The Magical Golden Begging Bowl

Chant on the street amongst the underclasses, especially the beggars and other downtrodden of Sigil and most talked about in the Hive, is that the Beggar deity, Erbin (a minor deity, but still a power) is pretty narked.

Apparently some daring blood made of with a precious artifact belonging to the god. Looks like someone is looking to get themselves put in the dead book, Erbin is also a god of Vengance.

Still, some of the ragged brothers, who have a bit of a connection with Erbin. Holy beggars one could say, have received omens and visions indicating that the artifact, a golden bowl, has somehow ended up in Sigil.

Two things are made clear by the holy ones. Erbin is royally pissed and wants to see the thief's head on a spike, and secondly, and more importantly, he will greatly reward the one who returns his bowl to him. The head of the thief within the bowl would be a nice addition, but optional. Vengeance will come sooner or later to the thief anyway.

Apart from that, no strong clues. scrying attempts have failed to turn up the location (not having ever seen the object in question and without Erbin being able to provide direct divine inspiration within Sigil its going to be hard anyway). However, the blessed brothers have indicated that when they do scry, they get a feeling of.... chaos... and bad smells, and frequently there is a sense of fire and a lot of background noise, but just as often there is little or no noise.

The holey holy priests keep trying, and will spread the word of their master should more information be discovered.

Garlfol a notorias begger from the hive, gets wind of the current chant. "oy a bowl tat no one can refuse, oy I gots to find this" He sets off a bout the Hive, trying to gather up as much info he can.

Now Garlfol, he's a schemer as some of the closest to him will even tell ya. Exactly what goes on that Gnomes head is quite unknown, he also seems to have a way with money always dissapearing in the strangest ways, unexplicable to the common man. and even in his Homly apparell and better left for dead looks, he certainly has a way to charm a person into giving him some coin. It is also known that he is quite talanted in the performance department. If he could just actually keep a coin or invest it wisely the gnome would be some star, but alass just a begger and street performer.

Rat That Lurks finishes her meal of fish and moldy bread, fresh from the Hive's garbage dump near the Slags and sets out to explore.

The diminutive goblin is rarely noticed by anyone- too weak and downtrodden to be a threat, to dirty and poor to be a target for the thives. Today she is not after the few coins she makes- she listens carefully to the hive folk, gathering rumours and spreading a few wrong ones about a certain cup herself.

The strong smell of rotten garbage overwhelms the area as a large ogre approaches. Giving the impression he had never showered. Nor did it seem to bother him at all. Meaning he had at least carried this odor for a very long time. He also happened to be carrying a rather large slightly rotten wood bowl. Which he sets down in front of Kahzeet's bar.

Changz? Youz gots Changz?

The Ogre would shout out to those few stragglers that couldn't escape him in time. The smell really was awful and unlike anything you ever smelt before.

Take a bath!

Cried a nearby halfling. This only appeared to anger the ogre causing it to reach down and grab the poor creature and yell at it saying,

Changz, youz gots changz?

This scared the halfling quite a bit, as would you if you where suddenly snatched up and covered in saliva and the smell of year old rotten fish coming from it's mouth. This sent the halfling shaking. Or as much as he could shake given that his whole body was gripped in the ogre's hand. He most certainly would have given all he had at that moment had he been able to move.

Yes! Yes! I have change! Just let me go!

Cried the halfling to which the ogre set him down. Or I should say Dropped him a good two feet from the ground. At which point the halfling quickly tossed what jink he had on him at the ogre and quickly dashed off. And didn't stop running till he was sure there was a great distance between him and the ogre. Meanwhile, the ogre preceded to pick up the coins and place them in the wood bowl.

OOC: Sorry, got a little storytellerish with the narrative.

Current rumours that are circulating amongst society's underbelly are:
  • The Fated have the bowl in their possession. They are using it to amass large quantities of jink. Keep an eye out for Fated, see if one rattles their bone box about such.
  • Its currently in the hands of a crazy Xaositec. They have been rumored to have been on the slopes of Stygia in Baator using it like a toboggan and later returned to brag about how they evaded the devils at high speed.... well, the actual words were "Birds flew with spiked tails, fleety were the little frozen ones"... but you get the idea.
  • The Guvner's have it and are currently trying to take it apart and see if they can figure out how it works. A certain mid level bureaucrat, tag of A4 Upsin Dell, a human with residence in Clerk's Ward claims to have been involved in the experiments.
  • The renowned Halfling, trader, and planeswalker, Jall Golgherro has seen the bowl with her own eyes. She recounted that her fingers itched when its powers were demonstrated. She tried to purchase it, but the possessor would not sell. The possessor was clad head to foot in black and roughly human sized.
  • A self-proclaimed "King of Beggars" has appeared. He has announced the whole thing is a hoax and that everyone should just calm down and get back to business of grabbing jink through honourable begging means. Chant is that he has acquired some followers, and they seem to be quite active in asking questions about the bowl.
  • That addle-cove beggar, the one who stands near Muriel's inn day and night in all weather.... well, he's actually he is an agent of Erbin. The news of the bowl's theft is old... very old... and this beggar has been there for a long time watching and waiting.
  • Khazeet has it! He was overheard singing a song about a gilded bowl and also has been talking about returning to the City of Brass, returning with enough wealth to live like an Emir.
  • The bowl has been taken from the last possessor (who was killed) into Under Sigil by the Wererats. The current king of the wererats has it in his hoard.

Rat keeps begging around the bazaar, watching those old beggar and and 'zeet carefully, listening to the chant. That this singing gnome is now found here too makes her very suspicious. She tries to avod this King of Beggar guy and his goons- nothing good can come from them.

Later- after the fall of darkness she will make her way to that guvner's home in the clerks ward, trying to intercept the man on his way home. She will just ask for a few coins, watching the man's reactions, trying to know his face.

Then, later... she'll decide.

People come and go as usual from the bar, and on occasion someone strikes up a conversation with Khazeet.

Man: "So, chant on the street Khaz is that you are thinking of retiring? Truth or just barmies rattling their bone boxes? What's the dark?"

Khaz: "Well, ye know how it is. My flames aren't as hot as they once were. Might be time for me to find myself a place to settle down. Perhaps look up an old flame, make some embers if ye catch me drift."

Man: "Can't believe it. You've gone native here Khaz, you're part if the scenery practically. What would Bazaar be without you! And besides, you got enough jink?"

Khaz: "Ah, well, i'm pretty sorted now. I mean, business isn't bad, brings in some jink, but the truth is, had myself an altercation with the Fated. Turns out they had been screwing me over for years. But some berk barked and i got wind of it. Went to the Guvners about it. Not that Guvners like me in general after how things have gone with them in the past, but i have myself one or two contacts and favours owed. Guvners ruled in my favour. I hear Darkwood is royally pissed and fit to kill. Anyway, make long story short, i'm expecting a rather large payment from the Fated any day now."

Man: "Ah, Khaz, ye wily devil. Well, i wish ye all the best, but i hopes ye stays"

Khaz: "Ack, ye knows how it is. Flights of fancy an all that. Doubt i could close up the old bar anyway. It would bring a flame to my eye if i ever were to do that. Probably spend the money on sprucing the place up, maybe import some more exotic ales and stuff" *he chuckles* "And there are always the fireskirts... an old efreet can't spend all his time working!"

The banter goes on for a while longer, but Garlfol has heard all he needs to.

Rat could have overheard the same information that Garlforl heard. Khaz and the man were not speaking quietly, and besides, who pays attention to a mangy beggar?

It wouldn't have taken long for Rat to discover the home of the Guvner having his name and rank, nor his usual routine, Guvners tend to be regular about their activities.

As Rat approaches Upsin and asks for a few coins the man shrugs a moment, the grins, and throws Rat, much to his surprise, a Plantium coin. He walks away whistling and chuckling.

Packing up after Listening and probably just making enough for some bread n a kip, he heads out.

Thinks.....o(hmmm if the fated had the bowl and knew what it was there would be know way it would be intrade through court dealings)

He looks overby the hall of records, then decides to set up around there for a while, knowing he's not gonna make much here but perhaps he'll trigger some yappy Fated members about a Certian bowl...he also absolutely does not leave jink to linger in his basket, knowing them they find a tax for jink left in basket......
