As they enter Norman would notice that the tiles in the hallway are raised slightly as if some kind of pressure plate is beneath them. Should they wish to go further without triggering whatever it is the plate is attached to they will need to find some way of wedging it so it cannot sink when weight is put on it or some means of passing it without touching it.
Outside all is quiet.

"Wait. Trap."
Norman freezes then points at the pressure plate, describing it for his companions so they can see it as well.
"Do you have a spell that can help us, Thist? If not I suggest to get something heavy, trigger it and hope Pelor watches over us."

"Hmm, let me see.." He thinks then snaps his fingers pulling out his satchel. He then casts spell from the scroll , a summon creature 1 and steps back, so he is near the doorway.
"I'd suggest that you stand a little back, never know what's going to happen." He has the critter walk forward to trigger the pressure plate.

Realizing this spikes might pierce his shield and armour easily he grits his teeth and with a wry smile at Thist he tries to cross the trapped parts of the floor- hoping the best.
(( REF save: Roll: 1. Err.... well. The rest does not matter does it? :P))

John would watch them cautiously but would not permit himself to stand out and be seen. He crouches down beside Ben and quietly directs the dogs view at the two officers. He speaks low to the Rangers friend;
"Tag... they're it".
He then quick releases Ben from the harness and lets him "play".

The scroll is read and the spell is cast. There is a cloud of white smoke and after it clears there sits a small white haired monkey. Its golden eyes hinted at its celestial heritage. As Thist wills it across the trigger it scampers forward. There is a clicking noise and then a grid of sharp needle like spikes rise from the floor one of them catching the creature before they descend back down. The monkey whimpers pricked by the spike but it is only a shallow cut. With a click the trap resets.
