Missives are distributed to many of the Namers that Factotum Maelfina has recruited, or else to those interested, calling them together to collaborate on a group project. The idea is simple, the execution significantly less so: To use the basic template of rats, and from it create a new organism fully capable of reproduction and self-sustenance.

Her charges are each given a crate full of rats and encouraged to try whatever they think will work to achieve the desired results, giving regular and thorough reports back to Mael as their work progresses. In the end, she hopes to combine the efforts of all involved together with her own work to achieve something truly unique.

First in the interests of Progressing the faction interests and secondly in progressing his own status and providance within the Faction, Augustus Cillarus begins work on his shipment of Rats musing on how to best create a difference in their pattern.

If Augustus learned anything in military school, start small, think big. He Seperated the males from the females untill a stimilation could be attained for the art of mating between the two groups and waited untill they were appropriately riled.
When they were ready to reproduce, he then had several segregated pens forged for each productive family of rats, aiming to inspire the family survivability of each of the rodents.

What would be required next, was a little more tricky, the concept was to create a rat species that could think with the values of a family rather than a pack in mind. It was a difficult process but it required several factors including and not limited to: Selective breeding, careful nurturing and influences that could help progress that nurturing.

Aware that his own spellcasting has its limits, he knew bardic magic was powerful, but in no way the kind of magic he needed to influence the rats. He then sort to advertise any spellcaster willing to conduct a small experiment a small donation of five hundred jink in return for their arcane services.

- If one is found:
Augustus will then instruct the Spellcaster to create a special feed that will subliminally alter the minds of the rodents to think with family values. He would hope this feed would ingest its way into their reproductive system, so that when the creatures were capable of breeding, they would spread this gene to future generations of rodent.

- If one is not found:
Augustus decided to attend to alchemy for the same purpose, promising a potent amount of regular income for a month if a potent Alchemist could provide him a powerful aphrodesic stimulant aswell as a mental inhibiter, aiming to replicate the same potential the rats could achieve.

Small steps, big plans.

He decided either route would be efficent, if one failed, he would simply try another, if both failed, he would go back to the drawing board.

Progress makes perfect, even if it has to go back a few steps to keep moving forwards.

Namer Ta'Kan clearly stated she'd refuse to do such things without a proper explanation.

Mael's own experiments begin a bit differently from those of her colleagues. While the namers are given garden-variety rats to work from, Mael begins with slightly...different subjects.

Group A: 40 Anarchic (Manual of the Planes) Rats captured in the gate-town of Xaos.

Group B: 40 Ash Rats (MM II) imported from the City of Brass.

Each rat is kept in a separate cage, made from metals mined by Asgardian Dwarves and thus infused with a mild background aura of chaotic and good essences.

Group A is given their usual diet, though their water is spiked with small amounts of Azzagrat Blue Wine, noted as a powerful aphrodisiac and enhancer of the senses.

Group B is fed a steady diet of burning animals and plants, mixed with aphrodisiacs capable of being disseminated into the air by the flame.

After being kept under these conditions for enough time to maximize the effects of their respective diets and environment, rats from Group A are individually paired up with rats from Group B of the opposite sex, and their cages are connected to allow for interaction.

Half of those pairings that successfully mate, are immediately separated after the act is completed, while the other half are thereafter kept penned together.

Those pairings that end in violence and one rat devouring the other are monitored, and the surviving rat observed for changes in growth or behavior as a result of the consumption.

After some measure of selective breeding Nagu'Yogtu appears to have used a plane where time passed faster to pass the generation time faster. 10 years of breeding in a day and he has seperated his rats into natural variants and selectively bred his rats to be:

1: A dominant cast of Large cannibalistic rats possesing higher intelligence and cognitive thought. These rats appear capable of complex tasks and are able to even put communication into basic scratched runic language.

2. A loyal obedient worker cast of rats, omnivores, who seem to worship the bigger rats and provide food for them when they can , these rats are possessing of hunter gatherer qualities and benefit from their loyalty to their intelligence of their fat rat masters. They opress and control the lower cast of rats and exploit them.

3. A degenerate and devolved cast of vegetarian scavenger rats that are small and very fast breeding, relying on their high generation turn over and accelerated breeding to survive. They are hunted by the middle cast rats and fed to the fat rats quite often. These lower cast rats are hairless, awkwardly build with strangly large and bulky yet useless muscle groups that make them slow and vulnerable but good food.

Another day passes and ten more years of breeding and it has all gone wrong.

The dominant cast got greedy, the middle cast revolted. The lower cast ran out of food and ate the fat rats, the middle cast bred with the lower cast and produced a large and muscular fast breeding race of brutal ratkin that appear to be the rat equivelent of orcs.

They now outconsume what is in their enviroment before going to war with other groups and reducing their numbers. This selection process increasingly produces more and more brutal, stupid, barbaric and stronger generations that live only for war.

Nagu'Yogtu gives to the rats a weapon beyond their responsibility to use responsibly and a day (10 years) later finds the species thankfully extinct.

Namer Kala's works where quite different. She asked her fellow factioners if she could observe their rats during their researches and experiments, if they accepted, she observed quietly and took notes and also asked for one specimen of each at during the different parts of the processes.

Each time she brought the rats in her lab and used her rangers abilities to actually talk to them, in order to analyse their sentient abilities. Then she observed how each species behaved in the foundry environment and how they would interact with each other on individual level.

((posting here for doomguard sakadu spying and eventually messing at the foundry and with godsmen's project. if here is no good, i'll move this to doomguard board. put here 'cause i guessed is more handy for godsmen's players to read))
rats rats rats!

if possible sakadu goes to the foundry sneakily hoping to check who's involved in the project, what they're doing, where rats and tests are hold, how they're supplied, by who, and maybe spot some safe discreet access to whatever sensitive locations, and eventually some person (npc , more likely) that might appear good to be bribed to make things easier for her (for istance to keep her informed on the developements, or do some minor tasks. if she finds any she would disguise, maybe as cornugon...maybe as someting else. anyway such attempt would be used as last resort, if spying gives nothing)

Each of the workstations is magically and physically secured from unauthorized entry, and even her underlings are not particularly aware of where precisely these rats are coming from.

Believers of the Source, while polite, are generally not in the habit of chatting about official projects with random people wandering in from the streets. She might learn of the individuals involved through careful bribes, but more than that is unknown to the casual Namers.
