It was again twilight; the moonless Sigil skyline grew dark with shadows and smoke. The city streetlamps and windows lit up like stars.

Everywhere, life was teeming, but with a different sort of mien to it. Risk and trepidation laid heavy on the air and every time she drew a breath in, the bittersweet taste of anxiety spilled in too. She wanted to gag; her stomach felt sick and her hands trembled as they grasped the gutter's edge. Fingers stung where they bit the concrete and already her knuckles grew feeble. As she clung to the edge of the rooftops just eight fingers away from certain death, a gruff voice bellowed down.

"Looks like this Tina's got herself caught in a tight spot." Whoever it was, his voice rumbled with a laugh, and she felt the sound of it drum like a war baton in her ears. He was moving closer. "Could make for a pretty cobble stain, or maybe a jinkswap on the slave parade..."

Closer, almost there...She looked up and watched as a boot fell heavily on the edge of sediment gutters. The leather toe shone a pretty sienna color, like a polished stone in a riverbed. She'd never seen such magnificent shoes on a roof-gypsy, but more importantly, good shoes meant sturdy material.

With a sudden inhale, the girl kicked her feet against the building and swung an arm up. She gained but an inch or two and the rough shingles grated her flesh painfully, but she managed to take hold of a booted ankle before her legs went slack again.
