Crake posts a notice in the lobby of the courts, and leaves a copy with the front desk for their convenience, explaining to them to please send anyone who comes in needing to speak with him about the matter of the class action lawsuit he is organizing to his office, told to make themselves comfortable, and to help themselves to refreshments and please wait patiently for him to arrive. He stocks his office with a big plate of fresh pastries and pitchers of honeyed milk, and hires caterers to keep it stocked. He asks that he be sent for immediately if anyone arrives, and prioritizes getting back to the office to help them in the event he is sent for. He also leaves a set of forms for them to fill out that amount to a questionaire aimed at establishing a written testimony of their abuse as tenants at the hands of the negligent guild of landlords and their landlord himself. The questionaire specifically asks to describe the unsatisfactory conditions of their leased property, their efforts to get the situation corrected, the details of any interactions with the guild of landlords, and anything else the clients might think is pertinent to the case. There is the place for clients to sign the form at the bottom, and he asks that the aides provide these forms to anyone who comes in and to have them please fill out the forms while they wait for him to arrive.

The notice reads:

ARE YOU A TENANT OF THE LOWER WARD TENEMENTS OWNED BY RAUL HEFLER? PLEASE SPEAK WITH THE AIDES AT THE FRONT DESK FOR THE APPROPRIATE FORMS AND DIRECTIONS TO THE OFFICE OF ADMINISTRATOR A10 CRAKE, BUREAU OF COURTS

A few days after Crake made his initial visit to the Lower Ward tenement, a Saul and Gwendoline Non show up at the City Courts, asking for Administrator Crake. They duly fill out the forms (with some help from the aides), have a pastry, and Saul states that he's willing to testify that he was attacked by a man with a tattoo'ed face after complaining about the atrocious conditions in the tenement.

*Crake asks Saul about the others who were roughed up at the incident in the lower ward bar where his arm was broken. He gets names and addresses if possible, and asks Saul and Gwen to please ask the other human and the tief who were attacked with him to visit his office. He also encourages them to spread word amongst the other tenants of the Hefler tenements to please visit his office as well in order to participate in the lawsuit against the guild of landlords. Finally Crake asks them to sign a written testimony he has prepared on their behalf detailing the squalid conditions of their leased property and the negligence of the guild of landlords in holding Hefler accountable. He tells them that he is going to tell the Harmonium that he suspects the tenements' occupants could be under duress as a result of his efforts to obtain justice for them, and request that a guard be posted there in case of further foul play.*

Gwen and Saul say that they've already talked to the friends Gwen mentioned before (the ones who were forced to move away after their rent was raised). Said family might come by themselves to offer testimony. Saul is reluctant to give addresses out, and both of them seem quite nervous at the suggestion that a Harmonium might be sent to guard their home.

Saul does, however, sign written testimony after its been explained to him.

*Crake thanks them. He tells them to let him know if he needs anything, and says that if the Harmonium are a problem for them somehow to please let him know and he'll do what he can. They're there to protect them, not to cause them any harm.* "I grew up in the Hive Ward," he reminds them, "I understand how you might feel. But they're the best insurance I can offer to insulate you from further like broken arms and such--I will absolutely not tolerate you being further abused in this matter." He thanks them and tells them to give his regards to young Tina and her brother.
