Sect: Kult of Thoon
Headquarters: Far Realms (Requires Nautiloid). Gatherings to be held in Under-Sigil Village for now.
Founder/Leader: Xaul Vohs

General Info (DC10 Lore to hear the chant): Xaul Vohs, can be seen around Sigil, bearing a simple green disc on his person. A DC28 lore check will reveal the disc to be the unholy symbol of Thoon. No one really knows what they're doing here. DC32 lore might reveal that Thoon's faithful are always in search of a rare substance called quintessence.

Group Goals: The Kult of Thoon's main purpose is to spread the word about the coming darkness, to show others, through force if necessary, that all will bend to the will of the Illithid in time, so better to bend now than break later. In time, all shall be broken and the stars will fade from the skies.

Harvesting quintessence, where it may be found... people, creatures, arcana...rocks... garbage... Then creating more constructs to harvest more quintessence for more constructs...for more quintessence.

Gathering Quintessence, Fanatacism, Abduction & Slavery, Spreading the word of Thoon, increasing Illithid Power & Control. Either constructing or acquiring an Illithid Spelljammer (Nautilus) to take kultists to the far realms and beyond to search for quintessence or hear the word of Thoon and create more converts.

Kultists of thoon are dedicated in their task to bring the Illithid empire to its former glory.

(Some RP PvP may become a thing, Creating & Selling constructs, gathering and stockpiling essences, Suppression & conversion of other illithids, abduction, slavery, spelljammer adventures)

Alignment: Kultists alignment must be within one step of Neutral-Evil (Thoon's alignment)

RP Hooks (ideas on getting involved): Illithids and Illithid sympathizers (Ones who agree with the Illithid's idea of the grand scheme) are welcome to join the 'kult'. By initiation rites, all previous beliefs must be forgone to make way for the word of Thoon. (Thoon is now your deity) Initiates who refuse to convert are restrained and subject to ritual feeding on sight, as part of the rite.

Examples.
* You're an Illithid who is no longer influenced by your collective's elder-brain, and are subject to Thoon's will.
* You have visited the far-realms and returned alive, driven seemingly mad to others, but Thoon's voice resonates reason within you.
* You are an Illithid sympathizer or researcher, you are willing to help the illithid in your lust for knowledge concerning them, whatever it takes. Even catching their prey.
* You are a priest of Thoon, and are surprised to find Illithid/Thoon's presence already in Sigil, you willingly join to aid the cause.
* You are a criminal looking for a way to disturb the peace
* You are a faction member of Sigil, seeking a way to gain a strategic advantage by utilizing Illithid intelligence.
* You have been enthralled by an Illithid and act under their direct orders.
* You are a victim of the kult. (Post below to be involved, wandering in the wrong place at the wrong time or are possibly a great source of quintessence, most dangerously)

Sect Ranking:

Illithids always hold the highest rank within the kult, all others defer to them out of fear, obsession to serve, or are thralls. The rankings are more ways of identifying who is involved in what tasks.

We are currently seeking more members!

High-Kultist of Thoon/Prophet: none (act as leaders)
Nautilus Pilot & Crew: none (Pilots Nautiloid Spelljammer)

Deity Information. Sourced from here.

THOON
All
Deity of constructs and quintessence
Alignment: Neutral evil
Domains: Artifice, Evil, Madness, Void, War
Subdomains: Blood, Construct, Dark Tapestry, Insanity, Toil
Favored Weapon: Heavy flail

Mind flayers are known to cross the vast gulfs of the Dark Tapestry in their nautiloid ships, and it was on one such excursion through interstellar space that a fleet of illithids on a mission of exploration came in contact with the unspeakable force they named Thoon. These illithids returned (or were sent back) warped in mind and body, fanatically devoted to the worship of Thoon, which they described alternately as either a god or philosophy. When questioned, they answer only that “Thoon is Thoon, and Thoon is all.” Thoon’s priests claim to receive mental instructions from this mysterious force, but whether Thoon truly speaks to them or they are simply mad, few can say. The fact that Thoon’s clerics receive power from this alien source, however, is not in doubt.

Using their strange visions and mental instructions, the mind flayers of Thoon animate horrific constructs and travel the planets and planes in search of a substance they call quintessence, a life-giving energy radiated by a rare few living beings. Not all creatures of the same race contain quintessence, but the illithidsÂ’ constructs are designed to sense it within them. Once detected and secured, the quintessence is extracted, killing the victim and preventing it from returning from the dead with any spell less than true resurrection. The quintessence, distilled into a glowing green fluid, is then used to power more Thoon constructs.

The mind flayers of Thoon terrify other illithids, who see the Thoon flayers as heretics against Ilsensine and fear the spread of their alien philosophy. The illithids of Thoon seek to spread their faith by the sword, destroying the elder brains of other illithid communities and subverting its tadpoles, and the sight of heavily-armored clerics of Thoon sends an illithid community into an uproar as they scramble to destroy the interlopers.

The true nature of Thoon is unknown. The few human scholars who know of it guess that it may be a heretofore unknown Outer God, akin to Azathoth and Nyarlathotep, but this is only crude supposition. Its unholy symbol is a simple green metallic disc.

Post below, IC interactions to become a part of the kult. Feel free to send me a message on the forums regarding involvement, or chat me up in game. :)

Also, I am always looking for ways to improve ideas and implementation, feel free to drop ooc suggestions and comments as well! Thank-you.

I also wish to corroborate with any EMs/DMs who are willing to use the kult as a plot device. e.g. pitting two groups of characters against one another for a similar goal, but different purposes.

*He moves, dream like through the worlds of portals, he crosses the many voids. The Name is in the rythm and the pulse, in his blood, his thoughts, the conciousness that runs through every fiber of his body. Thoon drives him on, Thoon reveals the city of doors, the axis and place of access where the old world, the new world may be reseeded. Seeded again for the first, the last, the infinite times.

This is a knowing, a constant dream in the chest, in the fingertip, at the end of tentacle and foot. Mekletajs, Seeker, is the name that rides the mind, the mind that rides the body, encased in full plate, shielded and armed, looking for one with the name of spiders.*

Xaul's unholy symbol began to hum softly, seeming to resonate the Far-God's name. Another key, unlocking the endless doors to lead the seeker towards its destination.

The axis of gateways opens to bear another once more, placing him in the crux of activity, Sigil's Bazaar.... where Mekletajs would see Xaul, calmly enjoying a drink.

*There is a presence moving through the city. It does not project, does not intrude, for those who know the sense of things, the play of minds, it is more of an invitation. Still, it has a mass in the psychic realms, and while it does not reach out, it causes ripples like the mass of a ship displacing the waters of a lake.

For those who can tap into such things, it seems to be nothing more than a tangled stream of mantras. The words shift and change, the languages merge, and each word seems to come from another language, another dialect. It is the rhythm of the threads that show their twisting, each of these rhythms acting as a member of chorus for the weaving, all with a powerful pulse beneath.

To a subtle mind, to a powerful psionic mind, these words take on textures, take on color, sensation, meaning. The chants begin to look like waves, waves on multiple planes, if you focus more clearly these weaves begin to form layers of tissue, the image of a heart, muscle expanding, contracting, these waves of mantra overlapping.

This is not projection, the disbursement is there, and if you focus your mind, if you follow the words in and see the shifting mass, you may pay enough attention to notice the spider scurrying across the image of the beating heart, the texture of mantra waves pulsing.

If you follow that spider, if you recognise it as an invitation in, not out, not meeting you, but inviting you in. If something inside you rises with excitement, almost recognising the pulsing sensation, if something within sends that recognition out like a thief’s signal to the layer’s door keeper, then you will follow the image of the spider as it descends into the tissue of the heart, into the shifting waves of the mantra, going deeper and deeper until it falls through into a giant vacuum, all reality pushed back as a great void opens, and in the maddening fall you hear the pulse for what it is, another mantra, “Thoon, Thoon, Thoon!”

For those whose image name is that of “spider,” for those who knew themselves as the image, for Xaul, he would see in the ever receding interior of the heart great scenes of dream and madness, distant empires stretched across time and space, he would see wars and madder things. And when you find yourself in the center of this void, those images rushing away too fast to see, you’ll hear armored hand clank against a chair of Kazeet’s bar. The chair across from you. There standing before you is an Illithid dressed in a breast plate, large shield slung across his back, morning star at his side and eyes staring at you.*

“My name is Mekletajs,” he says vocally, his voice rather sure, steady and deep for an Illithid. “I saw you in a dream, the spider scurrying. I sought you. I found you," and with that he bows his head.

*The whole time, the steady beat continues inside your head, “Thoon, Thoon, Thoon.”*

*Xaul rests his hand upon the simple metal disc, in comfort. The green metal, now resting silently as if its call had been answered, or perhaps its greeting from beyond all things to be now delivered. His head raises up to meet the new corporeal presence, seeming to expect him. The dreams had all started to blur the lines of reality. Khazeet's bar, now seemed to be crawling with millions varying spiders, washing over everything and everyone present, like a temporary flood, as the psionic powers manifested in response to the coming of the Seeker. Xaul welcomes Mekletajs with but a few words as Thoon's presence flows through the Seeker's thoughts.*

"The call from beyond is answered. The dreaming key is lined in silver. This Spider must weave his web."

Xaul leads Mekletajs away towards the Under-Sigil Village, and directs them into an derelict house to discuss matters away from the many eyes and ears up above...
