Garen had hired an architect to draw up a blueprint for the main level of his house in the Clerks Ward. It had been decided that the main level of his home would be converted into a usable office and clinic. He had been splitting his time between his judicial duties, his private law firm and his private medical practice. It was beginning to become overwhelming to scatter his time between all three placesÂ… so he had decided to reduce it to two.

Much of his house was unused as it was. While he owned a fairly spacious home, he only used about 25 percent of it for himself. The rest was left empty. It was a good opportunity to use it all. The main floor would consist of a private office for his work as a professional lawyer. The other 75 percent of the level would be for his surgical room and recovery. Most of his clients, on both sides, were wealthy members of the city so it would be easy to serve them both in the same place.

Once the blueprints were completed, he would have to finalize a cost and retain permits.

The clerks would receive, with their regular daily permit assignments, the following requests;

A permit request to renovate and modify an existing dwelling in the clerks ward from a single dwelling to a dwelling over a commercial enterprise (Legal and medical)

A permit to operate a law firm (both singular and with partners) within said dwelling

A permit to operate a surgical clinic (with employees) within said dwelling

Included would also be requests for all taxation and licensing requests for the above.

They would be requested by A3 Seph, Civil judge, but not authorized by him.

There is little to be gained, other than future headaches, by authorizing all your own work, yourself.

Although she rarely bothered with the day to day work of authorising permits and licenses since her promotion but when she saw who was applying she took an interest.

Please see the enclosed  building permits and licenses to practice law and medicine.

Whilst I appreciate you have an extensive knowledge of the law protocol demands I remind you that your position as a Civil Judge prevents you personally from representing clients in court personally limiting you to an advisory role.  Furthermore The Ad Hoc Bureau of Courts must be made aware of any case you personally or you as a firm give consultation on, as well as any case that your firm chooses to represent at the first possible opportunity so as to avoid a conflict of interest.

On a personal note I would like to wish you every success in your venture.

As to your concerns, Caterina, I am fully aware of my judicial limitations within the confines of Sigil and her legal territories as Judge and Advisor. It may come as some surprise but many of my clients are Mercantile and Prime in origin and I offer representation on their respective Prime worlds, amongst other locations, as required. Many of the judicial systems they are forced to operate under during trade and negotiations have limited knowledge of planar design. My expertise in these matters is quite valuable to many of these individuals and organizations. It is, perhaps, something you might be interested in as a means to step out of the robes and engage in lively argument as a lawyer from time to time.

Perhaps once I have officially established my practice, you could visit from time to timeÂ… away from the grey offices of the courts.
