saw hard fight with some spellweavers and their guardians in some ritual temple area, sitting between four dragon stone heads. Aye...they was worthy battle companions. Their lusty talk of eating Khaasta alive were a bit too gritty fer me but....otherwise, aye...I'd venture with them again.

Barmy she were! Quite out of her tree. Thars what they call the weirdos round these parts. Barmy sods. When she werent spouting rubbish and with the promise of a bit of coin from me an me new found companion Nall, sturdy lad of a dwarf from the prime same as me though didnae find out yet about his own stronghold, and from some other bint at the bar too, the barmy girl took up her lute and voice and did a decent rendition of a battle song...aye...''yer children will ne'er be slaves''... got me a tear tae eye that I had tae hide by nose divin into me ale. Gave her more'an I'd promised. Like me a good song o'er an ale, though wasnae one I could join in on.

Liked tha Nall. He's a fair laddie, solid type with a likin for the traditional usin dwarven waraxe. He didnae understand me likin of the halberd...til I told him tha thar was nothin else much left ta be takin and usin after the males had gone intae the final battle with all the axes, the women folk, wha was left of us, had ta take what was left tae defend the Deep. We shared the loot fair an square an enjoyed a sup of ale after the lootin. We found a forge down under...them bugbear be smithies!? har! was a joke, state of tha place...wonder they can hammer metal intae nowt but usable fer sewer covers. Fire was still smoulderin too. Tha smell of it brought back a few.

Thar was talk of defense an formation trainin tha had me agog an interested. No sneerin of me halberd neither, sensible solid clan leader he war offerin me access to join him an his clan. Tha Barohn laddie was forthright and sturdy an a friend of kin. Was a joy ta partake in the dwarven tongue o'er an ale. He told me tha method to reach th'portal to journey to Which Mountain should I agree ta join. Temptin, highly temptin.. he did me honour ta be offerin. Another joined us at table, Rorin, axe wielder of the famous Ironforge clan. After sharin stein an tankard, th'Rorin an I, we took ta the sewers to train. We be ten now, so the Barohn counted, an I not be alone on the female front neither, tho thar was nae enough of us lassies ta be formin a solid phalanx of female defenders, was enough ta do it in mixed formation. Would be a sight ta see!

A hefty battle, a valiant fight with honour...though had tae pay tae get it! Five hunnert gold pieces fer the chance and it were well spent. Worthy opponent can not be guaranteed in a simple bar brawl an I was bustin fer a good hardy battle tha the slither skins no longer gave tae me. Rules were set out all fair and magic words spoken - melee and combat - right up thar street of this lassie.

I held me own tae, fer a long while, caught first blood as well with the harsh blow tae his right shoulder. I took defensive stance in the end but this warrior, knew his stuff and me right was vulnerable, when shield was tae far tae left side. He caught me smack on upper arm and halberd dropped with a clang tae floor, followed up with a deft kick tae me shield and tha fell too...the laddie checked the droppins, guardin them with boot, but battle were done...victor established after fair fight, solid and rewardin. I conceded and slapped his back after pickin up me pieces.

Aye...would share a tale and an ale an another fight with tha one again...Scourge of Battle, sounds fine but I won't be followin his order....til next time the challenge be made again an I'd lay him flat tae ground with a shield push har!

I met me a handful of a clanful and it brings broad grin to me face. Two crafters, Aste and Harand. Brothers? Nae be tae sure, one of weaponery, one of armour, both goodlookin with full chin of beard. Then there be Sveni and an old face I knew as Rorin sharin roast of wolverine, plenty of battle against giants...best kind of fightin fun...with promise of tale and wrestle after...but that were not all. We had two stretched legs as surrogate clansfolk to joinin. A knuckle-fist leggy lassie name of Ayame and another...damned tae be rememberin his real name fer we called him Stretch. Both decent warrior in their own right, didnae mind them along...was grinning tae much on account of finding some more of me kinfolk.

Alright, alright...ne'er let it be said that Gerta gets friendly with orcish blood, greenskins... but....and its a small but...tha one an his friend were different from the usual. Th'one was gabbin his mouth of, spouting all sorts of nonsense but were not in argument or fightin talk, or insultin...bit of a pansy and seemed tae keen on his fashions and hats...reckon him and tha 'Princess' would get on in tha respect. Th'other was quieter, more of the thinkin type, with powerful fists. Still, they both put in tha effort and we stomped tagether with Rorin tryin ta lead....though yet again, formations were all out, same as for the clan battle th'day afore...still can't fault the laddie, he tried ta gather us, an I did an all...but me strength is in tha defendin, using shield with guts tae keep enemy from doin thar worst, not leadin out front...hm..could shout a few more orders from rear maybe...if me bellowin gets heard through the ruckus of the clan's battle...fair solid laddies they are, stout hearted, axe-armed, loud voiced, lush beards...aye...puts tear to me eyes tae see tha again.

Squirt of a kobold....be thinkin it were male as I could see a few bulgin bits to its loins, bringin odd blush to its grey cheeks as I peered tae check...offered me tae buy an endless tankard of ale. Well now...o'course I was tempted...wot dwarf wouldnae be wantin tha?....but I had sold all me gems and potions tae get tha new halberd an the one greenstone and me offerin of gold didnae give tha hagglin squirt enough tae hand over the jug. Perhaps I was a bit brusque with him, he did help me tae bring down a pair of frost giants aforehand...but thar was nowt I could do tae meet the price an he was wavin tha tankard temptation in front of me....so I might ha insulted his kobold honour or somethin...hard tae know...he ran off upset.
