Stopping The Addiction

"You said twentyfive a day?"

She thinks a bit.

"Alright. I fight for you. If you want me. And I am as reliable as the other guys you can hire. Trust me.", she says smiling wryly.

Khari looked at Eman. "What do you think? You know Hivers better than me."

[*Selebius]

"What she said is probably true. Might be a bloody lie as well, however. So is up to you. Is your jink after all. I do not trust her more or less than most other guys I might hire."

Khari pondered about it. Part of her wanted to give the woman a chance, but the other part wanted to be rid of her. It was the survivor in her that didn't want to leave anything to chance. Though Seja had worked the dealers before. Khari believed that might come in handy at some point.

"And what about your boss?" she asked Seja. "Are you willing to betray him? You sound rather frightened about him."

They look at each other and strangely there is no hostility between her companions and the guard- just the usual waryness Hivers show to each other.

"Well... if you need us I think we are all for hire. But depends on risk and payment of course.", Eman says.

//The guard would still be bound. Khari just released her grip on her shirt, though it is clear Khari is no longer hostile.

"I need people to help me put a stop to what your former boss is doing. And I'm willing to spend jink to do it."

Khari looked at Eman. "We will need fighters. As many as we can get." She then looked back at Seja. "Tell me everything you know about your boss. Name, who he works for, anything you know about him."

Eman nods, thinks a bit. "I will see who I can get. How much jink may I offer?"


The guard thinks a bit, then shrugs. "He some kind of mage. No idea how strong or what he can do. But do not underestimate him."

"I told you not to underestimate him. He is powerful." She does not say more but she seems nervous when thinking of him.

"As for my... betrayal: I am loyal to the coin, not people. You might not like to hear that but why shall I lie to you? Also your companions will tell you the same. Most are in for the money. Ideals or beliefs do not fill your belly."

"I'm not as naive as you might think. I grew up in the wilds, so I know what it is like to need to survive and how harsh it can be. I've never lived in the Hive, but the laws of nature are not far off." Khari cut Seja loose. "No one in my employ will go hungry, I assure you."

It wasn't a complete lie. Khari knew the reality behind nature and how hunger drove even the most docile of beasts feral. The Hive had not appeared any different. She wouldn't expect any real loyalty from any of them. But she didn't need loyalty. She needed fighters. Khari wanted for little and didn't care how much it would cost to rid the Hive of its current plight.

The ranger looked at Eman. "Go find some men. We'll need a new target soon."

"We need to slow down their production and distribution first. The Putrid Hand must have more of those pain pits. That new soup kitchen where they are poisoning people needs to be taken down too. That wizard will show up sooner or later if he is the one creating the extractors."

Khari had no desire to commit arson in order to stop the Putrid Hand's at the soup kitchen, but she hadn't removed the option from the table. Hunger would be enough motivation for the starving to keep going there. To a Silvanite, violence was a last resort. She needed to try another way first. Perhaps they could be led elsewhere?

"Any ideas on how to do this? We want Hivers to stop going there. What if we opened up something of our own?"
