Several days passed since the portal opened before the normally quiet and reserved Quinn would be seen making his way to the portal with an armload of theory paperwork and a satchel seeming to contain even more. He seems positively exuberant about the honor to see the famed library, let alone research there and was more then happy to ramble about such to any poor sod who happened to stop him on the way.
It had taken him some time to settle on a project. It had to be something reasonable and useful, but still quite fun sounding. Something he would have liked to cast in his young days perhaps? Several days of hypothetical planning had pulled together something that seemed to him to be acceptable. It should be in interesting challenge at the very least.
Upon arriving he rapid he became enamored by the sheer wonder of the library of lore. Several hours was initially lost to excitement and the sort of binge reading as only a wizard would feasibly engage in. Eventually, he set to gathering viable research material, cross referencing at least dozen pages of his theory notes for what maybe needed.
Largely for safety concerns, a laboratory with special warding to contain rogue entities was selected. A moderately sized chamber, sequestered off in some far flung corning of the library that rapidly became a veritable dragon horde of books, paperwork and magical reagents. Everything stacked or stowed in some haphazard semblance of order.
Books most frequently referenced are left open on lecterns or tables. Pages of notes and arcane theory begin to be tacked up along the walls as work begins in earnest, Discarded vellum rapidly overtaking the far corner of the room as experiments progress. Several dozen blank spell books tucked beneath one of the open tables, along with an assortment of reagents and inks seem to be the focus of most of his attention.
The information collected varied wildly. Anything from advanced summon rituals to over analyzed dissections on the mechanics of cantrips might be noticed by anyone peeking in. In particular, there seems to be a tendency toward materials relating to conjuration, animation, and levitation. Some works of Mordenkainen seem to be of particular inspiration.
Preliminary experiments were broken down into simple segments.
- Work out the algorithms for summoning a specifically marked object of both known and unknown location.
- Practice object animation techniques and determine appropriate method for later phases.
- Attempt to work out a method of autonomous activation of simple spells.
- Look into viability of command transmission by telepathic means.
With these components in mind he proceeded to bury himself in his work.
((The intent currently is to create a 5th level or lower spell to summon a sorcerer (preferably in the form of an animated spell-book of sorts) capable of casting ranged cantrips or similarly low-level magic.))

chants of boccob's library of lore and researches possibilities reach the ears of uran'sel, whom after packing her things travels again to the bazar if sigil and subtly makes her way to the portal. once there and made her presence and intention known to the hosts, she asks (or summons one herself) for an assistant able to cast all kind of status ailment effects and incapacitating spells (blindness, deafness, knocked down, stun, paralyze, poison, sleep, diseases, dazed, charmed, nauseated, dominated, drained, slowed, shaken, feared, pietrified, instant death and so forth).
she would thus go into the formulaes of spells such as superior spell mantle, death armor, bestow curse, globe of invulnerability, aiming to develop an aura cloak that makes said status alterations bounce back to the offender, as long as it stands.
problems will be:
wheter the aura will protect the user themselves from those negative effects, or if they'll have to influence the user to be mirrored back onto the aggressor;
if the aura will be able to leash back as long as it stays active or if it will break when too many spells are taken;
if the aura will be able to work against anyone who will afflict the user or if it will have to be applied in regard of a specific single enemy;
if the deflected effects will ail the aggressor always, regardless of their resistances and immunities, or not
the spell will probably be complex enough to be between 6th and 9th circle, depending on what of the points above are solvable, lasting as much as a spell mantle
when the first prototypes formulaes of the spell are sketched, Uran'sel start to try it first person, with the help of the assistant

Mareth's Research:
The first few attempts to feel out the contours of the nascent spell result in barely controlled explosions of electrical energy that would certainly have killed a being without Mareth's inherent immunity to electricity.
She would quickly discover that transmuting matter into different matter is one thing, but transmuting matter into energy is entirely different and requires a unique approach. Eventually, she does manage a transformation of sorts, though perhaps not what was originally intended. As an Eladrin, she has a great deal more experience shifting her form from matter to energy than most any other being in existence, and is thus able to merge the energy of her body as it transitions into its 'globe of light' form with the electricity created by her experiments.
What results is that she is, briefly, able to take the form of a roiling ball of raw electrical energy. While a promising step, several issues remain:
1) Would a mortal caster survive such a transformation, or even find it possible? How might she refine the theory and framework of the spell to better suit a wider casting audience?
2) Mareth can tell even from her first brief attempt that movement in such a form, while preventing the currents now comprising one's body from scattering to the winds, will require an ingenious solution...if it is even possible.
-------------------
Z'ssadra's Research:
Many of the texts Z'ssadra pours over with regards to Color Spray and Prismatic Spray, indicate that the spells have their roots in the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Radiance. Moreover, additional texts argue the notion that colors themselves have power beyond simply the metaphorical sense, especially when extracted in their pure form from the Plane of Radiance. The Color Pools of the Astral stand as one example of this, and the famous spells Prismatic Wall and Sphere stand as another.
Her study of the individual spells linked to the effects she wishes to replicate don't themselves produce any insight beyond the necromantic, illusiory and enchantment theories behind their operation.
The various effects of the individual colors produced by Prismatic Sprays and Color Sprays would be well known to her by this point. Whether she chooses to work with those colors, try to explore the possibilities of new colors, attempt to tap the raw energies of Radiance itself, or some other path is up to her discretion.

Drualtha's Research:
There seem to be a multiplicity of avenues down which Drualtha could direct her studies.
Her research into healing ailments and injuries would indicate that Divine casters achieve these goals through highly specialized conjurations of positive energy, and are guided in the productive application of this energy by their faith and practical clarity. The only Arcanists likely capable of successfully duplicating these effects in full would be those already practiced in the divine Power, also known as the ones least likely to use or need such a spell.
However, she is a transmuter and is looking for an answer anchored in that school. She might find snippets of theory here and there relating to the transformation and alteration of living beings' internal organs and tissue, but these are generally focused on crippling or killing foes, not on healing allies. Theoretically it might be possible for a highly skilled transmuter to correct the bodily ailments of another by manually transforming their organs and tissue, or else by transforming the poisons or diseases within into benign substances, but it would require extensive knowledge of healing and anatomy to properly direct such a spell without causing extensive harm in the subject.
...Theoretically being the operative word.
In her experiments with inorganic matter, she might see another path. Unlike biological beings, constructs are relatively simple in their workings and, provided the construct's magical defenses are not raised, easy to transmute, enhance or otherwise repair. Disabling or damaging hostile constructs might be possible, but would likely require further research.
As for the chickens, she succeeds with astonishing ease in innovating a self-roasting chicken, as well as a few that explode quite spectacularly, but chickens seem quite content to not be dragons for the time being.
-------------------------
Quinn's Research:
Quinn's research would quickly lead him to the conclusion that conjuring a spell-casting companion is readily achievable through simple planar bindings or summonings directed toward a well-known magically talented entity (Ursinals and Arcanaloths, for example).
Animating a spellbook with contingent-locked dweomers might be of some utility to a Transmuter, given their inability to follow the simpler course outlined above. Some points that Quinn might wish to address in further research would be:
1) What sorts of spells should the book be imbued with? (damage, mind-effecting, single-target, area-of-effect, what school etc)
2) Will the utility to Transmuters be enough to merit the spell's selection, or should Quinn tailor his invention to appeal to a broader audience?
--------------------------
Uran'sel's Research:
Creating a spell mantle of any magnitude is relatively simple for a mage of her caliber, but crafting a 'spell turning' effect of any sort seems a near-impossibility. No matter what avenue she pursues, this spell mechanic simply doesn't seem workable at this time. Presuming she wished to continue with an attempt to submit work for Boccob's review, she would have to begin again with a fresh idea.

This is an example of an idea that is not feasible/reasonable to expect of our scripters at the current time.

Mareth lingers for a time in this new form she's taken, feeling her 'body' of energy crackle
and spark. She tries to familiarize herself with this form, learn to predict what it will do, how
it strains against the spherical confines of her will, trying to free itself, to disperse into the
nearest ground. She finds herself in the unique position of ~being~ a captured lightning bolt,
and empathizing with its struggle.
It's not until Mareth tries to move that she realizes the problem with her spell. Lightning is a
chaotic force that refuses to be controlled. She should have known that, of course -- even
her normal offensive magick doesn't presume to control the lightning, electing instead to act
as a guide, priming pathways in the air, making them more suitable conductors than the air
around them, and creating a path of least resistance.
And so that is what she does. Rather than pit her will against this force of nature, she will
instead conjure a pathway of primed air between herself and one of the four copper coils in
the far corner of the room. Then she just... lets go, and allows the whimsical, natural
tendencies of electricity guide her movement down this path of least resistance. When she
connects with the coil, Mareth will try to pull away from the electricity, and if all goes well,
a Mareth-shaped wisp of bluish-white Eladrin energy would return to solid form next to the
now-charged copper coil.

Seemingly satisfied with the initial results of animated books, The following few days become devoted to extensive theory craft. The supply of research books finds itself largely depleted, most of the books having been returned to the shelves of the library proper. This in turn opens significantly more room to the expanding pile of discarded parchment, as well as freeing up space to test in.
A few of the more stable test objects from the early experiments are left to their own devices, fluttering about together behind magical containment barrier. Most of these are primed with simple light, flare, daze, or resistance cantrips, no more then one or two of each per subject. He periodically checks on them during this period to determine the average duration of each animation. Observations are also recorded regarding the behavior of each book. This mostly involved which spells tend to be triggered autonomously, how often and under what circumstances.
Deciding he needs more information before a particular use can be set, testing is conducted to determine the plausible limits on what a given animated object can handle and remain functional, as well as a better understanding of which spells will trigger as intended.
Phase two of experiments commences in two parts.
The first part involves a stress test of the spell. The primary concern seems to be not over-loading a given experiment with too powerful or excessive variety of effects. With parameters prepared for fifth, sixth and sevens circle castings, each grade is tested to see what it can handle in terms of spell triggering before it ceases to function properly.
The second part dabbles in how spell selection alters the triggering of responses by a given test subject. Materials are prepared with a conservative selection of three to five spells of third circle or less. Tests include orders and actions that make occur in combat and record observations thereof. Most are subjected to orders to attack a designated target, Coming under assault, or a designated ally being attacked.
A group are prepared for directly offensive books with spells such as Orb of Sound, Magic Missile and Lightning Bolt.
-No fire based spells or offensive spells with a large attack radius are used.
-No necromancy is used.
-Some research is necessary to determine if using offensive conjuration magic will impact the otherwise otherwise transmutation friendly aspect of the spell.
-Spells requiring touch range are not tested.
-Some of these are given Mirror Image to see if it can be utilized effectively.
A group of enchantment and illusion heavy tomes are prepared to see the approximate effectiveness of status effects and de-buffing spells for the purposes of the spell.
-Words of Power are not tested.
-Dispel Magic and Dispel Magic are tested
-Spells requiring touch range are not tested.
A group of more utilitarian manuscripts are prepared to see if it would be more convenient to have a companion for simple warding spells.
-Protection for Arrows and Resist Energy are included to see if they would be triggered under appropriate circumstances.
-Invisibility is tested
-Some books have only spells useful outside of combat, such as Clairaudience/Clairvoyance, Legend Lore, Knock, and the like to see how or if they are used autonomously.

Drualtha's continued efforts-
Now rested and quite well fed on chicken dinners, she would take the time to jot down the formula for the self roasting chicken-she figured that alone could make her a fortune in the restaurant industry. Money was hardly of true interest to her but one cannot ignore opportunity when it knocks.
Noting the difference between Arcane and Divine castings she would theorize that manipulation of positive energy could be experimented with in the same way as negative energy; via a complex series of calculations designed to form a tiny, localized self sealing rift, akin to how one may bring forth a fireball. Some of the principles involved in offensive Necromantic workings (Though, she mused most people found ANY necromantic workings offensive;some people just had no vision) may possibly be applied here, albeit with the source drastically changed from planes of negative energy to positive.
For this research she would use monkeys, for their similarity to people. Also because she could dress them up in tiny hats.
Looking for answers anchored in pure transmutation,as she is convinced that that is ultimately where her greatest chance of success lies, as well as her hope for curing ailments like the Driders curse. She would decide to bring aboard an assistant, a trained healer and anatomist if one could be found since much of her experience up to this point was involved in inflicting damage. Also worth looking into would be how polymorph self and shapechange, as well as Mass Fowl would manage to transmute living beings without turning them into seething masses of biological horror..perhaps each living being had a certain energy pattern, and the answer lay in figuring out how to alter and shift that energy?
She'd save a few monkeys for this line of thought as well.

Brindas Defeign: Caster level 28 (With practiced spellcaster)
Base caster level 25
Wizard 24
PM 1
Lore: 31 (ranks): 42 (ranks + ability mod)
Spellcraft: 31 (ranks) 42 (ranks + ability mod) - These are both higher if counting other bonuses.
Brindas sweeps into the Library of Lore, with tomes upon tomes in a bag. These are not magical texts, no, these are simple all manner of mundane texts in a variety of languages - languages he understands, languages he is studying (such as Aquan), and languages he has absolutely no knowledge of.
His goal and pursuit: A spell that will useful to all, including wand wielders if such a spell could be held in one. A divination spell allowing the user to temporarily understand languages that they have not studied. He begins with a plethora of divination spells that could be useful, as well as some bardic wands to aid in his research. His neat, thin writing and incantations of spells can be scarcely heard by those stepping close to him as he scribbles notes, practicing channeling divine energy both upon himself and allies who speak different languages, as well as parchaments unknown tongues.
