Charae returned the all too friendly smile, one that hinted the dark elf was suspicious of something. "Oh I make no secret I am holding on to it. I don't intend to let what little evidence we do have disappear. Besides, The Red Death was asked to assist the Harmonium with this. I am sure that if our lead investigator has an issue with my handling this particular piece of evidence, she would voice it." Chare look at the Measure. "With your approval, Ill be safeguarding this spear until we get it to a trustworthy diviner."

"Well Charae. You did not ask her before taking this. Borrowing before asking is sadly against the law."

He chuckles dryly.

"And please we both know that you are here without warrant and orders and anything.... in no more official capacity than I am.
So why do you not want to cooperate?"

He then turns to Chari.

"I advice in my function as a member if the Fraternity to keep this spear under Harmonium control. It is important evidence that might be critical in solving this crime. It is still the Harmonium who investigate crimes in the Cage, not the Red Death.

The removal of the spear makes it useless as evidence in the trial. The tampering of evidence in general by non Harmonium members will make all evidence found this way highly questionable."

He speaks loud enough to let the Hardheads around them hear him and he makes seems not afraid to make this an official issue- then he lowers his voice again.

"There is a reason why I am here and help and ask for a Hardhead Cleric and a Hardhead Wizard to do the investigations. The case should be watertight. Sloppy work and will not help."

"Makes no difference to me," Charae said just as loudly. "The Red Death are not taking lead here and will follow the Harmonium's choice. Though I believe the Measure can make her own decisions, Aide."

The dark elf looked at Chari pointedly, knowing the Measure's decision would reveal who of the two she trusted.

He gives a dry laugh, outright amused by the dark elf's behavior.

"Good. I am sure the Harmonium knows how to investigate and about the importance of valid evidence. After all.. without this the suspect will go free."

"I am sure they do. Though you are a bit out of the loop, dear." Charae shrugged. "In fact the Harmonium did forward a warrant to the Prison for the arrest of Mauroc Ashtoret. Would you like to see it? I think you will agree it makes my presence here rather official. If anything, you being here without approval could be seen as compromising the integrity of a crime scene, what with your eagerness to steer the investigation along yourself. Though I am sure you have the best of intentions."

His amusement persist and he tilts his head.

"A request for assistance is hardly a warrant. Nor does it increase your compenteces. You are a Mercykiller, Charae. Not a Hardhead, not a Guvner. You are part of the Triad but you are not the Triad.
You know what the Red Death does. You know what the Guvners do. You know what the Harmonium does.

So I have to ask... why this silly little game? Why do you risk this whole operation?

As for my reasons being here... I want to make this case here watertight. If I hunt down the assassin myself I cannot do anything to bring him to justice. Because I need the Harmonium, because I need the Mercykillers. The triad is about cooperation. I thought you know this, Charae.

What do you think will happen if you find him? Arrest him? "

"You are the one that is adamant about me not handling evidence. You speak of cooperation yet do what all Guvners do: try to control others with red tape. Maybe your recent involvement with the Mauric has more to it than I thought. Would you let one of the last people seen with the murderer before the murder of several Harmonium be taking any charge with this investigation? I think that makes you a person of interest. What is your real reason for being here?"

Again he explains, with the patience of someone who has to deal with difficult people on a daily basis.

"I am adamant because it is not your place to handle evidence, Charae. As it is not my place to go up to some gallows and hang a murderer.

If you want some blood for research- why not ask the Measure for it? As I did as well? But the evidence itself must stay in Harmonium hands. Else it will not be longer valid at courts.

It will compromise a trial.

Is this really so hard to understand?"

The team investigating has stopped now, so have several passers by. They all watch the developing argument.

Hasclaan is unbothered by this, seems rather relaxed, not tiering to explain again.

After all he knows what is at a stake here- he saw many go free because the evidence was invalid or lacking. After all- Laws must be followed, Order must be served.
