1st Market of Tithing, 136Ha

Tavia entered the Hall of Information, the Fated building relocated to the Great Bazaar of the Market Ward. The business concerning the strange portal was getting more heated and even more intriguing to the elf. There's a current theory that this portal was one of four 'Blinks' tied to the ancient history of Sigil, and she was out to prove it is or not.

... or something more troubling.

The elf approached the front desk with a cheerful smile. One hand held near her coinpurse, already expecting to pay a processing fee and, most likely, a garnish for expediting the process.

"Hi there! I'm looking information concerning portals. The ones called 'The Blinks' specifically. Can you tell me where to find that?"

For a very generous garnish, Tavia was permitted to view a few records and books in the Fated collection on the Blinks.
The Blinks

Four thousand eight hundred and seventy three years before the ascension of Hashkar as factol of the Fraternity of Order, Aoskar was slain. The details of this story are covered elsewhere; suffice to say he was a god of portals, and the Lady didn't like his influence in her city much.

Right after his death, four portals disappeared. Not that they were the best known of portals, but the Fraternity duly noted their absence.

Five hundred years later, the portals returned for a period of two months. They continue to to return every five hundred years. Over the years, their keys have been forgotten (or were never known), so very few have been through the portals since Aoskar's death. Even fewer have returned from the other side.

One cutter brave enough to venture into the Blinks was the dwarf Fargullen. He went in to the Lower Ward Blink in the year -3873 Ha, and wasn't seen again until the portals reopened five hundred years later. According to most accounts, he was quite mad when he re-emerged, spouting prophecies and gibberish, and was promptly flayed (or fed to the Wyrm; accounts vary).

A thousand years later, two mysterious beings who called themselves Zarulaz and Lathuraz appeared through the Blink known as the "Fourth Door." Lathuraz proceeded to rampage through the planes for the next five hundred years, dominating those he referred to as "lesser beings" across the entire multiverse, and taking Sigil as his base of operations.

Zarulaz attempted to stop Lathuraz's actions, but Lathuraz evaded him over the course of the next few centuries. When the Blinks next appeared. Zarulaz banished Lathuraz beyond one Blink, and was banished behind another portal himself.

Since then, several scholars have attempted to study the Blinks and catalogue their keys, with little luck. The next appearance of the Blinks is expected in the year 273 Ha.
The Prophecies of Fargullen

The sayings of the dwarf Fargullen, who traveled through the Blinks and back again. Folk say he was either flayed or fed to the Wyrm for his mad rantings, so there's some doubt that this book is even legal.

The time of the Four Doors! These are the doors that are gone but always here, present but rarely accessible, the doors to the unknown places.

Who knows the dark of these doors? Who has the power to open them? Only one blood knows these doors. Only one blood can open them! On the day that blood opens the Four Doors, the multiverse will shake and shudder, the Cage will be unlocked, and the Lady will cry out in anguish and pain!

One door for relics, forgotten and discarded. A second door for powers, set aside and lost. A third door for mysteries, waiting to be freed. A fourth door for reality, to tie them together and reveal the path to tomorrow’s better shores.
For further inquiries, the clerk simply shrugged. Perhaps the Fraternity knew more? They prided themselves on portal cataloging after all. The Heartless liked to think of themselves as more. . . personal. . . in their search for knowledge.

The elf perused the two volumes with a look of recognition. Fargullen's Prophecies, The Blinks, they're both books planewalkers have been finding and turning in as of late. Still, she thought, it's a good thing these are publicly available. She slipped the books back into the shelves. After inquiring with the clerk if there was more, Tavia smiled and offered a polite bow before dismissing herself.

She knew the Blinks were being catalogued by the Fraternity, at least. They must have -some- sort of records about them, more than what's being found in the public space. With her course set, she left the Hall of Information and made way for the Lady's Ward, heading for the Courthouse.
