Chant speaks of a deadly force or creature out for blood. A killing spree spreading outwards from the Market Ward. Corpses left behind in gruesome state, flayed and discarded in plain view. The power groups of the city are still caught up with each other as the murders continue. But already individuals are pursuing the trail of corpses to find and stop whatever is the cause of these murders!

Upon seeing the body in Khazeet's bar, a little over a week prior, Sharon Raynsford had searched the body and belongings of the deceased man to find any sort of identifying tattoo or item, despite Ikazuchi's command to not touch the corpse before the Harmonium arrived.

"Sodding Hardheads wouldn't care what happens out here anyway," Sharon mumbled to herself. She penned down anything of interest she may (or may not) have found at the time, even sniffed the blood in case it was spiked with anything, then departed after a few more words were spoken to the blue-haired man.

...

As more sightings of the flayed bodies were found recently, even beyond the Market Ward, Sharon decided to step up and start asking around for any witness accounts in the Market Ward and for the identities of the deceased. After all, it seems there is a pattern to these murders, and it appeared to her that someone is intentionally sending a message to others by laying the bodies in plain sight. As she did this, she started to write down a brief article for the SIGIS, in case she didn't get a lead...

The body left behind in KhazeetÂ’s bar had been dead for only a couple of hours at most before the discovery. The majority of the wounds on it were inflicted after death, with only the large incision of a back stab with a light blade being the exception. Patrons at the bar would comment that nobody remembers seeing the person arrive, but given his status as a regular patron, nobody questioned his sudden appearance, or his apparent drunken stupor lying against the pillar. His identity is that of Jeron Meyer, a tiefling who lived and worked on the Market Ward carrying boxes back and forth for Portalhackers Shipping and Co. Last seen alive leaving work, in fact.

Although it has been a while since the first body was discovered, the continuous occurrence of these murders has prompted witnesses and onlookers to keep what little they may know fresh on their minds. All the bodies had been undressed after death, with the clothes left next to them. The first couple of bodies had been entirely skinned from the neck down, while the latest victims have simply random patches of skin peeled off. All of the victims were lonesome individuals with mundane or downright mediocre occupations, no planeswalkers, mercenaries, adventurers or otherwise similar occupations. None belonged to any faction either, excepting the Harmonium notary found alongside the latest victim in the LadyÂ’s Ward. He is also the exception to the fact that all of the victims are Tieflings. Witnesses would comment that the Dustmen would surely know more, seeing they are housing the bodies in the immense Mortuary in the Hive Ward, and autopsies are among their many skills related with the world of the dead.

A recent arrival to Sigil, following the advice from locals, decides to enter the Sewers to plunder what meager treasures the bandits and beasts gather from their prey. The tiefling girl is joined by someone who also seeks some adventure, and both descend with the prospect of spilling bloodÂ…

Danae, having recieved word from the avariel Cerys about a new body appearing in the market ward's entrance to Undersigil. She went to go have herself a look, accompanied by Argent and Cerys herself. With being specialized in dead bodies, she looked over the female adventurer before carting the woman off to The Dustmen for a proper autopsy. Although, most likely they'd give the roughly same information the half elf had gathered.

At the scene, she also collected the bloody shortsword strewn to the side. Wrapping it in a sterile clean cloth for protection and preservation, she packed it away. Hoping Argent may get an impression on it at a later date.

Argent with his inspection was examining the entire context of the scene attempting to piece the frame work of the fight back together. The route up the ladder. If there was impression from when the victim had been pulled off the rungs and at what height. The weight of the body and how much force would be needed to drag somebody down and how tall they was to grab the woman. The tracks of blood from top side and the dirty pools below as evidence for how long the scuffle lasted. Since the victim was turned around, indication if the attacker was more right or left handed.

Since it appears the victim had fought back, there should be two types of blood. He taken a vial from the more prominent spots, then swab off the tossed aside blade to determine if it was the victim or the attackers. Here he do some alchemical work for comparisons to common blood types of species in Sigil.

The last bit the cerebremancer sitting down to focus on the blade with a little signer ingenuity beliving it would hold the most prominent emotions at the height of the attack and leave behind a vision or impression for that moment for any sort of clue.

Upon returning to Sigil after a brief time out, Dace caught wind of the new killers activities. Being too late to catch the reported scenes, he instead took witness and third hand accounts in the bazaar. A few planewalkers were comissioned to learn what they could and inform the Prison and Barracks of what they found, while a certain Bleaknik was asked to check with the Gatehouse records for any potentially linked cases in the asylum.

Soon after, the warlock would return to the Prison, looking over the roster for the most capable candidate to delegate the case to.

An attention-seeker with a complex or an amateur foolish enough to leave a trail of evidence, both were resultant of the mental instability. Death was common place in reality, insanity a familiar dirge for the Gatehouse's madmen. Yet, for all the conversancy of topic it was never one greeted with joy; a subject as bleak as the Cabal itself. It was to Odette whom the task had fallen with specifics of investigation, in part, the request of the Mercykiller Factor undertaken in scour of records.

Engulfed in the glow of oil lamp, warm hues blanched in entwine of steel and concrete, the silver-haired femme set about cross-referencing details made known to she with those recorded in the vaulted records of the Gatehouse. Gloved digits, beholden to subtle but ever present tremor, flicked with deft ease through asylum's files. Among them, keen emerald optics scanned for recent discharge of patient with similar behavioral tendencies - particularly those with a history of murder, and more pointedly the retain of physical trophies.

Well into the night she perused, the faint bags upon freckled visage darkening with the passing hours. From discharged patients, search shifted to those incarcerated still; possibilities not limited solely to the killer himself but those whom might provide insight into the thoughts, and patterns, of a psychopath. Names, dates, actions, reactions; all transferred to notebook in Bleaker's scratchy cursive.

Danae, Argent and Cerys descend to the sewers, and are immediately greeted by the murder scene. The adventuress lies against a pillar, next to the access ladder, and even a cursory examination in the dim lights of the underground reveals discrepancies with the previous attacks. First is the victim herself: a skilled, armed adventurer as opposed to the previous victims, of which none even wore armor, or carried something to protect themselves. What killed her was not a blade wound, but something slamming her head against the pillar with enough force to snap her neck. Judging by the amount of additional wounds on her body, and marks on the filthy cobblestones of the sewers, the fight was quite fierce, and the murderer no doubt walked away with heavy injuries. The Dustmen in charge of the bodies would point that the wounds coincide with the second killing weapon (a small blade that drains blood, causes massive injuries, and leaves no traces of metal) The backstab in this case wasnÂ’t lethal thanks to the armor and the better physical condition of this victim compared with the others. Perhaps the murderer felt confident to go after armed victims, a mistake it will probably not repeat after the outcome of this attempt.

The silver elf studies the crime scene outside the body itself. For what he can gather, the attack was started by the murderer as soon as the victim began to climb the stairs up. The body was left here, without the slightest attempt at hiding it or propping it like the previous murders. The trails of blood on the ladder and outside are likely from the murderer, a short trail that leads up and away from the site. Speaking of the blood, his alchemical tests show that surprisingly, most of the blood in the scene comes not from the victim, although she still lacks some of her blood as the rest of the attackers, which is consistent with the possible weapon and the other victims. The blood type would give an interesting result. The murderer is some sort of Monstrous Humanoid.
Later, in the privacy of his own sanctum, Argent examines the sword with his particular power. There is an imprint of the last living moments of her late owner. A vision plays in his mindÂ’s eye for him alone to knowÂ…

The Bazaar people are still agitated at these occurrences. Another victim, and this time someone who fought for a living. For some reason, the theory that this is the work of a Psionic Vampire has gained popularity among the crowds that wander the Market Ward, Someone with a taste for the skin and blood of tieflings and strikes with a blade made of solidified thought. Those barmier than others murmur about a monstrous beast that dresses as a person to stalk the streets and hunt their favorite prey, wearing their skin to walk among them. After the initial shock of surprise, many betting tables have sprouted regarding the identity and motives of the murders. The Pool on KhazeetÂ’s bar along is currently sitting at a thousand Jink.

The Asylum may never rest with the distant echoes of the committed or the ministrations of those tending them, but it is surprisingly silent on any dark regarding the serial killings. So far no victim has had any connection of any kind with either the Gatehouse or the faction, and those who still have some care about the events that take place outside their minds know just the usual chant from conversations and the newsrags. What is found by the Bleaknik, however, is what the Cabal excels in, which is information and studies on mental disorders, especially on dangerous complexes of the kind that goes hand in hand with serial murder. Serial murderers by definition lack empathy for others, which allow them to repeatedly end lives without remorse. The violent method of attack, the gruesome wounds, and the violent outbursts when things go wrong, such as the dead notary covered in wounds, or the latest victim whose head was bashed to death, suggest something or someone with a compulsive obsession with whatever they obtain from the murders, which brings to the flaying. The skin flaying could be trophies, sustenance, or ingredients for a greater goal (flesh golem is another theory among gamblers) and the fact that these were harvested even in hazardous situation like the LadyÂ’s Ward victim or the latest one shows it is something important enough to risk death on every occasion. It reminds of an addict desperate for another shot. It is surprising that something with this manner of profile would walk unseen through the Bazaar, given the almost feral tendencies it shows. The assassin would stand out somehow in its behavior or interactions with others, if someone knew what to look for.

Having received the case from Factor Dace Andor, a certain Mercykiller Justice can be seen seeking out those planeswalkers already on the case for their own reasons. Whatever those reasons may be, Justice Brynn approaches any of those involved that she can find, offering cooperation and collaboration in investigating this 'Skin Slasher' and bringing the perpetrator to trial.

More specifically, she asks to be brought up to speed on the number of murders, the details of each scene, and the evidence collected thus far. In return, her involvement and assistance offers the investigation a certain added legitimacy in the eyes of the law, and Brynn herself is well-versed in Sigil's laws regarding what is in essence a private investigation. Things like the handling of evidence and the actual citizen's arrest itself could go horribly wrong and hurt the case, in the hands of someone unfamiliar with the laws surrounding it.

Throughout the entire exchange, Brynn presents a very personable mannerism, pleasant to interact with and quite respectful of the efforts of the planeswalkers in question.

The Mercy Killer is put up to date by the population of the Market Ward on the chant circulating about the murders. Someone or something is killing tieflings and flaying them for some inscrutable reason other than to terrorize the population by leaving the multiated bodies in plain sight. Nine victims counting the latest one in the sewers of the Bazaar, ten if the dead Notary in the double homicide at the Lady's Ward plaza is counted among them. As this is primarily indep territory, the nosing around of a member of the militaristic factions of Sigil is not exactly welcome, but extra hands to stop these murders are appreciated nonetheless. The vampire is directed to the group of people that has been noticed by the population to be "heading" the investigation. Namely Sharon, Cerys, Argent, and the other planeswalkers they usually associate with. Sharon is pointed as the primary force in this group, as she went back and forth the Mortuary to examine the bodies, and interrogate one of the Chirurgeons that was involved with the autopsies. As Brynn is pointed to the location where these intrepid investigators can be found, the people in Khazeet's bar casually ask if vampires can use psionic powers same as living folk. Apparently there's a bet on the cause being psionic vampires.
