Crake comes into the Barracks with all of the proper forms filled out to file his lawsuit against a Fey cutter called Daelen. The young guvner aide hands the neatly stacked documents to the notary at the front desk, and explains that another copy is filed with the Fraternity of Order. The documents state that Daelen obtained the services of an Erinyes called Klo in order to, as the contract between the fey and devil stated explicitly, "rough him up and give him the message that he was a loudmouth and had pissed off the wrong people." The complaint states that the Erinyes managed to break no laws in completing the contract due to Daelen's encouraging her to interpret the contract creatively, and Crake suffered only a gentle consentual poke on the shoulder and agreed that he had received Daelen's messsage. Nevertheless, the complaint states that Crake feels it is his duty to the order and the city to report and pursue litigation of the crime in order to prevent further incidents and set the precedent that he will not let crimes go unreported and unchallenged. The report also states that Daelen threatened Crake publicly the cycle prior to his encounter with the Erinyes Klo, stating that he would find and slay Crake amongst the planes and that his clan would "have its vengeance." It also claims that Crake had stated after the threat his intent to let the matter drop, and suggested that Daelen did so as well. He sites Factor Dace Andor of the Mercykillers as witness to the threat, and Klo the Erinyes as witness to the contract to "rough him up." Lastly, he adds his unsolicited opinion that he believes threats and illicit violent plots against factioneers in the cage "ought not to go unpunished."
