jall doesn't really know the woman, but might have seen her around in the hive during her investigation if she wore such expensive things.
((nero, how were the man and boy encountered on the street dressed? ragged as any hivers?))

[The Facts Thus Far:

-Nero encountered a poorly dressed and dirty Hiver man and his son upon the Hive streets. The pair was engaged in a search for their missing wife/mother.

-Nero located the woman in question - confirmed by a matching description to the missing woman - murdered in an alley.

-The woman was apparently attacked by multiple assailants some eight hours or more before Nero found the corpse.

-She defended herself before she was stabbed in the stomach and bled out.

-Her unwashed hair and Hiver identity doesn't fit with her healthy teeth and a scent of lilac perfume upon her neck.

-A fine gold locket was found nearby the corpse, almost completely buried in the mud.

-The locket contains a picture of the dead woman dressed as a noblewoman, and another picture of an as yet unknown young man also dressed in noble finery.

-The woman's husband has been seen gambling at the local pit fights.

-The woman is a recognized Hiver.]

looking at the corpse jall wonders ''no jinks on her? no riches of sort beyond the one found in the mud?''

also...tracks regarding the murderers? footprints? clothes pieces? picking some skin from under the fingernails of the dead and cast a scrying on it?... all things she wonders about...

if mud is present though...SHE might be caught...dammit footprints ! *looks at her feet*
steps back trying to...avoid leaving footprints...

"Good morning, Alathra."

Nero's light voice was a stark contrast to the grisly scene before her. It was indeed murder, no doubt about it. What remained of the young woman was in a pool of her own blood, a pained expression on her lifeless face. As the eladrin started going over the details, her mind started putting together all the questions. Who had done this? And more importantly, why?

Alathra knelt down by the corpse, carefully looking it over. Lighting another smoke as she brushed away the auburn hair from the face of the girl, she frowned. It seemed familiar, somehow. This was not the first time she had crossed paths with this girl.

"Girl's a Hiver by choice. Kid to a wealthy family in the Lady's Ward, she grew up with silk up her arse. Fell in with the wrong crowd, to spite her old man, I think. We've had her in for petty crime before, a few times."

She rose, exhaling some smoke as she studied the bloodspatter.

"It was all a game to her. People want what they don't have, and this girl had everything. An abundance of it, really, so she came here. To try what it was like to have nothing. To be wild.

She frowned slightly as she studied the scene. Something was missing. Her hand - the muscles had contracted, as if she had held something, but lost it within her final moments.

"She didn't give up without a fight, it seems. Multiple assailants, yet they did not outright kill her. She died from the wounds... after the assailants had gone away, it looks like. Why?

It didn't add up. These days, she came upon murder scenes almost every day, but most of the time, there was a clear motive. But not here. Wealthy girl, trying to escape her inheritance as a fop. If someone wanted to exploit that, they would ransom her. If someone wanted to outright kill her, they'd make damn sure she was dead before they left. No, there was definitely something shrouded here. She turned to the eladrin, about to pose a difficult question.

"Where's th-"

She shut her mouth when he threw a small locket her way. Realizing this was one of the missing pieces, she gave the eladrin a long look.

"Our scene, Nero. My rules. I thought we were clear on that."

She flicked open the locket, and watched the girl in her dress. It was her indeed, and a bit more like she remembered her. She turned to the girl, comparing the body. She was thinner. Much thinner. And besides the obvious cause, her skin had an almost sickly glow to it.

"Poor girl. What did you get yourself into?"

She turned to observe the serene Dustman standing slightly behind. There was something... off, about her.

"If I were to request the assistance of the Dustmen in this particular case, or more specifically, your expertise when performing autopsies within your own grounds, what would you say? I've a nudge that death isn't the only thing making the poor kid look like a corpse."

[This thread is open to any and all who wish to participate. ItÂ’s time to get some proper crime and investigation up in this joint!]

It began with a body, as such things always must. A young woman stripped and murdered, left alone in a cold Hive alley way, not even treated to disposal in a trash heap. Nero probably wouldn’t have found the poor girl, were it not for a chance encounter with a worried Hive man and sobbing boy who even now desperately searched the streets. Another lost wife and mother – he had seen this before all too many times.

Check the facts, he silently recited and went about the rote tasks.

Hair unwashed and greasy – she hadn’t bathed for at least a week.

Slight scent of lilac upon her neck – perfume? A gift? Ask her husband.

Teeth intact and firmly set – she’s well-nourished.

Split and swollen lips, bruise beneath the eye – suffered abuse before she died.

Clothes intact, ragged but not torn – sexual assault unlikely.

Scraped skin beneath her finger nails – she defended herself from her assailant. Assailants? Check the shoes.

No shoes, but fresh dirt heavily caked between her toes – She had turned in place several times. Yes. She tried to watch her multiple assailants.

Stab wound to her belly, and a large pool of bloody mud around her stiff form - cause of death: excessive bleeding, not the wound itself. And the rigor mortis placed her time of death no less than eight ago before.

But why was she attacked?

Nero left the body where it lay and checked about for any indication of motivation. A faint glimmer in the mud caught his eye, and he investigated to find a single gold locket almost completely buried. Pulling it free, he analyzed it just as he had the body.

Finely crafted gold – not a Hiver girl’s trinket.

Working clasp and lack of tarnish – new or regularly maintained

The picture within – Oh, now that’s interesting.

Nero had expected to find a picture of the man and boy he had earlier met on the street. Or barring that, at least a picture of the dead woman and her husband. Instead the womanÂ’s portrait happily smiled back, set beside an equally happy picture of a young man. But so much more noteworthy is that both were dressed in the finery of the rich and pampered.

He snapped it shut and settled it securely into a pocket. First he would see the body attended to, and then he would get some answers. Exiting the alley, Nero sought out the closest Harmonium agent - specifically Alathra Blackthorne or Kour - to inform them of the body.

since sneaky jall was in these days investigating in the hive there might be a chance she stumbles in the body too, or even in nero examinating the body. she wouldn't reveal herself anyway. but if such happen is still yet to see ((can't be me only to decide such, after all))
or maybe she hears rumors of it anyway

Annia makes her way through the hive, as a dustman she is always on the look out for bodies to return to the mortuary as she rounds the cornor she nearly walks into Nero her eyes run from him to the body and she takes on an air of detatched intrest.

"That appears to be quite the hamdful you have there, needless to say the dead are my area of expertise, perhaps I can help?

She is clearly only aware of Nero and would have no way of detecting Jall

[It happens! Jall stumbled in on Nero's investigation and saw all without alerting him. Participate!]

"Good morning, Annia. You look lovely today. Unfortunately there's been a murder and I was just off to alert my Harmonium allies. I suppose you'll want to tend the corpse - but I'm afraid I must insist that it remains intact and as undisturbed as possible - excluding its relocation, of course. It might yet hold evidence pertaining the murder."

Nero carries on in his typical manner, smooth and urbane, engaging Annia without noticing Jall's presence.

After some time, Alathra would have recieved word within the Barracks that her presence was required at a murder scene. Knowing full well that this was a race against time already, she left most of her armory in the office and pulled a heavy, dark trenchcoat on as she sheathed a longsword and her one-hand hand musket into her belt.

It is a good day to die, she mused as she stepped into the bustling citylife of the Lady's Ward, hundreds of late-cycle citizens going about their daily business, happily oblivious that this very moment, a young girl lied in a pool of her own blood, a victim of yet another criminal. He would hang from the leafless tree soon enough.

Taking a moment to light a smoke, she eyed the young harmonium officers on duty by the front door as they eyed her. Suddenly the opposite rim of the Cage became very interesting.

She made her way through the city. Another murder, another victim, another life lost. All too often did it end in a dead end, litterally and metaphorically. She was a soldier, she was trained to fight, and if neccesary, to die. This part of her job was not something you could train for. Either you had the eye for the details, or you didn't. She had made the observation that unfortunately, very few on the force had the eye, and all too often the ignorance of the very people who were supposed to locate the criminals, contributed to their escape. It was part of the reason why she had been enthralled by Nero's offer in the first place. He'd have his time to shine, soon enough.

With her nondescript presence, she quickly strode through the Hive Ward, the usual trouble following a Harmonium Officer on duty nonexistant. As she approached the slightly nervous looking Notary remaining on watch where she was summoned to, a brief look of relief gave away his heart. She flicked what remained of the smoke over her shoulder.

"Set up a perimeter at both ends of the alley. Noone gets in, noone gets out without my say so. And make soddin' sure to make a point of telling we're not involved in that E-NOW mess. If anyone acts up, ruffle your shackles and ask if they want to spend a night in a cold cell while waiting for interrogation." She put an emphasis on the last word just enough that the Notary knew that most Hivers would drop any intent on needless trouble.

He barked a salute, and quickly skittered off, seeing to his orders. As she turned her gaze into the alley, she noticed Nero and the Dustman standing in the vicinity. She reached up and lowered her shades slightly, eyeing the Dustman with an icy cool demeanour.

"I'm going to need someone to take a good look at our dead friend here once we strip the scene, and you might be that someone. Know, however that you're working under Harmonium jurisdiction here, and I call the shots. And this deader isn't going into your collection until we figure out what happened in full. We clear?"

Pushing the shades back up and not bothering to wait for an answer, she took a few strides towards Nero as she donned a pair of thin leather gloves.

"I had a feeling that you might turn up sooner than later. What've we got?"

[FANTASTIC!]

Nero turned from engaging one beautiful woman, only to engage another. "Good morning, Alathra."

He spent some time speaking in hushed tones with his Harmonium partner, relaying all the evidence currently at hand. He fingered the locket within his pocket, debating whether or not he should also reveal it - and potentially lose it to Hardhead impracticality.

Why not? He asked himself. Not like I haven't memorized it.

He produced the crime's only material clue and tossed it to Alathra.

"Recognize either of them?"

[If you want your character to recognize them, do it! They can be anyone, by any name. You canNOT wreck this!]
