A series of posters seemingly appeared overnight, across multiple wards and near popular portals.
"Warriors of the Multiverse!
Let it be known that a first in a series of Tournaments will be held on the glorious fields of Ysgard, from mid-cycle of the last day of the week. The tournament is open to All those seeking to prove their martial skills; spellweavers and bashers of more subtle inclinations will have to wait until the next series to prove their cunning.
There will be spectacle, there will be glory, and from the flurry of steel and blood, a champion will emerge!
Sponsored by the Doomguard, all who seek to prove their skill in the ring of honor are welcome and encouraged to sign up just outside the Armory; participation costs 3,000 gold, with the winners taking both a significant portion of the prize pool and finely crafted gear made from the rarest of metals! Spectators need not pay any entry fee and are more than welcome to cheer their favorite pit fighters and gladiators through the day of spectacle!
Note: If you are a merchant interested in peddling your wares during the tournament, leave a message with your intent and contact details instead."
//Okay, so, OOC rundown since I don't want to cram all the needed info into the announcement:
Event will be held in the coming weeks, when the DM has time. Spectating the tournament is allowed for everyone, but they cannot interfere in the duels. I am hoping that we can fit all characters into the same range of 25-30.
Participation costs 3,000 coins, which will contribute to the prize pool distributed among the winners. Rewards will be crafted on site so it fits what the character would want to use.
Since this is a martial tournament, the goal is to have PCs duke it out in melee, using only martial abilities such as Rage, Knockdown or Whirlwind and the gear they have. This means no spellcasting and no consumables such as wands or potions, no spells from items, no offensive racial spells (Duergar's Enlarge Self and similar abilities are okay), no HiPS and other, non-martial abilities; items with Improved Knockdown are also barred, as I consider spamming that feat an exploit.
It'd be best to discuss rules on sight with participant input, on second thought.
If you wish to participate, please leave an IC reply with OOC information regarding your character's level; hopefully we can fit all participants into the same level range of 25-30.//

((These rules seem very vague and arbitrary. If it's supposed to be an IC tournament, we should have IC rules, if it's more of an OOC thing then there should be a detailed list of what's not allowed. Right now it's blurry and it looks like almost no PC actually fits those criterias))

*A pale creature with black hair dressed in all black wanders by the armory and speaks with one of men outside. After hearing what the spectacle is all about she scribbles down a name on the board for the ones who wants to take part in this event.*
I Trixx La'Croix will take part in this event.
/// OOC: Trixx is level 30 ///
/// OOC: Is it still acceptable to fight with magical weapons and wearing magical armour? ///

//Yes, reading back its a bit vague. I'll clarify; but the main goal is that its a martial tournament, so spellcasting is barred. But since there are a lot of OOC gameplay elements that need to be handled, it can't be all IC rules.Mick64,Nov 17 2015 wrote: ((These rules seem very vague and arbitrary. (( Chiming in here for a moment:
This whole event is player driven. Merchants, Bards, warriors, healers, crafters- all can find a way to participate.
There might even be a jury who decides on the 'performance' of the fighters if you guys want to have this event to have an RP part too- remember a good arena battle is not just about strenght but also about entertainment.
The more roles are filled with PCs the better- the best case would be if I just provide the portal to the area, some eyecandy and can spend the rest of the time rewarding good RP with the wand. :D
For merchants I will provide tents where they can set up shop, bards may get a small stage ect, ect.
What you guys make of this is really up to you- remember you can also add your faction RP (sensate bards, Taker tax collectors, a hardhead competing for the glory of their faction and dusties waiting for the corpses ect).
The core is the tournament, it should be the focus, the big event of the day. But feel free to add your own ideas how your character will fit in :).
As for when this will be run- I am aiming for a Sunday, at about 15-1600 GMT. The exact date will be announced as soon you guys finished the preperation.

//Since NWN2 is inherently difficult to balance, I'd say we discuss the rules of engagement and what not at the event or between fighters... I'm not a PvP expert so it would be better to have a quick discussion and settle with something that makes the majority happy.

Just to begin, given the fact that this is a martial artist/fighters focused tournament, just not to have wm scythe users roll a 20 and crit you for like 200-300 dmg and let the match end in a couple of rounds, I would suggest to use a rule to ban all enchanted weapons, only basic ones allowed of different metals (not the special materials crafts) and weapons that have the x creature ruin feat, because personally I don't see the reason why vampires or other races immune to criticals plus dr 10+ etc should have such a great advantage in this event.
Also it would be really nice to have some merchant offering those said weapons for a "last minute purchase" along those other merchants that want to set up stalls selling their normal wares. Just to have a big number of partecipants... fighters, spectators, merchants... and anyone else that might get interested into the event for a reason or the other.
I have a bunch of other rules to throw in, but first want to see what the others suggest here

*A sun-scarred elderly halfling reads the poster several times before ripping it down and pocketing it*.
"Could be a trap... Could be dinner... Could be both..."
*He chuckles at his own strange little joke and then heads to the Armory to sign up.*
'ZOK' *He writes in large blocky letters on the board.*
((still lvling but will be at least 25 by the event))

//Sure, we can have a cookie cutter, no rules PvP event where the first person to press their autowin button wins... but what exactly is the point in that?pure_sin,Nov 19 2015 wrote: I think to many restriction will cause less PC involvement. If you want a tourney just have a tourney ,let the chips fall where they may. Telling a SD to not Hips makes them vulnerable , a warrior with out his weapons or armor might as well stand there naked , and a no crit rule will cripple crit builds all these could cause people to not participate. Oh and what about divine might and divine shield. Then there is the fact that you have muti-class character that are both casters and melee , are they restricted to only 1/2 their build?
The whole point of a game is to compete within a set of rules. That's what a tournament is, a game with rules. You didn't see knights going free for all on eachother with crossbows and halberds in a swordfight, did you?
So far I suggested that it'd be best to discuss rules on site with everyone involved, so we can try to make it agreeable to the most people. I'm not a PvP expert as it was pointed out, so I won't be the one calling shots. If that isn't acceptable, then I don't know what is, and frankly I won't be caring at that point.
