The Order of the Planes Militant

Nicknames: The Brethren, The Faithful, The Children of Heaven

Headquarters: Celestia (Solania)

Alignment: LG

Traditional Faction Allies: Harmonium, Guvners (Cordial), Mercykillers (Grudging)

Traditional Faction Enemies: Doomguard, Athar, Bleak Cabal

Hierarchy:

-Prefect (Sectol - Current: Prefect Increase VII)
-Metropolitan (Spiritual Advisor - Current: Purity III), Keeper of the Seals (Arcane Advisor - Current: Indigo the Stutterer)
-Marshal (General)
-Housewarden (Monastery/Keep Administrator) - ((Not possible in Sigil currently, as it lacks a base of operations for the Order))
-Watchman/Watchwoman (Lieutenant)
-Crusader (Common Soldier)
-Lay-Brother/Lay-Sister (Namer)

Goals:

An old and venerable Sect with official backing from the Archons of Celestia, the Order of the Planes Militant has simple, but lofty goals: The Order seeks the promotion of Law and Good, and the eradication of Evil. To achieve these aims, the Brethren work to encourage and obtain willing converts to the cause of Law and Good outside of the Lower Planes, seek to thwart Lower Planar influence wherever it can be found, and wage direct war against fiendish strongholds whenever possible.

Membership:

The Order is open to any race and class, but a cutter has to be Lawful Good. Paladins are the most likely sods to feel at home in the Order, as it operates in a very similar fashion to many Prime paladin orders or brotherhoods.

Once someone signs up for the Order, they are subject to a two-week long observation period in which they are monitored by the local Watchman. If the subject is considered "good" enough by the Watchman, he may take an Oath of Fealty to the local Marshal. Once this has occurred, the subject is considered a Lay-Brother or Lay-Sister. From there, through good deeds and outstanding service to the Faithful, the person may be promoted to higher ranks. A great majority of Faithful remain Lay-Persons all their life, however.

Brethren are always able to seek succor from fellow Brethren. If another member of the Order appears in your doorstep, it is your duty to take him in, feed him, tend to his wounds and help him in any way possible. To turn away a fellow Faithful is dishonorable and evil, and to do so is an excellent way to be removed from the Order.

In return, the Order requests that all members swear oaths of fealty, chastity and poverty, similar to the oaths sworn by paladins. A member of the Order may never disobey a superior, no matter what. Unless the mission assigned to you is obviously evil or chaotic, you must complete it. In the event that an order is in someway evil, a Brethren must report this to his superior's superior. Also, a Faithful may only keep as much jink as he needs to maintain a moderate standard of living, as well as other necessities, such as a horse, armor, weaponry, etc. The rest should be donated to some worthy cause (although preferably to the Order).

RP Notes:

The key thing to bear in mind as a missionary/warrior of Law and Good in Sigil, is the Order's good relations with the Harmonium. A member of the Order isn't going to disrupt the Harmonium's peace trying to chase down anyone with wings or horns (especially as that wouldn't be giving everyone a fair shake), but they WOULD be scrupulous about reporting witnessed crimes or suspicious activities to the Harmonium, and assisting the Harmonium (so long as the actions undertaken aren't obviously evil/suspicious themselves) where requested or obviously necessary.

Order Dogma vis a vis Sigil
From: Watchwoman Ajora
To: Metropolitan Purity III

Your Eminence,

Having spent a small amount of time in the City of Doors, it seems to me prudent to promulgate advice for any Brethren who have been assigned to the 'Cage' as to reconciling the Order's beliefs and goals with the unique challenges presented by Sigil. Should the following meet with your approval, I would humbly suggest making the following articles available to Lay-Brethren and Crusaders prior to assignment.

On The Promotion of Law:

The Triad (Harmonium, Mercykillers, Fraternity of Order) enforce law and order as best they can in this city. Order members should remember that their duty here is not to usurp the responsibilities of these Factions. Order members would be well advised to assist any member of the above Factions, but also to report any instance of blatant corruption or unethical behavior to your superiors within the Order, that they might bring these troubles to the attention of Faction leadership in good faith.

On The Promotion of Good:

Evil and Chaos exist in this city with such brazenness that many Brethren might be justly shocked or outraged upon first arriving. Demons walk the streets openly, undead lounge on park benches, and some Baatezu might even wear Triad badges. Many mortals will even argue that these fiends are harmless or even Good. Be on guard for their treachery and steel yourself against the corruption that apathy can bring, but also remember these three things:

1) There is no measuring the power and allure of Good. Some fiends present in the Cage may indeed be seeking redemption, unwittingly or no, and all beings deserve a chance at serving Good (though this does not necessitate blind trust toward any fiend claiming to have seen the error of their ways).

2) There are strongholds in the Nine Hells and Abyss imprisoning countless paladins, celestials, and Good creatures unjustly captured or spirited away from their rightful afterlife. Sigil provides an ideal staging ground for assaults on such vile places. Focus on what you can do to help us establish a foothold here to bring our righteous fury to the Lower Planes, and don't let what you can't change in this city consume you.

3) Evil will try to goad you into rash action. They will prance before you, telling you of past crimes to get a reaction out of you. Do not ignore this, but rather take note of all they say. Report such screeds to your superiors, that they might be used to turn the Harmonium and any goodly people against them.

Befriend others, do good works, tend to the poor, lonely, and despairing, and you will be working toward the day when the Order has enough influence to expunge or convert the fiendish presence in this city.

On The Other Factions:

Most of Sigil's Factions have Good and Evil elements. While it would be prudent and wise for Brethren to remain suspicious of any professing allegiance to our traditional enemies, it would also benefit the Order to find allies among even these groups.

For example, the Bleak Cabal runs many charitable organizations within the City. Though many of their number spread despair and apathy, these few that promote charity and good deeds in spite of their incorrect belief in the pointless nature of the multiverse should be commended and encouraged.

Some Athar might also be swayed toward our cause with some effort. Consider the rejection by the Celestial Paragons of organized worship, citing its acceptance as a manifestation of Pride. Certain Athar might be persuaded to worship the notion of Celestial Good (as many Brethren have in the past and present) and focus their activities on denouncing the lies and tyranny of Evil Powers.

Other examples abound in most Factions (save perhaps the Chaosmen and Doomguard).

Marshal,

I have recently concluded a highly successful meeting with Factol Hashkar of the Fraternity of Order. He has affirmed the legality of constructing a Monastery surrounding the portal to Mercuria, provided proper licensing can be acquired. It was even suggested that, provided Harmonium assent can be obtained, the Monastery could be classified as an official embassy of the Sect, and be granted the right to garrison armed guards within the premises.

I have a meeting scheduled with a Factor of the Fated in order to address the acquisition of these permits so that all will be officially sanctioned when construction begins.

Marshal,

Factor Aiden of the Fated has signed off on the construction permits, establishment of the Monastery as an official Sect Embassy and, provided Harmonium and Mercykiller assent is granted, also pledges to sign off on a permit establishing our legal right to bear arms within the Monastery.

I was also able to negotiate our taxation status as that of a charity in spite of (or, as I argued, because of) our military operations outside of Sigil.

As a side note, I believe the Factor will be a valuable ally in curbing the unjust taxation practices of some of the Faction's more casual and thoughtless members.

Marshal,

Factol Sarin has agreed to permit armed Order guards to protect and defend the Monastery from any hostile actions, so long as they do not leave the Monastery bearing arms. All required permits and permissions are now in place for the construction of an Order Monastery here in the Cage. I will be sending along preliminary designs in due course.

For the time being, I have directed a substantial portion of our charitable giving toward the reconstruction of the Great Bazaar, following a devastating raid by the fey of the Winter Court. I have arranged matters so that this reconstruction will also benefit the destitute refugees which have flooded the poorer sections of the city in recent cycles from an undead-plagued Prime.

With some prodding from myself and other interested parties, the Harmonium may yet oversee the training of a new militia for the Bazaar, and in so doing, promote a more orderly coexistence between the Indep and Harmonium Factions.

We also have two prospective recruits, who will be inducted as Lay-Brothers and Sisters, pending a standard observational period. I shall add their names and signed oaths to the rolls when this has been completed.

At the service of the Mount, now and always,

Watchwoman Ajora.
