Ramal mounts the horse with a practiced leap swinging one leg over the horse and taking the reigns.

"We are expected to make our own way now? I had gotten used to teleporting."

He rides quickly though they arrive again at the edge of the forest Hasclaan visited before.

"You are getting lazy.", Hasclaan grins. "This horses will serve us well and leave my Teleporting spells for more important things."

The necromancer follows, less practiced at riding but sure enough in the saddle to navigate the street.

He told the Doomguard not everything- teleporting into a besieged town is always risky as there might be wards and rather nervous citizens with pointy things. And riding also allows Hasclaan to study the surroundings... which is what he does now.

As they arrive at the woods Hasclaan stops. "Be careful now. Last time some demons jumped me in there... and today you are not warded against my wail.", he smirks, then continues. "I will not use it until really pressed however.... I rather teleport us away then fight them again."

They arrive at the edge of the forest. Oerth's good weather persists. The sun shines through the dappled shade of the trees and the birds sing a dawn chorus. The idilic scene is spoiled by the thick plume of black smoke which rises from the centre of the wood where the watch tower once stood.

Hasclaan has no eyes for the beauty nor for the signs of destruction, spurring his mount to greater speed.

He wants to avoid the site of destruction- who knows what it attracts now.

"I hope the forces of Law prevailed." and he speaks more to himself than the Doomguard.
But of course there is no place for doubts or fears and he pulls hos cloak closer, the cool air and the forest's shadow, the quick ride- everything chilling him. Or so he keeps telling himself.

As they circle wide around the watcjtower Hasclaan can smell burning flesh, corpses on a pyre, without going closer it is impossible to tell who they belong to.

He glances back at Ramal.

"Want to take a closer look at the destruction? It might give us valuable.. hints."

Hasclaan is here to explore and to invstigate and by examining the corpses... who knows? Perhaps he will learn something and if it is just what fate awaits those losing the coming battle.

As they near the smoking ruins they would see a pile of burnt and charred demonic bodies stacked high. There are no Heronites although they must have taken casulties too as Hasclaan saw one impaled by a balista bolt himself. The watch tower itself jas been dismantled as if by some kind of huge blast the tracks lead away in the direction they are going. The spectacle speals of a group in retreat determined to leave only scorched earth behind for their advancing foe.

"So they won. Good."

He rides closer to the pyre, looking if there is anything left worth animating.

The demons are not immune to the flames but they are resistant to them. Consquently they burn slowly their tainted bodies expelling huge amounts of black smelling smoke. This would leave Hasclaan with plenty of raw materials.

"Keep your eyes open for trouble please", he asks Ramal, then hops from his mount, searching for some of the more dangerous undead, relying on his cloak's enchantments to shield him from the heat.

He works methodically, not bothering to dig or pull the corpses out, driving the onyx spikes into them where they are until he thought he reached the limitis of what his spell can animate- or is out of corpses he can reach.

Spreading his arms, reaching into his mind to find the blasphemous energies that wait to be released he is invoking the words, chanelling negative energy into the remains of the demonic host.
Feeling the fire, feeling its power he tries to reach for this energy that is already present, trying to bind it to some of the corpses together with the negative energy that empowers them.

((Spell Cast: Animate Dead, CL 34. He tries also to create a few undead of the Flaming Skeleton variant- you know, that Libris Mortis stuff. :P ))
