The Harlequin smirked faintly as she gazed out across the crowd at the carnival, concealed in her hideaway by a combination of cover, skill and magic. Her eyes tracked her prey as he moved around the perimeter of the impromptu market, occasionally attempting to interview a passer-by but mostly taking the occasional note while looking around nervously.
Of course, he had every reason to be nervous. Mr. Juremales had made quite a spectacle of himself in the bazaar, and he had angered some very influential people. People with a reputation to think about, and enough jink to ensure that reputation was not overly tarnished. The pay wasn't exactly a king's ransom, but this wasn't exactly a difficult contract either. Still, a reputation for reliability was an important asset in the business...
She produced a small clockwork timepiece from her outfit and smiled faintly. It was almost time...
She threw off the grey cloak that had helped to camouflage her against the stones, rose to full height in her gaudy white and violet Harlequin's attire, put on a professional smile and produced a set of juggling balls before striding confidently into the busy plaza.
Buried deep inside her outfit was a special deck of cards. Perfectly ordinary in every way, apart from one. She'd mingle with the other entertainers at the carnival, hiding in plain sight through the whole affair. By the time the poison took effect, she'd be long gone, enjoying her dinner somewhere with lots of witnesses.
